Other than the 2 pretty chicks in the lead, I couldn't find anything worth to see in this pointless sequel...same weird time travel crap was quite repetitive. But the effects and the making were alright.

Plot Structure?

It wasn't the worst movie in history, at times it's amusing and fun and I can switch off for an action movie and just go along for the ride still when so many elements are just B grade your really letting yourselves down. Jackman pulled a good turn as always as Logan and Schreiber was a MUCH better Creed then I ever expected and Gavin Hood clearly knows how to shoot a film.

There is just not much to work with, contrived love stories and unnecessary arch villians plots and a forced sense of pace. There is no real connection to the allegory, which is simply not on for an X-men movie, and the dialogue is a generally to weak to carry any emotion.

When it's just shooting punchy one line zingers and reveling in the action it passes, but movies can do that and still not have to suck at everything else.

Nevertheless I am glad that some people liked it, I have a great fondness for the X-men and while the films can continue to succeed enough financially there is always a chance they will improve.

Doubt

This powerhouse drama of baseless accusations and inferences is alternately fascinating and annoying. The entire story exists within the minds of the viewers as nothing is ever clearly stated and nothing is ever fully resolved. The film plays out differently for each viewer which is a triumph of sorts, but the characters are all so unlikable that I had a hard time enjoying the supurb craftmanship going on. The acting is top notch. The directing is a bit heavy-handed, butnever obtrusive and the location & period (a Catholic school in the Bronx, 1964) is lovingly rendered.

Guess my own experience with the nuns who taught me makes me despise the needy, cranky and life-hating evil bitches in this film.

Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964)

Sensationally entertaining escapist sci-fi. This is a clear-cut example of how to correctly invent and use "cine-fact" (no, that's not a real word- but humor me). The film comes up with halfway-bogus explanations about how things work on Mars, but it does so in a way which is completely logical for the space in which the story takes place- that is, diegetically there are no plot-holes. This is only after a little bit of belief suspension, but if you're not doing that when you watch this kind of stuff anyway then you don't know how to watch it and I don't know why you picked up a film called 'Robinson Cruse in Mars' in the first place. The lush Technicolor brings forth a rich mise-en-scene; Death Valley is transformed uniquely into the planet's barren surface, and volcanic infernos rise around every corner, isolating our hero on a planet which has little oxygen, little food and water, and no one to talk to...and it's hot as hell. As far as sheer entertainment, this film is top-notch; refreshingly, the special effects are on the backburner, while the study of a brave man and his struggles and successes on the planet Mars are explored mezmerisingly. A character study of a HUMAN on MARS? Where are the ALIENS?! It makes one long for the sci-fi of yesteryear.

been enjoying this one since i was a kid.

not crazy about the visual and sound effects that were also in Pal's War of the Worlds (i really hate that movie) but there is still a lot to like about this one.
