Kung Fu Hustle. Probably belongs in the J-horror forum, but i've been getting a little lonely way over there. Somehow, this loony flick never seems cheesy. Despite the Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner feel, this movie was beautiful, fun, and even appropriately serious at times. Brilliant. Ashe.

Goodfellas (1990)

I've always liked this film but until now I didn't consider it to be as good as everyone made it to be. I was definetly wrong it's a masterpiece.

One of the most compelling and well executed thrillers out there. Great perfromances by Mitchum and Peck.

El Topo (1970)

While I still love this one, I think I prefer Santa Sangre.

I saw that one for the first time recently. There's always this weird, uncomfortable sexual theme in Jodo's movies, especially in El Topo. i preferred Holy Mountain to this one actually.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003)

After hearing the incredibly sad news about David Carradine, I decided to pull this one out in his memory. It's been awhile since I last watched it, forgot just how small his part is in this one...have to watch Vol. 2 tomorrow for sure.

Hard not to enjoy this movie. Just a pure badass action movie from start to finish - over-the-top, intentionally campy and featuring some of the best action scenes quite possibly of all time. Not as well written as Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs, but just as entertaining - easily one of Tarantino's best flicks.

KILL BILL is my favourite film of all-time, easily... for many of the reasons you listed. It's also an incredibly personal film for Quentin Tarantino, and it's essentially a love-letter to his own mother, who raised him without anyone else to help. She gave up so much for him. Quite beautiful if you look past the hollywood glitz.
