The Mothman 02-25-2009 09:47 PM

Had a bit of a movie marathon yesterday
Saw:

Downfall
good german movie about hitler's last days, the actor playing hitler was particularly convincing.

Letters from Iwo Jima
pretty good war movie, although i feel there was CGI used in places when it clearly wasn't needed.

[Rec]
Nice atmosphere in this one for sure. didn't find it quite as scary as everyone claimed though, however the final scenes were especially creepy.

Apocalypse Now
yep, first time seeing it. Great film, focused more on the utter insanity of Vietnam than the horrors as the Deer Hunter did. I think The Deer Hunter rang a little more true to me as to what Vietnam must have felt like, but this film was fabulous all the same.

Desperado
meh, it was pretty cool, nothing special though. I wish El Mariachi would work in my DVD player...

Max Payne

not bad - not great ... good looking film though - the scenes in falling snow looked nice.

cant believe they did the 'bad guy' thing they way they did ... there must be 100 movies like that - its such a pattern you can spot them on first sight. dont know why they bother anymore.

Death Warrant

Fuck only knows why I wasted nearly 2 hours on a completely pointless JCVD flick. Still, its good to remind yourself every now and again why certain films are to be avoided.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Pretty decent follow-up to the series. * * *

Beetlejuice

Still as good as the last time I watched it. * * * *

Vicky Christina Barcelona

Pretty solid Woody Allen effort. Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz easily steal the show, backed by good performances by the support cast. I felt the movie was a bit stretched, given the pretty simple storyline. * * * ½

Soldier's Girl - Very good Showtime movie. The leads do an amazing job (special note to Lee Pace, who is an incredible actor and looks unbelievably good as a woman) with their very difficult roles. Not an easy movie to watch given it's content, but a must see nonetheless.

Haha... I have a feeling you're going to be highly disappointed if you do watch it. :p It's not a movie for everyone, that's for sure.

The Pianist

Very touching...remarkable and strong flick. Adrien Brody & Polanski together create a brilliant dark tale of stunningly harsh, biting, brutal reality. * * * *
