There was a pretty high amount of gore, even for a modern horror film. Of course, I tend to avoid watching movies in the torture category. I would probably rate the film an A-, due to the excessive gore.

I wasn't too much but it was satisfying for what I expected in an updated version of the original. And if you want to know it wasn't much -I put it in invisible ink below :

Bruce Campbell appears and he says "Groovy!" lol so just a nod from the og actor himself

I need to rewatch the original Evil Dead... I mean, I've seen Evil Dead 2 many times, and it's definitely one of my absolute favorite horror pieces, but I have only see the original Evil Dead once, and, to be honest, wasn't really a fan, so I don't remember most of it.

My fiance had to remind me that this movie was a remake/reimagining of Evil Dead, not Evil Dead 2, which I think changed my perspective a bit.

Rambling aside, I really enjoyed the movie. I think I need to watch it again, to be honest, it shocked me - It really did. I thought that the gore was definitely well-done, and so were the scares - It eeked me out so much that I have more of a vivid memory of my reaction to the film instead of the film itself (which is an accomplishment).

I share the same qualms that have been referenced earlier - I didn't really get Mia's coming back from the Dead - I thought that it was a feint and was a little disappointed when it wasn't - Or maybe my bigger issue was that I thought the moments between her and her brother were too cheesy/touchy-feely; the emotion didn't really seem to match up with the gore and violence of the rest of the film. However, the finace observed that at the end of the first Evil Dead movie, there is a question as to whether or not the events actually happened or if Ash is crazy and killed all of his friends (interesting reading of the film that I had completely missed)... of course, it doesn't really fit here considering the many different POV's outside of Mia, but still it's an interesting thought.

Another qualm I had was that it was a little bit of the movie that wouldn't end - I was worried that the never ending ending would ruin it... But luckily the final showdown was significantly badass that it wrapped it up nicely.

I was really impressed by the gore, to be honest - I think that the movie actually could have been NC-17 - I find it thrilling to see such disturbing events in the general cinema as opposed to me tracking it down online or on Netflix.

Interesting article about (more than one?) alternate endings, both of which I'd love to see on the DVD.

Personally, I have heard that a lot of people loved Evil Dead II, but I have to say I do not agree. It was pretty good, but the first film, to me, was much better. I thought everything about the original was really good. I liked the horror elements of the original. The comedy in Evil Dead II was pretty good, but the film just did not click with me. Subsequently, I have seen the original many times, but the sequel only once. I was very happy that the remake returned to Evil Dead's roots of horror. Ultimately, I thought Evil Dead II was a pretty good movie, although a bit overrated (in my opinion), but The Evil Dead was vastly superior.
