Black Orpheus / Orfeu Negro (1959)

A gorgeous retelling of the Orpheus myth, set against the backdrop of Rio de Janeiro's Carnaval.

Really enjoyed this one...nothing short of a treat for the senses. It's a non-stop array of colour and music, imagery and symbolism.

Brilliantly directed and featuring a wonderful cast of little known actors, this is a must see for any fans of cinematic art - especially if you're also interested in Greek myth. The way the story of Orpheus and Eurydice is adapted here is fascinating.

I'm a huge Donald Sutherland fan, and I daresay that's my favourite performance from him. Makes the whole movie.

Yeah, he's easily got the best lines too. Loved the cinematography and the tacky humor in this one. Good movie.

Public Enemies (2009)

Offered so much but delivered nothing new and yeah, it could be made without Depp & Bale.

Yes, it was. There were a couple of scenes that took me by surprise with the brutality. Wasn't quite sure about the ending, though. I won't say here what it was in case there's folks that haven't seen it yet.
