That's because a lot of Irish people immagrated to the US, especially during the 1840's. You see, the English occupied Ireland from 1169-1938. During this time the British had the Irish farm their own land for English consumption leaving the Irish with the barest crop, the potato. When the potato blight hit Ireland it caused a famine because the English were taking the other crops. Over 1 million Irish people died. Another million immigrated to the US. They kept immigrating for a long time.
By the way, this information is from a great book: The Great Famine. Can't remember the author's name, but I'm sure you can find the book at Amazon.com (This book was not written by an Irish person). |

Let me just say that I like Ireland and England. I like England for all of the cool places, and the fact that the people are pretty cool folks as long as one doesn't act like an asshole. The Irish are a lot like Americans. It's either hit or miss. The nicest people that I met in Ireland were the old people, except for the old guy that stuck his tongue down my throat. (AMERICAN WOMEN AREN'T EASY DESPITE WHAT ANYONE THINKS). The old women in Ireland are great. Very sweet.
