Simply put, it's entertaining to some (quite a few) people. Since music is about entertainment, they make money from it. Another good example, I like watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force. It's not understood by all, but for those that do understand it, it's very entertaining.

Truth be told, these types of posts are difficult. It's an opinion post, which is respectable. But you get people not entertained by them arguing with people who are entertained. Hence the problem with opinion posts; everyone has an opinion.

#1) I am not arguing against this band "because a friend told me to". I am simply citing his story as one example of why I would not support, and in fact, would discourage people from listening to that music. Any band where the members use and abuse venue and promoter employees to the point where said employees are ready to quit is not a band worthy of fame.

The Grateful Dead toured for 30 years, and their main demographic remained the 20yrs to 30 yrs the entire time. SO, unless their fans don't age...people move on from different musical phases at different ages.

Although it's clear, some of you have gotten your feathers ruffled, I still use the same argument that you would, say if you were defending Grateful Dead (ahem) or N' Sync. It's entertainment. You don't have to understand it to know that it entertains people. If you're not entertained by it, that's fine. Just don't expect you to convince others that they shouldn't be.

And although you may have chosen to attack me personally, NightBreed, I find your attacks much like your facts...unfounded. So continue to "school" me on the subject of Pyschopathic, if you want. Proving you know their history isn't so much impressive to me, as it is to you. If you like the sound of your own voice, by all means, keep talking. But yes I know the history of the label, and that includes who belongs where in it. Don't get me wrong, my great uncle liked the Grateful Dead and they seem to have a good following. But since most of your argument are stemming around them, I'd say you were partial. This, mixed with your disgust for the music (a.k.a. 'gross') makes me think you're recommendations for music might not be as "hardcore" as I would like it to be. So although your threats may sound scary to you, you're really starting to come off as a 40 year old. Sorry, I just cannot be threatened by 40 year olds, especially those recommending N'Sync.

All of you can ignore me if you want, and try to lead me to other "better" music. Still, I take pride in knowing that I'm defending my choice in music, which solely rests on my shoulders. While you may all not be convinced that ICP/Twiztid are worth listening to, I find your arguements as weightless as you may find my appreciation of the music. I suppose we could agree to disagree in this thread, and that's probably what will happen. What won't happen is a split second where I let any of you push me around. But truth be told I like stuff that sounds like two cats fucking in a meatgrinder. One of my favorite recordings, by the noise band Hantarashi, sounds like two guys beating the shit out of each other with belt sanders. Most of you would hate it and that's fine with me. The opinion of someone else doesn't diminish my enjoyment.

Some things to think about.

-Musical taste is subjective. Not liking something doesn't mean it's bad, it just means that you don't like it. If you are going to say that someone's music is bad don't make personal attacks on the artist. It's music, not a personality cult.

-Don't confuse music with a lifestyle. It's called cross-marketing to create meta-brand loyalty... if they can sell a lifestyle to you as well as a CD then you are giving them more money. Deadhead or Juggalo, same difference, your solidarity is just lining some dink's pocket, just like going to K-Mart. The music you listen to shouldn't define what types of clothes you wear, the way you talk, what soda pop you drink, or whatever.
