So what'd ya think, Bama? Just a quick google reads a budget of 500k. Did it look bereft of $?

bamahorrorfan87 01-29-2020 10:11 PM

You could tell it had a small budget. I'd give it 3.5 out of 10 myself

That'd be a long marathon. ::big grin:: Good story arc.

Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) (currently on Netflix)
6/10

This was the follow-up film to GoldenEye. Interesting concept, and some nice segments in Vietnam, but otherwise not very good. Has an action segment in a printing press building that was both Bond-cliché and not dynamic, horrible flashbacks to the last few Connery/Moore films. Very lacking in heartfelt human connections. Disappointing, as I thought GoldenEye was one of the best Bond films.

LAST SHIFT 2014

A rookie cop spends her first night working the last shift at a police station that is closing down. The empty station has to be guarded until a hazmat team comes to pick up contraband evidence.

This creeped me out and touched on subjects i normally don't like watching. I also thought it was freaking scary.::EEK!::

GAGS THE CLOWN 2018

A clown kind of terrorizes a town. Was put together haphazardly and not really that good.

Gretel & Hansel 7/10

It wasn't bad. I didn't hate it. But, I didn't love it, either. It was an interesting take on the story.

I absolutely love The Shining, but follow ups many years later are rarely worth it. Blade Runner 2049 being a rare example. Is Doctor Sleep worth a look?

cheebacheeba 02-06-2020 03:15 PM

From what I've heard (have seen neither), it's much more worth a look than the BladeRunner sequel was.

Angra 02-07-2020 06:54 AM

Anyone seen the horror/comedy “Snatchers” from last year? It’s pretty funny.

classic_horror_fan 02-07-2020 08:59 AM

I just saw "The Car: Road To Revenge," "Terrifier," and "Murder Mystery." The first one mentioned is the sequel to the 1977 horror classic, "The Car," which is actually interesting and cool looking with its share of awesome moments, despite not being as good as the original, and it shows a good tribute to the original film on its second half. It's definitely worth a look for at least one time. Fans of the original film will and have been reacting half and half to it, though, depending on who and what they were hoping for. "Terrifier" is a comedy horror showing good tribute to the classic horror films from the 1970s and 1980s, featuring Art The Clown doing his things in the big city this time, which is overall well done for a limited budget movie, and worth a look for fans of that genre. "Murder Mystery" is a comedy horror starring Adam Sandler, which is overall very funny, interesting, and entertaining, that keeps interest throughout the whole film. There are a lot of good twists and turns, making it appear as if the killer is one person, than having that person get it to where it has to be somebody else, and so on... ::EEK!::

For a 1 sentence guy like me it would be nice if you could split your movie review up in three (not necessarily posts). That would make it more digestable for the reader.

TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL (2010). You may think this is going to be a WRONG TURN type of film at first, but stick with it and hopefully You'll enjoy it as much as Mrs FD and Me did. Extremely funny, credible story and pretty decent gore scenes. It's amazing what a little misunderstanding can do::big grin:: ***1/2

I TRAPPED THE DEVIL 2019

A man and his wife drop in unexpectedly at his brother's house on Christmas. They find him to be unstable and claiming he has a man locked in his basement.

It was ok. One of those movies that are hard to make out because of the lighting.

ImmortalSlasher 02-13-2020 02:11 AM

A bunch of Friday the 13th movies are on demand for free in HD. I've been looking and listening to a few. I only own my collection of favorites. I still haven't seen Part 9 completely. I'll search to see if they have that one this weekend.

Was that 2019? Yeah, I saw a trailer for this film, and I was interested. Seems like a long time ago. But you've convinced me to skip it.

Its actually based on a pretty good idea, because at times you do wonder " Is it the Devil or just a man?" But very hard to follow.

The Collector was a pleasant surprise.

A thief gets caught in a house with what I can only describe as Kevin McAllister after binge watching the Saw-franchise.

Good build-up, tension keeps you going. Nice climax. Good stuff.

cheebacheeba 02-14-2020 02:33 PM

I liked the Collector as well.
Are you aware there's a sequel with the same antagonist & protagonist?
It's called "The Collection".
It was slightly different in tone, and in my mind not quite as good as the first one, but to be honest it was a pretty worthy sequel - leagues ahead of some.

I understand a 3rd one is about to drop sometime this year, currently being referred to as "The Coll3ctor".
I think if they resolved things and kind of left it there, that's a decent stopping point, the series is still fairly fresh at this stage and realistically I don't think we'd want another Saw situation happening.
(though still wish they'd continued from that Goddamn Gordon as Jigsaw storyline)

Here's something you may not know about the collector.
It wasn't the first one.
There is a 1965 film of the same name...and while it's quite different, it actually shares a few elements...maybe not enough to say that the first "new" one was a remake, or even re-imagining (a bit I guess), but definitely some kind of inspiration was taken from this into the new ones.
Different characters and motivations to be sure.
Though a "collector" is still there, and it is about being kept captive in an enclosed environment I suppose.
Of course there was different sensibility in films of the 60's, so the new ones will have obviously radically departed in style and content.

I mean one could theorise that this film *did* inspire the new one/s, as there are a few common elements...just not sure (haven't seen it in a while) how much of a stretch such a theory would be.
I've found no such information to confirm it was even acknowledged by the makers of the newer ones.

As a standalone movie, the 1965 version is actually really worth watching.
I caught it on tv at the age of 14 back in the 90's, and even though I'd been brought up on Nightmare on Elm st, Hellraiser, Childs Play, Evil Dead type stuff, this one managed to draw me in.
More thriller than horror.
It's actually a bit more along the lines of that show "YOU" than the new films bearing the name.
Anyways, if you don't mind stepping back into yesterday, you may want to check it out at some stage.

I guess just the theme of being captive in an enclosed space with "a madman".
I mean I get they're plenty different. The connection is tenuous at most...like I don't think it's that likely.
Then again, who knows who has seen what/when.
The seeds of an idea and all that.

I can imagine Jim Carrey being hilarious, but Angry birds movie, Mario brothers, this,... what is up with these films based on video game characters who don't seem to do much? ::confused::

I mean, all I remember Sonic doing in the game is running around.

Yes, that is his superpower. In other words, he’s The Flash as a Cartoon character.

TOKYO GORE POLICE (2010). My wife was on YOUTUBE and found some found Podcasts by Jack Finch, who has a lot of clips focusing on "The Five Best"-Fill in the Blank-along with Runner ups and must say, He has been four for four in Film recommendations, TGP being one of them.

One of the bloodiest (don't even think DEAD ALIVE had so much crimson splash) wildest, Over The Top and just plain delirious films I've ever seen, dealing with Law enforcement against almost unstoppable assailants with a plethora of jaw dropping scenes. ***
