Quote:

I think weed is trashy IMO.
I find any kind've overendulgence in an illicit substance pretty trashy...but yeah it does seem like you're specifically targeting those that use weed as a preferred substance - not all of them are as you've described, in fact, these sound like the kind of people normal recreational weed users probably wouldn't want around either.
If you've used your own experience to dictate how you behave and conduct yourself, that's all good, but making statements like you just have is kind of like saying that every person that drinks habitually is a lowlife, drink driving, irresponsible piece of shit - I don't drink too much myself, but I know enough to acknowledge that there's a line that some cross, and some do not.

Quote:

Just like drinking or any other substance, it's about doing it responsibly, not cutting it off entirely.
Absolutely...it's those that don't, that give a relatively harmless substance a worse name, by misrepresenting themselves like that.
Everything can become a gateway drug, but you make the path that leads up to it, or away from it.
Just a matter of moderation, if you can do these things while maintaining some kind of productivity in life, and you're not hurting yourself or any around you, then it's all good...if you can't, then you shouldn't.

LOLZ

oohhh so defensive. Get mad at me because I do not approve of an illegal substance that may not be as destructive as others, but still a drug nonetheless. I still see it as a problem more so than a rad recreation or means of leisure. Weed may not be as dirty or dangerous as other drugs but still leads people down that path of exploration.
Q:"omg are you saying that all people that smoke weed are going to do other drugs!?"
A:No but it CAN lead people down that path. What do you do when your area is dry and there is no weed? hmm...Find something else maybe?
Did I say that people that smoke weed are trashy? Though a lot of people I know are... No, I said that IMO the drug itself, I find trashy.

I have a question for all of you Marijuana advocates:

Why did you start smoking it? And why not find use of another legal substance that has the same effects? Is it that awesome to break the law and get pissed when people don't see it as being right? OMG that makes me such a biased asshole right? Because I am not seeing the perks of breaking the law and having a "good time" on a daily basis? haha this is funny.

oh btw

Spallalala- alcohol is legal and you cannot deny that weed stinks like ass. Or maybe you are used to the stench? How do you think people get busted for it 90% of the time? The smell? Red eyes? Tiredness?

amc420vt- It is still an illegal drug which I find indefinitely repulsive. I didn't say that everyone that does it is.

becky.horror- I'm uneducated because I think weed is gross? I don't care wtf people do to deal with their problems and you didn't need to write me a mini novel about why people do drugs. I really don't care why they do it.

woodoo why the hell are we arguing about pot?

Phalanx 12-22-2008 11:53 PM

I don't really want to try and make the situation worse, but I'll say what I've got to, and nb: I'll try not to come across as condescending or insulting about it...

Quote:

Get mad at me because I do not approve of an illegal substance that may not be as destructive as others, but still a drug nonetheless.
I don't think anyone's really mad at you...I've seen you called biased a few times, I've seen some people come in and say that from a first person perspective they disagree with you, and I've seen some people say that you seem to be going largely off what you've personally experienced through friends...again, I don't think anyone's mad at you...that said, it's a natural response to disagree with someone who is saying things that are incorrect when you know it's not factual, or if there's a different perspective, you will hear it, no?
Re - the legal issue, in all honesty it's not really a leg to stand on, I've been down this path too many times to again...just to make a short point - the reasons it's classed as illegal are pretty stupid if you look into them, and furthermore comparative repercussions of this substance vs others, always shine favourably.
That I use it doesn't mean I don't respect the law...in all other cases I do just that, only cannot get behind this particular prohibition.

Quote:

Did I say that people that smoke weed are trashy? Though a lot of people I know are... No, I said that IMO the drug itself, I find trashy.
That's kind of like saying "the glass is trashy" "the chair is trashy", no? Because without the interaction of people, that's all it is, an inanimate object...it's not like it's fluro green or wearing flares...?
So, look I get that you might not have said that directly, but I'm sure you can see why people might've at very least assumed it was a reference towards them.

Quote:

I still see it as a problem more so than a rad recreation or means of leisure. Weed may not be as dirty or dangerous as other drugs but still leads people down that path of exploration.
Again, two things that are legal are far bigger "gateway" drugs in my experience...I mean, again I'm falling back to the "weed vs" thing, but I think in this particular point is where it stands to the most reason.
Shit, drinking a soda is a gateway drug - people that call weed that, just don't like weed, or cannot moderate themselves hence judging everyone by their own experiences.

Quote:

No but it CAN lead people down that path. What do you do when your area is dry and there is no weed? hmm...Find something else maybe?
This again sounds like a "your friends" thing.
My answer is, I go without until next time...I'm not into substance substitution, in fact most folks I know that have had weed aside from a few fuckwits, are pretty much against taking it any further than that.

Quote:

alcohol is legal and you cannot deny that weed stinks like ass. Or maybe you are used to the stench? How do you think people get busted for it 90% of the time? The smell? Red eyes? Tiredness?
Alcohol is legal, where weed is not on account of some (again should you care to look into it) pretty silly reasons.
The smell, well we vapourise so that's largely eradicated. It stinks if you're mixing with tobacco (most do, we don't), or if you're a lazy shit that has dirty bongs and pipes lying allover the place, multiple people using your place as a weed joint, again, all something that's within the control of the user to handle.
Burning weed, smells...but I can't personally say that a pure green joint burning is that bad a smell at all, hell I prefer it waaay more than the smell of someone lighting up a taylor made cigarette anywhere near me.
Getting busted - have never been.
Red eyes, manageable.
Tiredness, over indulgence.
People that get stupid, get busted...those ones that you're not drawing a line between themselves and people like myself...the "problem" smokers, the people that do it all day, the people that make it their life, hang in groups and think it's a good idea to hang sbout smoking with multiple people to the point it's completely obvious. People that do nothing but talk about weed.
Again, these people, are like our "alcoholics". There is a difference.

Quote:

I'm uneducated because I think weed is gross? I don't care wtf people do to deal with their problems and you didn't need to write me a mini novel about why people do drugs. I really don't care why they do it.
Yeah, I'd have not really went with "uneducated" as you at least know partially what you're talking about - but you are very biased, which borders more on general ignorance. Not trying to be insulting there, but your experience is just that. Yours.

Quote:

Why did you start smoking it? And why not find use of another legal substance that has the same effects?
I started as a teen, getting high with friends...it was there, and I didn't perceive it as too dangerous, as it turned out that was correct in my case. Never really did it "all the time" never really got into it.
I'm a more regular user now.
Why?
It relaxes me, it gives me great healthier sleep (and no, I don't oversleep), in times past it's stimulated my creativity greatly and I've come up with some very good recipes and ideas while under the influence...this is of course as it does change your perception and the way you see things a little.
Also, I find it can actually help you focus on various tasks too.

Why not find a legal equivalent?
So the closest most people will see, ignoring suggestions of some kind've chemical substitute, would be alcohol.
I've been arrested and have had multiple problems with this substance in the past...has made me do/consider way many more stupid things than weed ever has, that could be just me, but from my outside "perspective" on drinkers I sincerely doubt it's only me, and doubt that "me on alcohol" was anything other than the tip of the iceberg for this.
Besides, I don't really think anything I've tried DOES have the same effect...it's a mellow effect which is not overwhelming - I can't say this in the case of most other things I've ever encountered.

Anyways, not going for argument, just providing information you've missed - If you're going to come back at me with nothing but attitude, don't. I haven't attacked you and expect the same.

haha you crack me up..but so do most ignorant people.

Anyway I think cheebs has said what has needed to be said.

I don't wanna argue about weed just give a reality check when needed.

hacelikewhoa 12-23-2008 12:28 AM

I just love that I'm "ignorant" because I do not like or approve of weed. That's really smart. Weed must be the new jesus. If I'm athiest will you call me ignorant? Or uneducated? Oh my gosh I'm so horrible and dumb because I don't like to get high. I'm done here. Tried to voice my opinion and every body tried to jump on me for it.
Phalanx, I appreciate you trying to debate rather than insult.
Weed must be the new pro life vs pro choice battle or something.
I just didn't know that many people felt so strongly that weed was a good thing. It's really not that big of a deal to bicker so much about.
This case is closed.

because women are inherently fun to look at, glasses are hot, and when a woman is into geeky shit they are almost always into other weird stuff, which can only be good for whatever man is with them.

Guy nerds are just dirty socially inept retards who (in some cases) think they are better than others because they know the Thac0 of a red dragon in the 2nd Edition monstrous compendium.

For the record, i dont. And my wife is hot. Even in her glasses.

Weed smells like body odor... some sweet putrid smell that makes me look around wondering if the person who just stumbled in with bleary red eyes just smoked a bowl or forgot their speed stick.

.

i always found the classic guy nerds to be bitter ... mean spirited .. like the world owes them something.

that being said - i never picked on them ... as a matter of fact i ostricized myself from the 'cool kids' in highschool for refusing to bully one in my class... made sure he wasnt bullied by them too.

didnt like him - but i hate pack mentality

SO TRUE. I always liked the concept of them, but I dated two very very angry and bitter ones in my past. I was very disappointed.

And they said I needed medical attention! ;)

ferretchucker 12-23-2008 12:57 PM

Even though she said the case is closed, I've been watching this argument and feel I want to put my opinion across.

Firstly, Hace, they're not calling you ignorant for not liking weed or smoking it, that's your choice and they couldn't care less. It's the way you are not open to all of the facts and you haven't even thought about the other side of the argument.

As for me, I haven't had much to do with weed, but I do know a few things that apply to me.

Pro

- I prefer the smell to tobacco smoke or a drunk guys breath.
- It does bad things to people sometimes, but as stated, the two main legal ones tend to do worse. All of the drunk drivers, the domestic violence caused by alcohol.
- I know way more people who are addicted to legal tobacco cigarettes. Think of all of the deaths caused by them.

Cons

-The law is the law, no matter how silly it may be sometimes. And each law should apply to all, otherwise it shouldn't be a law. By this, I mean, if they enforce it on one person, it should happen to all others who break it. That's why they should choose the laws carefully. I'd rather have weed legal and tobacco not, but at the moment, that isn't the case, and so the current law should be followed.
- Putting any smoke into your body isn't exactly healthy, and weed has some nasty side effects.
- It can lead to other bad drugs.
- It isn't cheap, and addiction can, in extreme cases, lead to people resorting to other means.

becky.horror 12-23-2008 04:12 PM

Ahh and the weed debate continues!
Will it ever end?
Noboby Knows.
Either way im going to have a spliff and watch Untraceable now; some killing game on the internet film, seen it before but cant remember it . . . . probably because im a lazy smoker!!:)

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooo...

Just spoke to the Shrink, initiating part 1 of my New Year's Resolution Plan (change meds to aid weight loss). He took me off Cymbalta and has transferred me over to Welbutrin.

And I am having maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaajor withdraaaaaaaaaaaaaaawal.

suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

Today is Day 3 off it and I'm getting bouts of mania and nausea. Dizziness.

It's AWESOME.

Kids: Don't take meds lightly.

NOTE: Chrono is just weary and COMPLAINING. Do NOT take this as an opportunity to lecture against meds. Not what I need right now at all. Withdrawal was expected and anticipated, but still sucky.

Double your dose for the first week.

At least that's what I did with my Zoloft withdrawals. It was GREAT!

bwind22 01-09-2009 04:19 PM

I'm anti synthetic drugs but all for the natural ones. (So ditch your Ritalin and get some shrooms, kiddies.)

Just pot, beer and tobacco for me.

NICE

Out of curiosity, how long did it take to get out of your system? I was TOTALLY useless at work today. :(

I am trying to combat it with some wine. Mmmmmmmm.

hammerfan 01-10-2009 04:10 AM

Lipitor for high cholesterol - tried changing the diet first, didn't work
Aleve for the occasional arthritis pain
Ambien for the occasional sleepless night due to menopause

My goal this year is to eliminate ALL processed foods from my diet. The doc has told me in the past to do this. It's very difficult when you're as busy as I am and don't have time to cook a "real" dinner. Heart disease is rampant in my mother's family. I also need to quit smoking and lose weight.

mikeyjay88 01-10-2009 11:15 AM

Im on caffeine. About 600mgs of it a day :D

Dante'sInferno 01-10-2009 01:38 PM

So I've been reading up on Cymbalta withdrawal (mainly perusing forums and reading posts where people describe their experiences). I think that someone actually described what's getting to me the most pretty well:

Quote:

"zaps"--a sort of audio hallucination, not sure what to call this strange symptom that feels like short electrical pulses, and an internal "sound" like a nanosecond buzz.
For me it's not as audible as it is like a pulse of dizziness that completely snaps me away from whatever it is I'm doing/thinking/etc.

It's actually kinda comforting to read someone going through or has gone through the same thing... I feel crazy trying to describe to someone that sometimes when I blink or move my eyes rapidly I get this pulse... It's subtle but jarring when it happens often enough in the day.

Also dizziness, headaches, alternating hunger and nausea, and sensitivity to light... Awesome. For some people it took up to a week or so to get it completely of of their system.

This sucks.

Even though I do not regret going off of Cymbalta in the slightest, I REALLY wish that my doctor had warned me of what withdrawal would be like and how long it would take for the drug to get the HELL out of my system. I woke up this morning and was just... dismayed that the symptoms were still here. I fell asleep last night assuming that they'd be better when I get up. No such luck.

I am now completing Day 4.

On a positive note: The side effects of the Welbutrin started to kick in this morning: horniness. And the boyfriend was at work. Well, sometimes a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do... :D

scissorhands 01-10-2009 09:28 PM

I take Lexapro for depression/anxiety and Seroquel to help me sleep.

I don't know the THACO of a red dragon in any edition, I know what THACO means... in my circle that would be damning enough. I know many other things that would be considered geeky though...

I call all the characters from X-men by their first names naturally and almost exclusively.

I can probably indentify any Buffy episode by name from the first 6 seasons by name with less then 30 seconds footage.

I *used* to be able to name every single Angel from Evangelion in order of appearance from Sachiel right through to the 13th.

Of course I don't think I am better then anyone due to that, just making a point that I would most likely would be considered a nerd in most situations.

As guys, those sort of interests are seldom of shared by the opposite sex, which means that male nerds are then percieved as less attractive vs Female because hell who WOULDN'T want a girl interested in fantasy, Sci-Fi, comics and Video Games and what not they are a smaller section of a male dominated demographic.

That is yes, females are just easier on the eyes :P

Also...

I've noticed that, I think it's a sense of resentment that romantically their intellect carries very little weight. I can relate to this in part, though I certainly wouldn't dwell on it. Some of these guys feel gipped, like no one can see what they have to offer because their interests are intellectual or creatively based and feel like if they just played football they'd get more attention.

Which really is just bullshit.

The fact is most of them are weak. They don't have the sense of self and strength of character ti just get on with it, to liek what they like and ignore any jaded feelings beacuase that hasn't made them the centre of attention but rather has made them an outcast.

Like I said in the beginning, most people would say I am a nerd... though I did play football (rugby) in high school... mainly to get ass, but that I don't believe has anything much to do with any attentions that I got rather that I am a bold aggressiveness kind of guy with confidance. Many of these steroeotypical "nerds" refuse to face that and brood instead.

I would weigh in on the "Weed" discussion, but must parties seem happy to let it be, and I think thats a good metaphor to leave it on. I didn't think anyone was specifically ignorant just intolerant of the fact that it's impossible to make judgements based on other peoples expierences. Each to their own providing they aren't hurting themselves or others eh?

Re: Chrono, doesn't sound like a barrel of proverbial monkeys there mate. I do hope they ease up for your soon. Though I doubt you or your boyfriend will complain if those new side effects continue along :p

I'm not "on" anything really. I sue things for entertainment and recreation when the occaison calls, I've probably used most things out there at one time or another. Also medical proffessionals have deemed that I'd be happier taking Zoloft... which as far as I can tell just makes it harder to concentrate so I brood less about shit ;)

A Titan watch for office and outdoors, never at home.

1 silver ring, in third finger of right hand, holding a golden sapphire.

Weak ligaments of both knees...remnants of a severe accident 9 years back. Stopped all sporting activities of mine from back then, except light running and doing the treadmill. Cannot jump or put too much pressure on them.

Shall we say, ^5s?
