ANNOUNCEMENT

I deeply regret to inform everyone that the fifth Finalist in the Round of 5, Jenna26, is regretfully dropping out from BR III at this stage because of health issues beyond her control.

She wishes to thank all her former teammates for making this yet another fun outing for her, and she wishes the best of luck to the remaining 4 Finalists.

So, as per BR III tradition, all her HPs are stripped from her and she is led to The Chainer's container!

Sorry to see you go out like this, Jenna. You will be missed.

Damn, looks like I am well off the pace.... The 1 HP made me giggle though. I really wish I hadn't wasted my time watching Twilight now.

_____V_____ 07-19-2010 07:14 AM

Never underestimate the power of even a single Health Pack. Many a time, even 1 HP can save your life and carry you ahead.

Still waiting for Judge Return's assessment and verdict before we head into the Zone outing.

All 3 Finalists have done their blasting in this "Chainer-less" Hunting Zone outing.

The update will be up sometime during the night...

_____V_____ 07-23-2010 12:34 AM

The Timeline inside The Zone

ROSHIQ immediately caught sight of STRAKER and let TWO rockets fly in his direction!

BLAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!
BLAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

Both rockets blasted within micro-seconds of each other on impact, and Straker flew through the air. He was a bloody and mangled mess of sizzling flesh and bubbling red-hot blood when he hit the ground. Luckily, his HPs came to his rescue.

Roshiq didn't stop there. He tracked down where MICHELLE was looking around for her intended targets, and blasted his remaining rocket straight at her!

BLAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

Michelle was caught off-guard, and the rocket blew mercilessly right in front of her face. But, she had more than enough HPs to survive the blast. Michelle was furious in her pain, and she was hopping mad to get back at Roshiq, who had disappeared almost immediately. The empty Rocket Launcher was dumped some way away from the injured Michelle.

Freddy Myers turned around sharply. The sounds of the explosions had come from somewhere near to his right, and he instantly knew he had someone to target in his vicinity. Taking his .38 out, he immediately jumped towards that direction and dodged through the bushes moving forward. Soon he came across Michelle, who was slowly patching herself up. Freddy licked his lips and picked up his gun. Aiming straight at Michelle's head, he pulled the trigger three times.

BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!

At that very instant, Michelle had slid towards her right to reach into her backpack. The three bullets caught her straight on her right shoulder and side, and Michelle felt the impact throwing her backwards. She managed to steady herself as she reached for more HPs, her fiery-red eyes immediately turning towards the bushes where Freddy was hiding. Freddy lay low and slunk backwards away from Michelle's sight.

Or so he thought.

Michelle was raging, more in absolute anger at being targetted than at her own position for being a sitting duck. She had shut off the sensations of aching which shot through her body and climbed up a nearby tree. Taking her Sniper Rifle out, she carefully scanned the nearby areas for Roshiq. But as luck would have it, she zoomed in on her intended target first - FREDDY MYERS! Taking careful aim, she squeezed the trigger rapidly 12 times!!

SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!!

Freddy was nervously hiding behind a big pile of rocks. The silent sniper shells zinged through the air and thudded straight into his back and chest, and he rolled about on his feet for a second before slowly slumping down into the ground. He grabbed at his HPs desperately and started patching himself up.

Michelle looked on. Oh no you don't, she thought grimly and jumped down from her tree. Hanging her Sniper Rifle back above her shoulder, she took the Magnum out and strode forward determinedly to where Freddy lay. Freddy was heaving and perspiring, breathless from losing blood to the sniper bullets embedded deep inside his wounds. Michelle came up straight to him and stood right over his head. Freddy looked at the shiny, glinting gun pointed straight at his forehead for a minute, then at Michelle in a sudden spasm of sheer alarm.

"Your time ends now," Michelle remarked smugly, and pressed the Magnum's trigger rapidly.

BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!!

The roars of the Magnum rocked the entire area as the SIX bullets seared straight into Freddy's head, blasting it apart into several pieces like a smashed pumpkin!

FREDDY MYERS IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!

That concludes the Zone outing.

Michelle and Straker are led into the Medic Center for further treatments.

The body of Freddy Myers is led into the Morgue by the Medics team.

Let's have a look at the updated statuses...

_____V_____ 07-23-2010 12:38 AM

HDC BATTLE ROYALE III - ROUND OF 3

The surviving THREE Finalists are led back into The Justice Chamber and then asked to sit down.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...7-16-22-37.jpg

I hereby address all 3 of you with a common question -
  • You're a producer of an upcoming low budget horror film.
You have only $10 million budget.
Your film is original and has no ties to any popular horror "franchise."
Your film must have a supernatural element.
It must appeal to an international audience.
What is your storyline and how will you ensure a box office smash, given your small budget?

Think it over, ponder your options carefully, do some research into the finer details, and then PM me your answers. My suggestion to all of you - take a lot of time to think, contemplate and bring out something creative and exciting for this particular answer.

All THREE of you have plenty of time till Sunday, Noon EST to send your answers via PM to me, which is 48 HOURS FROM NOW!

Your answers will then be sent off via PMs by me to randomly selected Judges who will analyse, evaluate, and award you points on a scale of 0-10. Beware, if you score below 5, you are liable to be PUNISHED by the same honorable Judge who is in charge of your answer.

All the best, Finalists!

_____V_____ 07-24-2010 12:09 AM

A little over 16 hours since the Challenge has been posted...

...and NO entries have been submitted so far.

I always like these sort of question, getting to the heart of peoples creativity and ingenuity.

$10million is quite a healthy budget for an independent movie ;)

_____V_____ 07-24-2010 08:58 AM

Maybe the Judge took some outdoor shooting and some B-star cameos into account and upped the budget slightly. :D

Almost 25 hours of the given 48 have passed...

...and still I have ZERO entries in with me.

wait - how much more money do I have??
:D

Someone shoot the monkey. :D

TWO entries have come in, and have been immediately sent to two Judges for evaluation, critical dissection and scoring. As soon as I receive the Judges' verdict through PMs, they will be posted here.

ONE Finalist is yet to submit his/her entry. The deadline expires in about 6 hours and 15 minutes, so he/she better hurry.

_____V_____ 07-25-2010 08:04 AM

The deadline is UP!!!!!!

The third remaining Finalist, Roshiq, is asking for some extra time because he was really busy with some urgent office and personal work.

Can he be granted that, o Judges? Please?

HDC BATTLE ROYALE ROUND OF THREE - THE VERDICTS

The first reply, came from Finalist Straker.

"You're a producer of an upcoming low budget horror film.

Your film is original and has no ties to any popular horror "franchise."
Your film must have a supernatural element.
It must appeal to an international audience.

John makes a lucrative living selling his brand of paranormal services to wealthy individuals who believe there homes are haunted. For a ‘modest’ fee he can guarantee to provide customers with a ‘complete paranormal cleansing’ of their home. John is ably assisted by his mexican sidekick who occasionally works hard but importantly works for peanuts. While John has a whole host of fancy ghost hunting equipment and furthermore delights in putting on a show for his customers, there can be no mistake that when the job is done, John is no more than a sceptic looking to make ‘big bucks from rich people’.

After completing his most recent job, a paranormal cleansing of a thought to be haunted apartment block, our hero receives a call asking for his services. The job is an out of town mansion that the new owners believe to be haunted. John explains that due to the nature of the job his services won’t come cheap. His new mark, sorry customer, appears unconcerned with cost and our intrepid ghost hunter soon realises this is a job that could pay for his whole summer.

Sidekick in tow, John heads out of town to what will be his home for the duration of the job. Upon arrival, John allows his sidekick to unload the van while further discussing costs with his customers. John is soon given a tour of his latest paranormal challenge and delights in demonstrating the complex nature of his work to his new customers and finally, of course, asking them to stay away until the cleansing is complete. Customers out the way, John and his sidekick crack open a few beers and settle in for a lazy weekend of ghost hunting…. If it isn’t already apparent at this point, it should be known that the main drive of the film is comedic rather than serious.

Now our two hero’s are at their destination and alone and the real fun can begin. The first night our hero’s discover their ghost hunting equipment giving off some strange readings. From here we are plunged into a banquet of bumps in the night, poltergeists and ghostly figures prowling the hallways.

By the 3rd and final night of the job and indeed our story our hero’s are resolved to getting out of the house and heading home. Of course its not that easy as our hero's find themselves trapped. The slapstick horror is taken up to the extreme ultimately culminating in the destruction of the house just before day break. As our hero’s stumble from the wreckage they are greeted by the home owners pulling into the driveway who ask ‘are we still going get billed for this’.... Roll credits.

While the movie would be filled with scares, plenty of suspense and laced with dark humour it is, essentially, driven towards being all out fun. Little bit cheesy, little bit camp, but ultimately exciting and uplifting. No tortured souls or hidden secrets, no sophistication or subtle plot twists. What you see is what you get, two flawed but likeable characters in a tongue in cheek supernatural survival romp.

Its international and even universal appeal is born out of simple and honest fun. Attempting to offer an antidote to the ever so serious world of modern cinema, the movie aims to demonstrate a return to honest entertainment rather than emotional claptrap. The budget constraints would be ample to ensure the production, direction and script were well delivered.

As for our cast and crew, we have a more than ample budget to entice the Bubba Ho- tep partnership of director Don Coscarelli and living legend Bruce Campbell to play our hero, with his mexican sidekick being played by the cult legend, Cheech Marin. Coscarelli ensures our scares pack a decent punch and brings a quality and creativity to the project while Campbell ensures a high level of slapstick, camp entertainment guaranteed to be fun. Having these guys on board opens up the avenue of further cameo appearances from guys like Reggie Bannister, Ted Rami and no doubt gives us access, in a consultancy capacity, to the master of horror, Sami Rami. Almost guaranteed cult success will likely ensure the movie finds its audience and proves a financial success. Even with some high quality special effects and stunts from guys like Bob Ivy et al, it is unlikely that the budget of $10 million would be stretched, leaving plenty of cash for a solid ad campaign for a small budget movie or even the possibility of a few straight to DvD sequels.

This is what esteemed Judge had to say in his verdict...

"This comes across as sort of generic. The choice of Don Coscarelli and Cheech Marin are inspired, but I'm not sure there's that much of a concept here.
I'm going to give him a solid 6.5. Small reward.
"

So Straker, you have scored a pretty decent score for your effort. Good show. You also win a SHOTGUN WITH SIX SHELLS!

Congrats.

The other Judge hasn't turned in their verdict yet, and we are waiting to see if the Judges' agree to give Roshiq some more time.

Stay tuned for updates.

Well, I haven't heard back from any of the Judges and Roshiq asked for about 5-6 more hours because of his genuine problem, and its almost 1 30 AM here so...if the Judges and the other two Finalists have no problem, I am willing to extend Roshiq's deadline for a period of no more than 12 hours from the moment the deadline expired.

So that leaves Roshiq with...around 8 hours from now to get an entry in, if he can.

Of course, this is if and only if the Judges agree with me. If he sends in an entry within the next 8 hours and even 1 Judge disagrees with my suggestion, his entry will stand scratched.

Sorry, Roshiq. That's the best I can do, buddy.

HDC BATTLE ROYALE III ROUND OF THREE - THE VERDICTS

The second reply, came from Finalist Michelle.

"You're a producer of an upcoming low budget horror film.
You have only $10 million budget.
Your film is original and has no ties to any popular horror "franchise."
Your film must have a supernatural element.
It must appeal to an international audience.
What is your storyline and how will you ensure a box office smash, given your small budget?
"

Quote:

Storyline:

A group of high school students set out to make their own horror movie with no budget. In select footage that was filmed in a garage setting, they find an apparition upon reviewing their footage for editing.
They return to the garage setting to determine if the apparation will reappear. It is here where they encounter a phantasmical entity.

Ensuring a box office smash:

To try to ensure a box office smash, I will pursue endorsing quotes from known authors, directors and producers. Aggressive advertising is also a key, perhaps focusing on test screening audience results, which would hopefully be terrifyingly shocking.

This is what the esteemed Judge had to say in his verdict...

"There is nothing original or interesting in this plot. It also lacks detail. The marketing plan is also uninspired and unoriginal. There's also no mention of how this will appeal to an international audience.

This answer FAILS.
Grade: 1/10
PUNISHMENT.
"

Sorry Michelle, but you FAILED this Challenge. The Judge has decided to punish you in big capital letters, so you have been SHOT ONCE SPREADSHOT STYLE BY HIS HAND CANNON!!

You use up 10 HPs in order to heal your injuries. Accordingly, you are left with 28 HPs.

_____V_____ 07-25-2010 08:41 PM

Roshiq hasn't turned in his entry for this Challenge within the extra 12 hours given to him after the deadline had expired.

I leave his fate to be decided by the Judges - more time or punishment, your Honors. Please decide.

roshiq 07-26-2010 12:48 AM

First of all, many many thanks to our honorable panel of Judges for considering my issue & allowing me enough adequate amount of extra time for the submission.

I'm really very sorry that I have been screwed that too but finally able to finish my answer and sent that to V after the extra deadline.

Now it's clearly up to you whether to give any further consideration and evaluate my answer or not.

Any decision regarding the matter will be good enough for me.

I'm not sure what kinda crap/gem I have written in my answer which has been really too long in length. You'll understand if you like to give it a try & read.

_____V_____ 07-26-2010 03:02 AM

I have received confirmation from 2 Judges who have agreed to give you more time, Roshiq. Congrats!

Your entry has been duly sent to a honorable Judge. I await his evaluation, critical analysis and score.

~Michelle~ 07-26-2010 11:18 AM

Honestly I'm not surprised on the outcome of this challenge for me.

But just for the record,

The day the challenge was posted was the day I left to pick up my daughter 2 provinces away, we had 48hr's to complete this challenge which in my opinion is enough time to do so! However when half of those 24 hours are spent driving and getting to sleep for a bit, It honestly left me all of 15 minutes do gather something together and send it in. I was actually working on an a damn good storyline that was completely different from the one I sent in, however I just didn't have the time to iron out all of the kinks, therefore this was like I said all of 15 min to throw together. I did not realize we could ask for extra time either, otherwise I may just have asked for that option.

maybe when I have sometime to iron out the kinks with the one I was working on I will send it in, not as part of the game but just for a read.

ALSO on a side note: I am away from home until sunday, I do have my laptop with me my problem is finding hotspots for the wireless. I will check in here as much as possible and hopefully do not miss, hunting or a challenge!!

Michelle

_____V_____ 07-26-2010 09:15 PM

Sorry to hear, Michelle. Of course if you had hinted about it to me or in this thread, I am sure the Judges would have taken that into consideration and granted you some extra time too. I can see how it all ended up as a very hurried and clumsy effort.

Waiting to see your original effort asap. I am sure it will be a kickass one. :)

I haven't heard back from the final esteemed Judge for Roshiq. Let's hope he turns in his verdict soon.

Doc Faustus 07-26-2010 09:28 PM

I'm for giving Michelle clemency. Give Straker three more health packs and let Michelle and let Michelle and Roshiq's fate be determined by their work.

_____V_____ 07-26-2010 11:23 PM

Very good suggestion, your Honor.

If all the other Judges are in agreement, it will be finalised.

neverending 07-27-2010 12:25 AM

Sure..............

Zero 07-27-2010 02:59 AM

agreed too

Straker 07-27-2010 05:03 AM

Should just make the next deadline longer for the next challenge to make sure people are happy with what they are sending in. As for throwing me a few extra HP's, I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm not really sure its necessary. I wouldn't have spent more than the 30 mins I did on the challenge regardless of how long the deadline was, we all have other commitments. I'm satisfied with my answer, reward, time limit and result.

_____V_____ 07-27-2010 10:01 AM

Well, Straker has accepted his outcome. And I have Roshiq's entry and verdict with me.

Here we go...
