The Thing http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg John Carpenter's remake of the Howard Hawks classic, though mostly just a separate adaptation of "Who Goes There?". Good perfrmances by Kurt Russel and Keith David, good special effects, heavy atmosphere and nicely ambiguous ending. And for the most part, the characters weren't stupid, so there's always that. VS Clerks http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg While it may not have been the first movie of its kind, most workplace comedies that take place in a non-office setting are compared to Clerks, mostly in a "pff, that's not nearly as good as Clerks" way. And with good reason. Look past the gruddy look and the rampant swearing, and you'll see some smart dialogue with almost a cinéma vérité look to it. |
