Terrifying Girl's High School Lynch Law Classroom. Wow. Just wow.

The Eye 2- really drawn out. Not highly recommended. A fairly good concept though.

Audition- well I think the hype speaks for itself.

Forbidden Siren

The Host

I really enjoyed it, I just wish the pacing was better... I wanted more buildup.

Shintaro Katsu's Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman

I like almost anything Zatoichi and this really is no exception. Great gore, fun story, and Katsu is amazing throughout.

The Red Shoes-

This movie had an impressive visual style to it and the storyline is fairly engaging if a little plodding in places.7/10

jenna26 08-15-2007 08:28 AM

Premonition ~ more sad than scary. It is a bit slow in places, and had some problems plot wise, some things didn't seem to fit (might need to rewatch it). But I think the lead performance was strong, and there were some very effective scenes. Not without its flaws, but I really liked it.

XtRaVa 08-16-2007 01:57 PM

Cool I might be watching that tomorrow. Isnt it part of the horror theatre thing (maybe I'm thinking of preminition), along with a couple of other films (one being Infection, which is worth a watch).

Anyway, last watched Suicide Club.

Kinda wish I hadnt, as nothing is explained in the end as to how/why everything happened. After some research I found out another movie was released (I think in 2006) which was a sequel and helped to explain a lot of the things which arent explained in the first.

Bit stupid though, it seems as though the sequel was made because the first didnt make any sense, rather than a clever marketing scheme to make you watch the second.

It has some cool scenes (and some really bad ones, i.e. the part where it goes a bit rocky horror show) but I wouldnt recommend watching unless you intend to watch the second.

Hard Boiled

One of the best action movies ever... Asian or not.

Doc Faustus 08-18-2007 07:27 AM

Doesn't that have a record for most shots fired in movie history?

XtRaVa 08-18-2007 08:20 AM

Yeah probably. Theres hundreds of deaths and seemingly no reloads. :D

I don't know about shots but it does have the fourth highest body count and the three that had more (Return of the King, then 300, and then Two Towers) were large scale battles/wars.

The no reloading thing is great because when it's important for a character to run out of bullets they do. Great flick, amazing action...

DP McCoy 08-19-2007 10:37 AM

Antarctic Journal-

This was beautifully filmed, and the performances were first rate however the storyline could have been more focused. It was if they couldn't decide wether to pursue the psychological element or the supernatural element and in the end they do not really explore either, still worth a look.7/10

Did you like them? I liked 2 better than 1 but the first did have some really cool moments.

The Phone. Yaaaaaawn. 5.5/10

It's not even that bad (however I kept falling asleep through it) but unfortunately it rips off basically every good asian horror.

yea...I have already seen the Vengeance movies.

Lady Vengeance is simply beautiful but Mr. Vengeance is truly amazing.... one of my all time favorites.

But there are still lots of other good asian movies left to see.....Memories of murder, Visitor Q, R-Point, Wishing Stairs series, Tell me something, Koma, evil dead trap, cure and so on.......:(

R point is awesome.
Memories of murder is really really good its more of just a simple cop murder mystery but i really enjoyed it.
visitor q comes with the "im takashi miike, im fucked up" seal of approval.
Koma is awesome but most reviews say its fairly bad
Evil Dead trap is probably one of the few asian slashers i have seen, not bad but nothing great.
Wishing Stairs is like......... lesbian asian drama meets ghost stories, awesome.
Cure i never got to finish, the movie screwed up like 20 minutes before it ended. Pissed me off cause it started out so good.

My Latest Watches

Sukob -3/10- Complete crap. I cant believe how bad this was (then again filipino's just cant seem to get good cinema down). It has a good concept, good story, good direction, but the execution of all these just blew.

Alone - 6/10 - Good but nothing great. Made by the folks who brought us Shutter, this movie provides decent scares but nothing new or special in the story. In fact i was fairly disappointed because from the first 20 minutes of the movie i knew how it was going to end. But, the style was good, acting was good, story was okay and the execution was good.

Dead or Alive - 9/10 - It took me forever to watch these movies. I absolutely love Miikes work but i can only handle like, say 1 movie of his a month (if they are in the gozu, audition, visitor q category). This movie was a nice departure from his other flicks and for the entire movie i thought i was safe from a typical Miike mind fuck, but i was wrong. While it was not as bad as his other movies it just totally unexpected and it would be one and a trillion chance that someone would actually be able to predict what happens in the ending the ending.
If you are curious.... *SPOILERS* The last screen in the movie is a show down between the good guy and the bad guy. The good guy is bloody as hell because his car just blew up with him in it. So what happens next? Well the good guy rips his own arm off, throws it away, then reaches behind him and pulls out a rocket launcher and fires at the bad guy, while the bad guy out of no where creates a street fighter 2 "ryu" hadukin and fires it at the good guy, then japan explodes. The End*END SPOILERS* a must see.

Dead or Alive 2 - 10/10 - After seeing the first one i just had to get the second one. I was expecting an actual sequel to the first, but with Miike behind the wheel i should have known that was not going to happen. Same main characters as the first, similar idea, but still totally different with 90% of the movie being Miikes dark humor.
I enjoyed this one more so than the first.

Despare 08-30-2007 07:33 PM

I'd liken Evil Dead Trap to a giallo, great film, and the Dead or Alive movies are a blast. Did you get the box set with all three smacky? I watched Ran again... brilliant movie and one of Kurosawa's best.

Angra 08-31-2007 07:53 AM

"Ghost train" 6-7/10

Pretty good despite all its cliches and lack of explainations. And quite entertaining from beginning to end.

But the friendship theme was excruciating...
