Well couldn't someone change it right back then?

And FYI, imdb.com agrees with me.

The genre for Seven is listed as Thriller, Drama, Mystery, Crime.
The genre for Silence of the Lambs is listed as Thriller, Horror, Crime.
The genre for The Sixth Sense is listed as Drama, Mystery, Thriller.

Hmm strange...I thought "Seven" and "Silence.." were serial killers movies and "The Sixth Sense" a ghost movie :)

ClassicHorror 03-29-2005 04:46 AM

Sixth Sense is horror.

urgeok 03-29-2005 06:21 AM

i never thought Se7en or Silence were horror movies ... especially Se7en.

6th sense was a ghost story ... to me anything supernatural goes in the horror bucket.

Are you sure about that?

I guess you think 'Ghost' is a horror movie too then...

technically - yeah ..

horrible, but thats where i would put it if i was filing it away.
and the garbage pail was nowhere to be found.

i have Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein in my horror section ..

Okay your opinion on genre classification officially means nothing to me now. ;) Ghost IS NOT horror, it's a love story!

Ghost Dad?
Casper the Friendly Ghost?
Beetle Juice?
Bringing Out the Dead?
The Christmas Carol?
Field of Dreams?
Ghostbusters?

Those are all horror movies simply because they contain a ghost?

I think not.

glad to know you werent actually planning your life around me ..

i know they arent horror per say ...
its just how i do it for sake of ease ...

rather than draw the line somewhere .. like Dead Alive .. its a comedy but most people would put it in horror ...
A lot of horror b movies are intentionally campy (therefore comedies) but they still get filed under horror ..

to be perfectly honest - this is already way more thought than i actually ever gave it ..

besides, you dont like Phantasm .. what the hell do you know about anything anyway :p

bwind22 03-29-2005 11:36 AM

I certainly agree with the fact that the majority of movies out there do cross genres. I just don't think a ghost in it makes it automatic horror.

*Shakes head at the Phantasm comment.*

Not only did I not like it, I hated it! I didn't really like anything about it (Except the orbs. they were cool.) and then the worst part is that I was hoping the sequels would be campier, so I watched them all and they weren't! They sucked too! Myabe it's the combination of the lame ass hero (Reggie) and the super crappy villain.

well i'm not going to defend it - i loved it from the 1st time i saw it .. it remains my favorite all time horror ..

I know plenty of people who hate it ... doesn't bother me a bit ..

oh, i even have the scale model die cast Cuda :) hahahaaha

knife_fight 03-29-2005 11:48 AM

I agree that Reggie is lame, but I'm kinda down with the Tall Man (in a psychotic preacher, Poltergeist kind of way). but I'm not a bit Phantasm fan regardless... just b/c it's old doesn't make it a classic.

also, I can't believe this thread has lasted this long. anyone taken a look at the first post in awhile? I think "crazy raplh" has a real Cinderella success story on his hands.

urgeok 03-29-2005 11:55 AM

reggie is the shit !! hahahahah

I think Reggie is the coolest guy ever.

The only thing i could think of that could be any better - is a Reggie-Ash teamup :D

crazy raplh 03-29-2005 02:15 PM

reggie the reckless?

Genre listing for Shaun of the Dead:
Quote:

Genre: Comedy / Horror (more)
If Shaun of the Dead is horror, Se7en is horror

bwind22 03-29-2005 10:38 PM

Shaun of the Dead is a horror/comedy. That's dead on.

Seven and Silence are debatable because there's certainly elements of horror in both, but they both also have more of a psychological cops and robbers thriller feel to them too. I'd call them both Police/Horror/Dramas but that's just me. Definately not straight horror.

crazy raplh 03-30-2005 07:10 AM

motel hell is one of my favorites:

The mutalator
Sleepaway camp 2

These are not a ghost movies...they just have a ghost in it....
When a comedy has a knife in it...it dont make it a slasher movie...

Hey, read the whole conversation before trying to tell me I'm wrong. urge was saying that because there was a Ghost in Ghost, he considered it a horror movie. I was saying, "Oh, I suppose you consider these all horror too because they have ghosts in them."

I never said they were 'ghosts' movies, I was just using them as examples of movies with ghosts.

You just came in and basically tried to correct what I was saying without understanding that what I was saying was essentially what you were trying to tell me I should be saying.

urgeok 03-30-2005 08:39 AM

kind of been beaten to death anyway ...
its like trying to figure out genres at a music store - the stuff that gets placed under 'punk' is shameful.

i just do it for sake of ease so i dont have to think about it ..

ghosts, dead guys of any sort ... i stick under horror for sake of ease ..

i have 8000 movies to look through so i want to be able to find shit without thinking to hard about it .. so its whatever makes sense to me.

if i was running a video store i'd have a huge section called 'DUMB SHIT' that would be 99% of the movies in the store.

thne there would be once small section called "GOOD SHIT"

chrisbarnesfan1 03-30-2005 12:20 PM

1.Exorcist
2. Haloween
3.Pet Sematary
4.The Shining
5.Audition
6.Psycho
7.Texas Chainsaw Massacre
8.Poltergeist

Seems logical to me. Whatever works for ya.

The STE 03-30-2005 04:34 PM

And honestly, there are much harder movies to classify than Se7en. Like The Prophecy. Not horror, not action, not comedic, but it's not really a drama, either. Same with Pulp Fiction. I classified it as Action in my collection by virtue of the fact that it fit in that category more than the others

kung-fu-jesus 03-30-2005 06:38 PM

god damn get over the fucking genera classification, it dosnt fucking matter.

90 precent of the population thinks se7en, SotL are horror, and as for the 6th sense i actualy thought it was crap and its most certinaly not horror and i dont know anyone( in person) who thinks it is.

For me, horror movies are those which leave our psyche with real scary moments. These are my top 10 of all time in reverse order :-

10. Body Snatchers

09. A Nightmare on Elm Street

08. The Ring

07. The Exorcist

06. Evil Dead

05. Se7en

04. Friday the 13th II

03. Alien

02. The Shining

01. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Honourable shoutouts to the following :-

Creepers

The Silence of the Lambs

Psycho

Resident Evil

Hellraiser

Jaws

House on Haunted Hill

crazy raplh 04-01-2005 04:45 PM

nice picture

massacre man 04-01-2005 04:54 PM

you put the Ring and Resident Evil in there but not Halloween

_____V_____ 04-01-2005 11:35 PM

Halloween omission

Well I saw Halloween much later than Friday the 13th and Nightmare and I found the series similar to both of em...

Halloween Resurrection was a good one but not good enuff to make it to my top 10...anyway I ll give a shoutout to that one...

but somehow Michael Myers wasnt as scary as Jason Voorhees...for me Jason kicks serious butt as my all time favorite...
