Okay, let's see........a giallo film is usually more of a mystery film than a slasher film. it contains the violence, blood, and nudity of a slasher film but it is very much whodunit? There is almost always the focus on the gloved hand, holding a weapon, and you are supposed to try to fit the pieces together; slasher films you either know who the murderer is, or it doesn't seem to matter who the murderer is.......;) I didn't think to add any here when I was listing favorite slasher films, but I do think they aren't all that different as far as content. People do get slashed (to borrow The Mothman's line).....:p

so giallo is more columbo and slasher is just 'heres the bad guy, watch him kill these people'

Prom Night is dreadfully boring....or is that just me? ;)
Oh well, my point was, not that slashers never have an element of mystery, just that a slasher film doesn't always have that element, unlike a giallo film (at least in the ones I have seen). In slasher films, it seems like any mystery involved is usually secondary to the death scenes, the violence. The question for me is often "who is going to die next?" with most slasher films, rather than "who is behind the mask?".
