I sooooo sooooo have no interest in this remake. The original was one of those basically perfect big horror flicks. I bet it's basically one of those "holy crap I shouldn't have spent the ten bucks" type movies. I know I sound cynical, but as many people have pointed out, remakes have become an actual problem lately. What bothers me the most about this rash of remakes is the rather offensive implication to today's (read: "younger") audiences that the newer films update and replace the original flicks ("Look, we have MTV cutting and modern effects! That makes us cooler, just 'cuz!"). This effectively makes the new audience ignore the original films as if they never existed.

I haven't seen the film, so technically this is a rant, criticizing the trend and not the film, but it seems appropriate.

i think the origional Omen is one of the most perfect horror films ever made.

i havent seen the remake but i'll probably check it out to see how a new cast does with the origional script.

my film reviewer friend said that if you havent seen the origional, then its probably worth a look.
If you have seen the origional then there isnt much point.

he did say it was compitently made though.

I don't think anyone's said that the original isn't as good as the remake. I thought original was much better.

What we are saying is that it was a fun little modernization to a classic.

The thing that annoys me is that people compare things to the "original", what is that? They compare the war of the worlds with the "original", when in fact it was based on a book by orson wells. If they do a film about a book, they say it's not as good as the book, they make a newer version of a film and they say it's not as good as the first. I think most people are biassed, as it's only the people who've seen the original that complain.

After seeing the remake of omen however, I do now want to see the others. But only cos I liked the story, I ignored the fact that they picked a shit kid, that julia styles can't act, that they got trumpet blower pete postlethwaite to join in. The modernisation enhanced the story line for me, if they stick a load of white paint on your face and make spooky ghost sounds it doesn't automatically make it better, like they did back in the day.

Like I said before in another thread, we all have our exorcist. Salems lot was mine, and it probably counts for the omen too. We have our own memories of how the original affected our state of mind.
