Belle de Jour (1967)
4.5/5 Interestingly enough, one of Luis Buñuel's most straightforward narratives may also be one of his most psychologically complex. Often noted as one of the most daring and erotic films of the decade, it is also one of the most truthful. Buñuel uses the character of Severine to exploit his feelings of repressed sexuality in a world which frowns upon anything to do with the matter. Now is as important a time as ever to revisit the film; I believe it was meant as a time capsule, something that Buñuel hoped would become more accepted and relatable as time went on, and for this he is a genious. It is escapism of the deepest kind, a voyeuristic adventure which seems strangely comfortable in all the right places. |
Glengarry Glen Ross - One of the greatest casts ever, if not the greatest. Started watching this for Baldwin's famous (infamous??) speech, and was blown away. Bf and I are still talking about it.

Yes Man, good stuff.

The Prestige
I can see why some people compared it with The Illusionist, but I gotta say, I enjoyed The Prestige more. |
The Silence (1963)
Best from the Bergman's trilogy of faith & doubt in God's existence. Stunning camera works that delivered the hidden dialogues of the script were truly amazing. >>: A+ |

----------------------------- Grindhouse (2007) It was on Starz, I think. Annoying that they broadcast it in full screen, but at least they showed the whole thing from start to finish. Still great, though. I pugni in tasca (Fists in the Pocket) (1965) A fundamentally disturbed young man decides to off his dysfunctional family so his older brother (the breadwinner, and the only "normal" one of the bunch) can be free of them, as a responsibility. This stunning debut from Italian director Marco Bellocchio is collected, yet angry filmmaking, a brutal condemnation of traditional Catholic family values. |
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker - Anyone who is curious to know more about the chemistry between Bruce and Jack (specially after TDK) must see this one. Am sure everything else has been said already. * * * *

Home Movie - The kids are appropriately chilling from the start, but meh... was expecting much better.
