I think he does, but the Mothman Prophecies is based of the book, the Mothman Prephecies, written by John A. Keel, paranormal investigator. Most of that stuff in the movie is rather accurate, but if you want the more accurate version, read the book.

I was always under the impression that the Mothman usually gave warnings of impending disasters. I didn't know he was blamed for causing them
