Hard Candy--8.0/10

Tour de force acting from the two main characters, especially Ellen Page. Showing off great acting skills for just seventeen.

More of a psychological study than a straight out horror....although the subject matter is quite horrific.

slasherman 09-18-2006 09:24 AM

Mission Impossible 3...better than number 2......

The Da Vinci Code...better than expected..havnt read the book...not gonna do it either

urgeok 09-18-2006 09:29 AM

Private eyes .. don knotts and tim conway

unbearable - i had to walk away 1/2 way through.

Miss Olivia 09-18-2006 11:32 AM

Thanks for the suggestion Rod, I'll have to check it out.

Watched Auto Focus with Greg Kinnear and Willem Dafoe, about the life of Hogan's Heroes actor Bob Crane and his raging sexual addiction....it was a great movie. The story was really engaging and never lost my interest.

dead man's shoes

Verve 09-18-2006 03:41 PM

Cube

I really enjoyed this movie. I'm to tired toooo give a good review, but it was a intense, violent, funny little flick.

I'll probably run into town tomorrow and buy the sequals.

Simon and Garfunkel: The Concert in Central Park

Excellent. Magical. Spectacular.

Goddamnit, I love Simon and Garfunkel. I highly recommend this to fans of the group, or fans of music in general.

R-Point
I expected a decent horror movie but instead got a GREAT ghost story. Loved it.

Domino

hadn't seen it yet and heard it was crap, but it is actually trash...dirty, dirty trash.

It's so gloriously over-the-top in a way that only Tony Scott can deliver. I really liked it, but I fell like I need a bath afterward.

Anyone out htere like this filth or am I all alone on this one?

:o

Elvis_Christ 09-18-2006 09:20 PM

I've been meaning to check it out. I've got a poster of it but haven't seen the movie yet.

Phalanx 09-18-2006 10:56 PM

Yeah, I saw it...Thought the trailer looked pretty cool.
Gotta say I didn't really like it. The plot was just uneccessarily convoluted, the actors were none of them at their best, and personally I found the whole "No it didn't happen like that, it happened like this" retakes annoying as all fuck. Fair enough if you're going to do it once or twice in a film, but did they really need to do it throughout the entire damn thing? To me it just spoiled this thing further.
Probably the one good thing it had going for it was the score/soundtrack. It was an "ok" watch, with some funny stuff and some good action, but to me, just unlikeable.

After having a few days off and being in the 'skint' part of the month I stayed in and watched a ton of movies...

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World

Man, I used to love this when I was a kid. Never did a summer holidays go by when I didn't watch the entire Pink Panther series, numerous Columbo's, One of Our Dinosaur's is Missing and of course It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World! However after picking it up on the classics DVD Label for next to nothing it was a great if somewhat dated viewing. It still has plenty of laughs and is thoroughly enjoyable but perhaps would not contain the magic if it wasn't for reminiscent youth. However I used to love this movie when I was a kid and hell, I still like it now.

7/10

Mannequin

What better than some afternoon 80's trash viewing! This romantic comedy with the Starship theme tune was never great in it's day so it was never going to set the world of comedy alight in todays comic masterclass. However, taken for what it is it's not all bad...nice easy viewing - so says 'Hollywoooooood'!!

7/10

Devil Doctor Woman

I decided to complete my Guinea Pig Series viewing by watching the final DVD of the series. This supposed comedy I found to be the worst by a fair way in the series. Aside from the mutant turd (or whatever it is - T.W.A (Turd With Attitude) :) ) I found this to be particularly dull. The gore and effects were dramatically less effective than the rest of the series. All in all a bit of a snoozefest.

5/10

Guinea Pig Greatest Cuts

This completing the Guinea Pig Series basically recalls and revisits all the 'best bits' from the entire series. I found this to be the perfect film for anyone who is intrigued to see what the Guinea Pig movies are all about but doesn't want to shell out silly money for the boxset. It is much easier to sit through 90 minutes of clips than to sit through the 5/6 films. For this reason alone I will give this a higher grading. I actually quite enjoyed this, the only slight disapointment being that 'He Never Dies & Mermaid In A Man Hole' were almost added in as afterthoughts it seems when the other films clips equalled around the 20 mins mark these two were only given around the 6-10 min space. No Matter, it's all good bloody fun!

7.5/10

Harry Potter & The Philiosophers Stone

As Mrs Pea Soup in The Eye was off work to I had to give her the choice for a couple of movies. When she picked out this I must admit to being slightly miffed. I have never fancied these films but having already agreed I grabbed my popcorn and hoped for the best. After viewing I have to stand corrected. This was huge fun, it's not my type of film but I was entertained through out and certainly won't be pulling my face should the Mrs decide on shelling out for the others in the series.

8/10

Friday

Some good comedy was in order so without hesitation Friday was next. Still a solid funny film. I have never watched the sequels as I cannot see them being a patch on this. I still love Ice Cube's dad in this movie, never fails to make me break a smile " Son, get in here - I've been smelling you're shit for years - you can smell mine for 5 minutes!!" Simply quality.

8/10

Dominion

After the dissapointment of 'The Beginning' I held no great hopes for Paul Shraders original attempt (which is why it has been gathering dust on my shelf for months). However I was pleasantly surprised with this little gem. OK, it's not particularly scary but this is a good solid little movie. I will honestly never know why the distributors preferred this to the revised 'The Beginning' version which for me was pretty much a turkey. If you are a fan of the Exorcist SERIES then this is a terrific addition.

7.5/10

Final Destination 2

Continuing the series I rewatched this little classic sequel. I was still thoroughly entertained and WOW what an opening to a movie. This has to be one of the best car crashes I have seen on film, breathtaking! An excellent follow up to the original, even after multiple viewings does not lose it's appeal.

9/10

Charlie & Chocolate Factory (remake)

I know I reviewed this only a few weeks ago but we had family over and this was the 'people's choice' and they were not disappointed! The entire Pea Soup family are in agreement with the Dahl family - this is better than the original.

9/10

Dirty Harry

You just cant beat Clint. I know everybody has seen this movie so I will keep it short. Do I give this film 10 stars or only 9? Well, to tell you the truth with all the movies I've watched I kinda got confused myself...but you gotta ask yourself - can you beat Clint in this down n dirty Cop classic?...well can ya?

No. You cannot. Punk.

10/10

i absolutely hated the mixed media cut and run mtv editing .. but i was digging Rourke in the movie. I liked the content but hated the 'artistic style'

overused to the point of non effective.

but yeah - well worth a watch if you're as big of a fan of Mickey Rourke as I am.

The Flayed One 09-19-2006 07:05 AM

I finally got to watch The Boogeyman. I've been wanting to see it for a long time. It was really entertaining. It has a scene in it that made me laugh so hard I was crying. I really want to turn it into an animated gif!

BTW, it was this one:
