You keep saying you like well made horror movies yet you say that The Shining is boring and you almost fell asleep watching it,you also say that you found Halloween to be mediocre and you've got a problem with Texas Chainsaw Massacre because it says massacre in the title and it doesn't really have a massacre taking place and you go on to bashing Night of the Living Dead.
You sit here glorifing monsters and to me it looks like all you really like is monster movies which i have no problem with, the thing that's getting on my nerves is that you're constantly trashing all these classic films and saying that everybody here is just going along with i guess what you would call the popular vote of what great horror films are without seeing alot of them but everybody here for the most part has seen their fair share of horror films if you go to urge's gallery i'm not 100% sure but he has pics of the films he has and i don't know the exact number but it's ALOT. I myself have a good number of horror films and i've seen to many to remember and if you go through the old threads you'll find one that alot of people posted their horror collection for the most part everybody that did post had a shitload of movies. Everybody that likes the films that you're repeatedly trashing doesn't just like them because they haven't seen anything else and they're just going along with the crowd it's because they're great horror films. The Exorcist and Halloween are on almost everybody's list because they're great films that were very well made. |
some crapy movies
Darker Side of Terror, Nightmare at Noon, Night Flowers Sister Sister, Cries In The Night, The Todd Killings http://D:\bilde-film.jpg |
There were zombie films before Romero came along and did Night of the Living Dead. There were Sci-Fi movies before Lucas came along. There were slasher films before Carpenter came along. The thing you're failing to realize is that i think it was Omen who said it a few posts back, Halloween set the standard for slasher films as did Night of the Living Dead and Star Wars did for their respective genres I know there was vampire and frankenstein films before '31 but who cares those are the standard it doesn't matter who started the genre with what film it doesn't mean they're the best just because they're the first. You keep saying Devil's Castle is the best horror film because it was the first, unlike Citizen Kane (which is called the best film ever very often because it was the first non silent film) devil's castle wasn't all that great C.K. on the other hand was a really well made film. You're entitled to your opinion just like everyone else but everytime somebody mentions a film that they think is great it would be nice if you don't throw all your this was made before that and i thought it was boring because of this and that bullshit at it. When you came on here and imidiately started praising Godzilla we for the most part respected your opinion and didn't start running down a bunch of shit that you probably wouldn't want to hear about how boring and generic Godzilla really is, so why don't you just chill sometime and let people have their opinion without hearing all that shit about devil's castle and how just about every classic horror film is either stupid or boring.

Hi Austin I think you misunderstood me the reason I say the Devils Castle is the best Horror movies is because if it had not been made there wouldnt be any horror movies at all. It is because it was made that it inspired other horror movies to be made thus creating a new movie genre the horror movie genre. I know darn well the Devils Castle is not the best made horror movie everyone knows that. But it is the movie that started the genre. How many movies can say they were the ones that inspired a movie genre to be made? If you want to know what I think is the best giant monster movie here is my answer it is Midnight Episode made in 1899. The reason its the best is the same reason the Devils Castle is the best horror movie. Midnight Episode was the 1st giant monster movie thus inspiring other movie makers to make other giant monster movies even better made movies like KingKong in 1933 or Godzilla in 1954 etc. I dont think the 1931 Frankenstien movie is the best Frankenstien movie but I do think Thomas Edisons 1910 Frankenstien movie is the best Frankenstien movie because it inspied a 2nd Frankenstien movie to be madein 1915 and a 3rd in 1931 etc. If you ask me which is my fave Frankenstien movie the 1931 karloff movie wil be one of my top 3 faves. Alot of fans like Werewolf movies I love em most like Lon Chaney Jr in the Wolfman but the best is the1st Werewolf movie made in 1913 because it was the 1st The Wolfman was made in 1941. My fave is the Howling 1981. Get my point. You have to know the diffrence between the best and a favorate. There is 1 bestand lots of faves. If you have read my posts about Godzilla I am ure you noticed i dont like all the Godzilla movies i like only the good ones. When I talk about movies I have seen I am giving my feeling on how I felt about the movie. I know there are fans of Romero I am not one of them because I am not impressed by his movies but some do like him I never said his movies sucked I just said how i felt about them. If someone were to say hey Godzilla vs. Megalon sucks i would agree with them 100% I would also say Godzillas Revenge sucks 100%. Because its true. If someone says Marry Shelleys Frankenstien movie in 1994 is better than karloff in 1931 I will agree because it is. I dont put what people say down I say things that are true maybe some here are way to sensitive. I like Vincent Price but I dont like all his movies but some are better than others.

Nightmare at Noon is a great movie. For the life of me I can't understand why anyone likes Suspiria on the other hand. I think it's one of those things where people feel like they have to say they like it because they think it makes them sound smart. |
See Gojira. Just like the universe you don't know that FOR SURE.
How do you know. You don't. You keep saying the same thing over and over again. I think what Austin is trying to say is: That was 109 years ago. There is a big possibility more like 100 percent that somebody would have made one. How do you know someone made a movie that inspired that guy to make one....just the movie got lost or somethin so they have no record of it. And I know for a fact that no body has ever said yes he inspired me to make a horror movie. See before you get all holy about how it was the first movie and there WOULDN'T be any horor movie becuase of sit back and think.....thats retarded. Somebody would have had the idea. |
Hi Nemesis I am sure if you were to ask the guys who made Halloween or Friday the 13th what inspired them to make those movies. Maybe they would say Frankenstien. And if you were to ask James Whale what inspired him to make his 1931 Frankenstien movie he might say either Life without a soul the 2nd Frankenstien movie in 1915 or the 1st Frankenstien movie of 1910 by Thomas Edison. My point being horror movie makers have always been inspired by the movies that were made before. But all horror movies stem from 1 single horror movie which was the 1st horror movie. Thats not an opionion thats a fact same goes for scfi movies or action movies etc. If some guy were to ask what was the best airplane ever made he would probley say the one that the Writebrothers flew. He would be right. There are awesome planes today some can go mach 7 but those planes wouldnt even exist had the write brothers never built or flew their plane. Think about it the same goes with horror movies. Nemesis if you really want to know what Horror movies will be made in the next few years try this look at the horror movies that were made 5 or 8 years ago then imagine if those movie were updated . Thats what horror movies will be like 5 years from now. Just keep this in mind if it werent for old horror movies there wouldnt be new horror movies. You might want to try this look at all the movie monsters in the last 109 years and see which of them are still around and which arnt then ask why some are still around. Because the ones that are are the ones movie goers like and they dont suck they rule.

Good Evening Gojira.
Of course you can say that James Whale was inspired by the other two movies OR he could have been inspired by the book Frankenstein which, books have spawned movies. Same with Steven King, you can't honetly think horror movies alone made him the way he is. Devil's castle is NOT the reason horror movies are what they are. People have visions of horrible thing, which they want to express. Saying Devil's Castle was the reason for horror movies....is in all due respect: Utter Bullshit. |
Wel its been 109 years since Melies made Devils Castle....well most people who go to Film School know who he is. He's made over 1,000 films. Horror, Scifi, and everything else.
The first non silent film was The Jazz Singer. The first film of all time was The Lumiere Brothers The Sprinkler Sprinkled (1895). The Devils Castle is only 2 minutes by the way. But it was a good movie, it sounds good, but not the best. There were alot influenced by Melies, but alot weren't. James Whale's Frankenstein isn't a remake by the way, its an adaption of the book and its way better then the 90's version. Georges Melies made The Devils Laboratory which was a better film then Devils Castle. Also Cabby's Nightmare was better then Devils Castle, I really don't think we should argue about a film that no one still alive in the world has seen. |
Ok Nemesis name me 3 guys who had the idea of making a horror movie back in 1896. I only know of 1 guy who had the idea of making a horror movie back in 1896 and he not only had the idea but he made the movie. And thats not BS.

Once again you're being irrational by saying that if it weren't for the wright brothers there wouldn't be any planes that's even worse than saying that there wouldn't be any horror movies without the devil's castle because people have had the idea of flying since God knows when and to say that if the wright brothers wouldn't have made that one paticular peice of crap airplane then there wouldn't be any at all is also irrational. |
Exactly.
I mean someone I am POSITIVE would have had the idea. Just because HE had the idea doen't mean someone else wouldn't of. |
As far as him being the onlyone in 1896 to have an idea for horror.
That is not relevent. I am talking about the fact that anybody could have had an idea at ANY year. Not the late 1800's. |
My favorite horror film is Hellraiser.
What I think the greatest horror film is: Night of The Living Dead. Its a perfect movie. |
