the new trend I've noticed in thrillers and horror is children. Granted its been done in the past but now the kids are all pale and ghostly.
My biggest problem is that a movie might be worth watching for five minutes and after that its crap but Im not the type of person to just watch five minutes, I give everything a chance. Take ghost ship. When everyone on the boat is slaughterd its extremly entertaining. The facial expressions the sound effects and the little girl who survived the cord and watched all the grown people around her fall to the ground in two. That was wicked and even the idea behind the ghost ship was alright, the whole wicked sin and greed, but you can get that from the bible. Anyhow, that gives ghost ship a cool opening and neat plot but NONE of that saved that damned movie. Cabin Fever, however had the makings of being horrible, cliche teen horror. It wasn't though. It was thrilling and tit free, good gore and imaginative scenes. It was creepy in all the right places and made me cringe which is a bold statement. It wasn't just a bunch of boos, its held suspense.
I think I just left the deep end and forgot my point, this happens a lot.

If you went to see Alone In The Dark, then it is not Hollywood that has the problem. They have succeeded in doing what they set out to do-get people to pay for garbage. Yes, Hollywood has absolutely hideous taste, but you easily led lemmings who shell out your hard earned dollars aren't helping either. Is it so difficult to see that movie would be bad? Use your fucking brain.

hollywood has bad taste ?
Hollywood is nothing more than a reflection of the people who see the movies.
They use very calculated decisions when making the bulk of movies based on who is likely to pay for it.

this is kind of what you are saying but its not Hollywood that has bad taste .. its the public that proves time and time again what films are finantially viable to make.

Here is my theory (kind of like gravity is a theory, its law, but it still breaks some rules, so it is called a theory)

Hollywood wants to make movies that sell tickets. Quality has 0 to do with it. This is why we cant get a decent lovecraft flick, but we have Darkness Falls and Freddy Vs Jason.

I wish the show Action with jay Mohr was still on, they made fun of hollywood perfectly. Everyone in that show was a selfish, back-stabbing asshole. The bottom line was everything.

Gordon Gekko has left the stock market and now sits on the board of directors for every major studio on earth.

I garuntee, if Titanic wasnt made by Jim Cameron, or he didnt retain the amount of rights that he did, we would have a sequal to it by now. It may have been straight to video, and would have starred leo and kate look-alikes, but we would have it. It would sit next to "Bring it on Again" and Starship troopers 2.

Correct

by the way, Jay mohr is a queer... (no, not a real queer)
