These days "Original, new or compelling" is virtually impossible.
I have descibed Dog Soldiers to people as "Aliens with werewolves, set in Scotland". That is basically it. it is simple, and because of it, it is beautiful. The fact that someone decided to take an ancient "horror" like werewolves and modernise them in this way IS original, the same way Reign Of Fire turned the old Dragon legends into a modern threat. Now, i can see people turning this pseudo-genre into a shit-museum the way they did with "giant killer animals" with Anaconda, curse of the komodo, python, etc.. but it is still new enough to be somewhat "original" Plus, i LOVE listening to foul-mouthed brits and scots going off. They invented the language, so they use it ina way most of us americans couldnt dream.... "I would rather slog it out with these 'grunts' than take orders from a toffee nosed twat like you, Ryan.." Classic line :) |
Few things......
1) Dog Soldiers is a fuckin good movie 2) Werewolves usually means a horror movie 3) You can mix genres for example Dog soldiers is definately a comedy horror. But more imprtantly........ 4) The most annoying thing Americans do is confuse the words English and British. BRITAIN IS NOT A COUNTRY - it is made up of a number of different countries. Please learn the difference. Scottish people ARE ALSO BRITISH I'm sure some americans/canadians would be offended if people assumed they were from canada/america. Rant over......bye. P x |
