Just watched To Kill a Mockingbird. Still a great, great film. Anyone who's into classic filmmaking, check this out.

Backwoods
Really excellent thriller about 2 couples vacationing in the North Basque country in Spain who get caught up in a bad scene. Gary Oldman helps a lot. Fearnet is also featuring John Carpenter films this month: The Eyes of Laura Mars Ghosts of Mars Escape From New York Prince of Darkness and one other... |
Days of Darkness
Crazy bizarre zombie no budget wacked out indie flick. Story is all over the place, the acting's not the best, special effects are not special, but there's enough off the wall strangeness to this film to make it so bad it's good. Usually I hate this kind of thing. This time it won me over. Give it a look. |

... I just watched Saibogujiman kwenchana (I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK) - Sundance Channel On Demand http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...t-thats-ok.jpg It's the new movie from Korean director Chan-wook Park, acclaimed director of Oldboy and the Vengeance Trilogy. I started a thread about this in the Asian Movie forum, but for a bit of background: The story is about a young woman who is convinced that she is a cyborg and as such is committed to a sanatorium where she refuses to eat (because, as a cyborg, food would "break her"). She meets a young schizophrenic who falls in love with her and does all he can to make her eat. As expected, the direction was clean, beautiful, whimsical... Park is definitely an experimental and playful director and a visionary. However, it was definitely slow at times and the ending was a bit drawn out (an issue that I find with a lot of Asian cinema, Oldboy and The Red Shoes included). The high points: Very much like Lady Vengeance, Park creates vivid characters who make this movie colorful. It's playful and charming, though purposefully muted which took away from its absurdity at times. What it boils down to is a quixotic love story that is absolutely adorable and ultimately awww worthy. In a way, it's almost like Happiness of the Katakuris (minus the darkness) meets Amalie. That being said, I'm happy that directors like Park are out there, always experimenting and giving the audience something different. Definitely check this movie out, though I thought it was a bit more flat than I expected it to be (giving the plot, story, and characters). |
Well, I tried to watch this and another Sundance On Demand film tonight- only Comcast seems to have lost the channel. It took 20 minutes on hold for a CSR to tell me this.
Chrono- see if you can find Sundance On Demand. Okay, Sundance Channel On Demand is back- but not the PPV offerings! |
I'm a Cyborg is everything Chrono says. A wonderful film.
I find a kindship with other films that deal with madness, like King of Hearts, Marat/Sade & They Might Be Giants. Really enjoyed this. |

I agree about Oldman; he was brilliant and it was great to see him do something indie. Good little movie. |
Really? I didn't care for it at all. I mean it was well made....Oldman was great as always, but I felt the ending was really poorly handled.
Also, I think I had the wrong idea of what kind of movie it was going to be. I thought around the middle of the movie that it was going to be a werewolf flick (complete with mysterious girl chained up, paranoid locals, and noticing the bright moon)...so imagine my disappointment to find it was nothing of the sort. Can't say the performances were bad, they weren't...but the story just did nothing for me. |
Dance of the Dead
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...anceotdead.jpg Currently on Fearnet, this is one of Ghosthouse Underground's indie flicks (and the only one that I've seen so far). It's definitely a decent homage to zombie flicks, using high school and prom as fodder for the zombie apocalypse. It drags at times, but overall thoroughly enjoyable. Definitely check it out. Hey - It's free. |
Intensity Part 1 & Intensity Part 2.
Two part TV movie adapted from the same Dean Koontz book that High Tension took as its source. It's very apparently a TV movie, with the same lack of style you find in most, and the same range of TV actors. John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox from Scrubs) stars as the killer. The story is told in a straightforward manner, with none of the mind games & tricks that High Tension used, but also not nearly the level of brutality, violence, tension or gore. As High Tension only adapted the first half of the book, it's interesting to see what else was in the book. Also worth a look if you're a McGinley fan. Other than that, only mildly interesting. |

Oh, awesome- I'll watch that tonight!

Free Movies>By Category>Action Coffy & Foxy Brown 2 cheesey exploitation films from the 70s that put Pam Grier on the map! Revenge of the Gladiator & Revolt of the Slaves 2 amazingly bad epics from the early 60s. Also a couple other Italian Hercules/Gladiator movies |
Do they screen these in widescreen? Nowhere is quite hard to come by in that format the R4 DVD I've got is one of the few releases of it in WS.
|
I watched Nowhere some time ago, and I believe it was full screen.
Some films are shown wide screen, and some are full screen. |
What'd you think of Nowhere?. I've always liked that one but prefer The Doom Generation.
The Living End and Mysterious Skin are both solid films too. |
Loved it- blew me away when I saw it. Made me want to go get some acid.

Memories of Murder (2003)
Korean horror film directed by Joon-ho Bong. Never heard of this guy before but I'm REALLY glad I watched this. Not your typical Asian horror movie at all. No tall women with long hair. No creepy kids with big eyes. No ghosts. This is the story surrounding the investigation of Korea's first serial killer case. I don't know where to start here... Perhaps by mentioning the directorial finesse of Joon-ho Bong. He straddles a line between a very dark humor and deadpan seriousness with the assurance of a master. Expert at creating tension and surprise. At first we're presented with the world's worst criminal investigative team. They trample evidence. They arrest the wrong people and torture confessions out of them. They plant evidence. When a detective from Seoul joins them on the case, they are jealous of his more sophisticated methods and try and discredit him. There's a real visual flair to this film as well, along with some stunning visual metaphores. Many key scenes take place in the rain at night and they're shot with perfection. The lead actor, Kang-ho Song, turns in such a nuanced performance I was awed. He portrayed his role, at first that of a bumbling corrupt cop, that transforms into a very sympathetic caring character. It was probably the best performance I've seen in an Asian movie (what ones I've seen, of course). The story itself moves along at a brisk pace, always kept me interested, and revealed some deft touches, symbolism and depth. Needless to say- I was extremely impressed. I saw it too years ago and I'm totally agree with NE. It's an excellent film that may help to change your views regarding modern Asian films in a great way. A Korean masterpiece. |
Gui si (Silk)
Solid little Chinese ghost movie. Good suspense, decent character piece, and the ghosts are nicely done. Not a perfect movie, but definitely worth a looksee. It definitely surprised me how much I enjoyed it. 3.5/5 Free Movies > By Category > Independent |

Movies > Just In Up http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e-poster-2.jpg Up was amazing! It was funny without being pandering. It was tear-jerking without being manipulative. And it was absolutely STUNNING without a flaw. Easily one of my Top 3 Films of 2009, Up has a little for everyone... From cartoonish antics that made me giggle to whimsical fantasies that made me smile and sigh, to genuine characters who made me cry... It's been a while since I've felt so sad/happy/inspired by a single film, and Up did just that. It's fun, adventurous, and absolutely charming. HIGHLY recommend it. 5/5. |
