But this is exactly the problem between The Shining the film and The Shining the book - picturing Jack Nicholson crazed from the outset in Kubrick's movie, the bonkersly winsome Shelley Duvall, not to mention the crude shocks... are all at odds with the feel of King's book.

Kubrick changed the supernatural elements, and while he made an undeniably effective film, it is very, very different from the original story - and if anything, detracts from it.

I agree with you.

Funny thing is i wont read the shining the book for basically the same reason... I love the movie and i dont want to ruin the experience by reading the book.

Plus, i am reading "Dunwich Horror" right now, which is a mere 44 pages and it is taking me for-fucking-ever.

I saw it when I was in high school (very, very long time ago). I remember then that I liked it. But then, I remember when I was a kid I saw Mark of the Devil in the theater and loved it. Last year I bought it from Movies Unlimited and thought "What the hell was I thinking? This movie sucks!" So I can't really give you a new perspective on it. Sorry! I know Netflix has it, if you belong to Netflix rent it.

I do and i will :)

i am really cautious though. The guy who did Dagon is a hardcore fan, but he proves that enthusiasm does not make up for talent and story telling.

This was directed by Daniel Haller (never heard of him). It also has Ed Begley, Talia Shire, Lloyd Bochner, and Sam Jaffe. Like I said, I remember liking it as a kid, but that doesn't mean anything today.
