Creep, Wrong turn, Slither, event horizon, Uzumaki, 28D/WL...all relatively recent...and those are just off the top of my head, I enjoyed them all.
Yes, horror has had it's "time" it seems...but then, that could well apply to pretty much all genres, no? Nothing REALLY gets considered all that groundbreaking.
The Host and the number 23 also look great.., and I've heard FEAST is the shit, too, so, it's not "dead".

You want more? Check out some horror comics, they've really come up in the last few years...it's not only films that encompass the entire genre...

i agree. if i see one more "horror" flick with bad writing, and even worse acting, just because the dumb girl will show her rack, i am going to scream.

I think you're talking about the entire 80's, most of the 70's...

they are just lazy. it costs the same to remake as it does to make and you save yourself the hastle of having to be creative. say what you like about hostel, at least it tried to be different. if you are sick of hollywood look into world cinema.

In this case, dont look at the weakest link, look at the stronger ones.

And alot of people tend to only judge horror on gore content. How about those wonderful psychological horrors that actually make you think and then blow your mind with an unpredicted twist.

"Skeleton Key"
"The Others"
"Sixth Sense"

I know there are more, but cant think now!

And, having got into asian horror in the last couple of months, I am finding many of them dont use alot of gore, just leaving things to the imagination but written in such a psychologically twisting way - with camera angles and lingering, silent moments that just make you squirm.

good horror is down to the individual's opinion. I unlike a few like h20, I was never much of an evil dead fan and I think jason X was a good film but just ruined by the fact it was jason, maybe if it were a new character with nothing to do with jason it would be better.

I agree. And in my opinion, I think some of these people need to get slapped around a little!

Real quick, on the subject of new ideas, take a look at The Departed. An original idea? No. A great movie anyway? Yep...
