Exquisite cinematography and some wonderful set-pieces and effects make this a thoroughly enjoyable flick. I liked how they paced this futuristic apocalyptic-shaded film after the initial 20-25 odd minutes. (after the Church scenes) That being said, the opening war scenes were very nicely executed. The overall tone and atmosphere is very dark and grim (ala Dark City and Metropolis), and although it is a notch below those two, it still manages to hold its own. Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman do a very competent job, as do the other characters, but the mutant-effects and gore are a slight let-down in an otherwise fairly entertaining ride. I appreciate this film a lot right now, and for those who hated Mutant Chronicles, feel free to sue me. Recommended to anyone who doesnt mind a more than decent sci-fi adventure with ample doses of grim atmosphere thrown in for good measure. Want to hear me sum up in two words? Watch it. |
The Seventh Seal: probably the best classic film I've ever seen.
Sonatine Bubba Hotep Cecil B. Demented |
Spellbound (1945)
Another Hitchcock classic...it was a bit predictable at first, but once things got going I was really impressed (as always). The dream sequence - designed by Salvador Dali, no less - has to be one of my new favourite Hitchcock scenes. |
Public Enemies
Easily the best film of the summer, made me want to go buy some cotton slacks. |
King Soloman's Min (1950)
Top notch jungle adventure from MGM, starring Stewart Granger & Deborah Kerr. This film won an Oscar for best cinematography and it's easy to see why. It's beautiful. If you're a fan of classic adventure films, check this out. |

Disappointing. Stick to the animated original. |
