To anybody who has never seen "Carinval Of Souls" and your going to your local video store to rent it, do yourself a favor and avoid a so called "remake" of the film. It had Larry Miller and was produced by Wes Craven(!) It is truly, truly awful. Stick with the original black and white classic

I didn't really like the movie that much.

No, me neither.

Just got it home from Ebay.

First of all i didnīt find it creepy/spooky/scary at all. Okay the first time you see the powder faced man in the window of the car you get surprised. But after that minor shock itīs just the same happening in the entire movie and the male ghost dosenīt get scarier after the first time you see him. And i frankly thought that the lead actress was pretty bad. Especially the scene where she is being hysterical in the "doctors" office. Watch her face.... Yikes!:(

Candice Hilgoss is a great actress, and this will always be one of my favorites.

What always struck me as somewhat interesting, yet oddly annoying, in Carnival of Souls was the incessant organ music. Like the movie, too artsy for its own good.

Some call the flic surrealist, and as experiments go, it ain't bad. Worth watching once, I suppose. "Is there death after life?" was one of the taglines of the film when it was released. And I suppose we're meant to go "hmmmmm" and "aaaaahhhhh" upon consideration of the disjointed narrative and visual cues that let us know we're somewhere between reality and limbo. But mixing the cerebral and the visceral should be done carefully. And Souls falls short.

About Carnvial of Souls, screenwriter John Clifford said he wanted "the look of a Bergman and the feel of a Cocteau." For the budget, I think they came close. But if you're looking for a scare, look elsewhere.

I do know this much after watching Souls. Utah in the early sixties looks like one scary place.

its not a remake ...in any way shape or form.

incredibly chilling performance from Larry Miller - normally a comedian ..

I haven't seen the film, but couldn't resist Googling on it. Sure enough, appears to be an attempt at a remake. See http://www.moria.co.nz/horror/carnival98.htm or http://www.theonionavclub.com/review.php?review_id=162. Wes Craven's name is attached to the project.
