Historical fiction can sometimes be too gimmicky, and this trailer doesn't convince me that The Raven won't be. But it definitely looks like it could be fun.

THE DIVIDE ...from the director of Frontiere(s), Xavier Gens.

Quote:

In this graphic and violent, post-apocalyptic thriller starring Michael Biehn, Milo Ventimiglia, Rosanna Arquette, Courtney B. Vance and Lauren German, "nine strangers—all tenants of a New York high rise apartment—escape a nuclear attack by hiding out in the building’s bunker-like basement. Trapped for days underground with no hope for rescue, and only unspeakable horrors awaiting them on the other side of the bunker door, the group begins to descend into madness, each turning on one another with physical and psycho-sexual torment. As supplies dwindle, and tensions flare, and they grow increasingly unhinged by their close quarters and hopelessness, each act against one another becomes more depraved than the next. While everyone in the bunker allows themselves to be overcome by desperation and lose their humanity, one survivor holds onto a thin chance for escape even with no promise of salvation on the outside."

PLAYBACK ...directed by Michael Nickles.

Quote:

"While digging into their town's infamous past, a group of high school students unwittingly unlock a dark secret, unleashing an evil spirit that takes possession of its victims." The film stars Christian Slater, Toby Hemingway, Johnny Pacar and Ambyr Childers.

Stars genre faves AJ Bowen (The Signal, House of the Devil, A Horrible Way to Die, Hatchet 2) and Anessa Ramsey (YellowBrickRoad, The Signal).

Quote:

"A group of kidnappers abduct the daughter of a wealthy socialite and hide out in an abandoned school on the edge of town. But feelings of guilt soon overtake the kidnappers, dividing the group and putting their entire plan in jeopardy. The evening further spirals out of control when their poorly chosen hideout becomes a hunting ground for a mysterious creature that requires springtime ritualistic sacrifices."

Really pumped for The Innkeepers. Ti West seems to understand what makes great horror; he doesn't fall for the over-indulgence that a lot of horror filmmakers do now.

He's only made one good horror film in my opinion, that being The House Of The Devil. As for your point about over-indulgence, i felt that Cabin Fever 2 was chock full of that and it's that movie alone that causes me to be wary of him despite how good House of the Devil was. I'll still check it out though.

LITTLE DEATHS ...looks promising.

Quote:

What would you do for the ultimate sexual rush? Welcome to a world where illicit sexual desire propels seemingly ordinary people to act out fantasies that can separate monotony from ecstasy…but also transform life into agonizing death!

On December 13th, Image Entertainment releases the critically acclaimed psychological thriller Little Deaths (review) on unrated DVD. The opening night film at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, Little Deaths presents three titillating and terrifying tales of sex, power – and retribution – and what happens when these primal forces are violated.

In the vein of such classic horror anthologies as “Dead of Night,” “Tales from the Crypt” and “Tales from the Darkside,” Little Deaths takes the hunger for sex beyond pain and pleasure into the realm of a living nightmare. Have at it...if you dare!

In “House & Home,” written and directed by Sean Hogan, the ultimate revenge fantasy gets a kinky upgrade. Affluent couple Richard and Victoria (Luke DeLacey and Suibhan Harrison) have a particularly debasing sexual foible. They pose as religious good Samaritans and lure less fortunate women to their luxurious home, only to abduct and assault them as part of their “entitlement” to the good life. But their latest capture, a homeless woman named “Sorrow” (Holly Lucas), just might show that they’ve bit off more than they can chew...

In Andrew Parkinson’s “Mutant Tool,” Jennifer (Jodie Jamieson) is a former prostitute and drug addict trying to get her life back on track, but living with her former pimp/drug dealing boyfriend Frank (Daniel Brocklebank) isn’t helping matters. Jen’s seeing a psychiatrist, who suddenly has Jen taking a new medication. While warned of potential side effects, Jen starts experiencing psychic connections and shocking visions of someone behind plastic curtains – bound, helmeted, dangling in the air and in a painful state of perpetual sexual arousal. As these hallucinations intensify, Jen comes to realize that she’s part (with Frank’s collaboration) of a terrifying experiment in manufacturing – and bottling – the ultimate sexual high.

Written and directed by Simon Rumley – the indie sensation behind Red, White and Blue -- “Bitch” details the sado-masochistic relationship between receptionist Claire (Kate Braithwaite) and her docile and obedient boyfriend Pete (Tom Sawyer). Ironically, while Claire literally treats Pete like a dog – going so far as occasionally leashing him and having him sleep in a doghouse – Claire also suffers from a pathological fear of canines. But when Claire’s sexual games become more than he can bear, Pete puts in motion a series of events that will not only give Claire a taste of her own medicine, but add new meaning to “going to the dogs...”

RAMPART ...debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival, the movie's poster declares that Woody Harrelson is the "most corrupt cop ever seen on screen."

Quote:

There's a terrific history of corrupt cops in cinema history. From Nicolas Cage's Terence McDonagh in Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans to Denzel Washington's Alonzo Harris in Training Day, to Gary Oldman's Sansfield in Leon, the character type has been around forever and when done right, it can be amazing. Now enter Woody Harrelson's Dave Brown from the new Oren Moverman film Rampart.

Los Angeles, 1999. Officer Dave Brown (two-time Academy Award(R) nominee Woody Harrelson) is a Vietnam vet and a Rampart Precinct cop, dedicated to doing "the people's dirty work" and asserting his own code of justice, often blurring the lines between right and wrong to maintain his action-hero state of mind. When he gets caught on tape beating a suspect, he finds himself in a personal and emotional downward spiral as the consequences of his past sins and his refusal to change his ways in light of a department-wide corruption scandal seal his fate. Brown internalizes his fear, anguish and paranoia as his world, complete with two ex-wives who are sisters, two daughters, an aging mentor dispensing bad advice, investigators galore, and a series of seemingly random women, starts making less and less sense. In the end, what is left is a human being stripped of all his pretense, machismo, chauvinism, arrogance, sexism, homophobia, racism, aggression, misanthropy; but is it enough to redeem him as a man?

Rampart is Oren Moverman's follow-up to the Oscar nominated The Messenger and features an all-star cast that includes Ben Foster, Sigourney Weaver, Steve Buscemi, Ice Cube, Cynthia Nixon, Anne Heche and Brie Larson.

The film will have it's Oscar qualifying run in Los Angeles and New York starting next week and will be released nationwide in January.

THE RAVEN ...first international trailer. James McTeigue's (V for Vendetta) thriller is set in the last days of Edgar Allan Poe's life, when he gets wrapped up in a serial killer investigation.

"Luke Evans will play a detective who partners with Poe (Cusack) to search for a serial killer who has kidnapped the author's fiancee (Alice Eve) and has gone on a murder spree that mimics the author's work."

Quote:

In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack, Being John Malkovich) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans, Immortals) to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin), the film also stars Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster).

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe's writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

THE CABIN IN THE WOODS ...new spoiler-FULL trailer which reveals a LOT about the film! (be warned!)

If you think you know this story, think again. 'Cabin in the Woods' is a mind-blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out."

Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams and Brian White all star.

THE EXPENDABLES 2 ...first official trailer.

Quote:

The Expendables are back and this time it's personal... Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Lee Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) -- with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard -- are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time -- six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that's nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way…

THE SQUAD ...first full-length trailer of the supernatural war movie from Columbia, named El Paramo.

Quote:

The film that begins when all contact with a military base high in the desolate wastelands of Colombia has been lost. The authorities - believing the base to have fallen to a terrorist attack - send a nine-man squad to investigate. When they arrive, the men discover a shocking scene of carnage, and only one survivor - a mute woman in chains.

Gradually the isolation, the inability to communicate with the outside world and the impossibility of escape begin to undermine the sanity of the soldiers. They start to question the identity of their enemy, and the true nature of the strange, silent woman. Is she a terrorist? A victim? Or something more sinister? Something supernatural...

Paranoia takes root. Prisoners of fear and the terrible secret they share, their humanity abandoned, the men turn savagely on each other.

POV - Point Of View ...J-horror's latest, directed by Norio Tsuruta of Premonition fame.

Quote:

Actresses Shida Mirai and Kawaguchi Haruna will star in a new horror movie, titled “POV ~Norowareta Film“, directed by master of Japanese horror, Tsuruta Norio. This will be Shida and Kawaguchi’s second time co-starring together, with their first being LISMO’s drama “Koiiro Waltz“.

The movie is a horror documentary that features actual experiences from the cast and program officials. Set at Kawaguchi’s junior high school, the story starts where the two are recording a program for mobile phones.

Shida expressed, “I’ve never experienced anything more frightening than this.” This is the first time that both actresses will appear in something horror related. Shida commented, “I don’t think I’ll ever forget that experience even if I become an adult. I’m worried because everyone will see this in a movie form.” She also showed her ‘bond’ with Kawaguchi saying, “If I was alone, I would’ve been scared and ran away. As Kawaguchi-san and I combined our power, we were able to overcome it.”

Meanwhile, Kawaguchi stated in fear, “I didn’t think my careless remarks would turn out like that. When I think about it now, it’s terrifying. I don’t want to think about it anymore.“ She continued, “I don’t know what would’ve happened if Mirai-san wasn’t there.”

“POV ~Norowareta Film” is scheduled to hit theatres on February 18th of next year.

THALE ...two official teasers of the Norwegian horror releasing in 2012.

Press note:

Quote:

"Thale" is by far the best follow up to "Troll Hunter" you could have expected...dark, cynical nordic mythology horror told in the unique style of the Norwegian film mafia. If you haven't caught with the story - which was covered almost everywhere in the horror blog-o-sphere - this film tells the tale of the Huldra - a mythical nymph-style creature living in the nordic woods, which craves for sex and has a kinky cow tail.
According to Wiki:

Quote:

"In some traditions, the huldra lures men into the forest to have sexual intercourse with her, rewarding those who satisfy her and often killing those who do not. The Norwegian huldra is a lot less bloodthirsty and may simply kidnap a man or lure him into the underworld. She sometimes steals human infants and replaces them with her own ugly huldrebarn (changeling huldre children). In some cases, the intercourse resulted in a child, being presented to the unknowing father. In some cases, she forces him to marry her."
