I think it meant was that deinonychus was not a member of the velociraptor family.

they are related, in much the same way humans chimps and gorillas are related. raptors arent deinonychus, and deinonychus arent velociraptors, but they are both dromaeosaurs.

Yeh what I meant was though they have a connection, the velociraptors in the film and book are actually deinonychus because deinonychus were called velociraptors by some scientists, because they thought they were a type of velociraptor, and though both are dromaeosaurus, like you said, deinonychus are not a type of velociraptor. I got it slightly wrong but I knew what I meant, and you pretty much worded it exactly how I should have done.

exactly, the deinonychus is consistent in size with the the raptors in the movies, the real raptors were apprently the size of a turkey, which is a lot less scary.

but raptor sounds cooler. "deiny" would sound stupid.

very true. I suppose one could say that due to the cloning process used in the movie, the raptors may have mutated.:confused:
