Session 9, for the first time.

It was good...but for some reason I expected it to be very scary, which I don't think it was.

Er, there was actually 5 of them...I remember liking the second more than the first...don't think I saw the last 2 though...I think they had a different cast?
Yeah, the lazerbeam was pretty pitiful.
Seing ninja die is fun though...

Remembering being a fan of Michael Dudikoffīs "Avenging force" in the 80s, when i was young. Think i saw it about 5 times or so.

Now, when i think about that movie i canīt help thinking, how far out it is that Dudikoff manage to survive in the Louisiana swamps battling several hunters. I mean, the dude canīt fight!!!

Just watched "Phantom of the Paradise" on DVD, and the remix is incredible. It sounds really wonderful! Looks good too, but it SOUNDS BETTER.

Ah, Phantom of the Paradise. Amazing movie. Really beautiful. :)

I love all the Phantom films except for that wretched remake of Argento's.

On Demand offers so many free movies but really I don't HAVE to watch them. When will I learn?

Jury Duty

heebiejeebies 08-10-2006 05:40 PM

Serenity. I never saw Firefly, and this movie makes me want to dig up the old episodes. I know it was cancelled, but I'm sure if it's worth anything there's a boxed set.

The_Return 08-10-2006 05:43 PM

While I was away there was alot more to do than I was expecting, so I only watched 2 movies, Dead Birds and Dreamscape. Second time for each.

Dead Birds - Im not as fond of it as some members here, but I do quite like it. Smart, serious and even pretty creepy in parts...one of the better horror efforts of recent years.

Dreamscape - To be honest I didnt watch all of this one (was watching it in the car, gave me a crazy headache...I never learn). Anyway, it's still a damn cool movie. Well acted, great plot, really cool design/feel to the film...I love it.

My favorite Ninja movies of the 80's were Enter the Ninja, Return of the Ninja, and Rage of Honor which featured Sho Kosugi. Does anyone remember these movies.

Update: I just finished watching it, and I wanted to add that I'd forgot just how damn cool the ending was. I really should watch this more often.

alkytrio666 08-10-2006 09:35 PM

Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist

I was presently surprised. A much better effort at a prequel that 'Beginning'. Besides a dew poor CGI animals, it worked very well. Just goes to show budget isn't everything.

bwind22 08-10-2006 11:39 PM

Ichi The Killer: Episode Zero

This was a pretty cool anime flick setting up the back story to the Ichi the Killer movie. It's certainly violent and perverse, but also very cool looking. I enjoyed it, but it was a little disappointing that it was only like 40 minutes long.

B

Band of Brothers

This is a great mini-series done by HBO. Superbly acted, good action & wartime violence. It's also very cool for me, personally, because my grandpa was fighting in a lot of those same places during WW2 so it was kinda neat to see what sort of stuff he went through. The part when they find the concentration camp was done extremely well and really drives home the atrociy of that whole situation. All in all, an excellent mini-series. Highly recommended.

Skinned Deep

Another low budget movie...but heck I actually really enjoyed this. Ya gotta love the dwarf dude from Willow throwing enough plates at his victims!! This kinda reminded me of a low-er budget TCM with comedy, so a pleasant surprise for me this one...

7/10

Hills Have Eyes (Remake)

This down 'n' dirty movie is by far the best remake I have seen. I won't go as far as saying I prefer it to the original but I like this as much. Really creepy, some great gore and a pretty bad rape scene are just the tip of the iceberg in this baby! Definetley one of the best movies I have seen in the last couple of months.

10/10

The Changeling

I thought this quirky little ghost story was excellent. George C Scott yet again is superb - I loved him in the Exorcist III and he was just as good in this little shost story. A very atmospheric film ( reminiscent in some ways in it's atmospher to the creepy Rosemary's baby) which with no gore relies on atmosphere and tension to keep the viewer hooked. Well worth a look.

7/10

Wonderland

Val Kilmer stars in this action/gangster/shoot em up romp. Playing the part of a wild ex porn star and loosely based on fact I really enjoyed this movie. Not a bad bargain bin purchase and definetley worth taking a look

7/10

Dead Mans Shoes

This cult revenge masterpiece I found thoroughly enjoyable. Filmed in the next county from me (Yorkshire) and I'm based in Manchester it contained lots northern humour and mixed this up with some classic tense moments. I loved the scene where the group is having a smoking session and as one leaves the building sees ' the elephant man' - absolutely hilarious. Grab this classic if you can.

8.5/10

joshaube 08-11-2006 06:45 AM

Well, I'm hitting blockbuster tonight and hoping they have some sort of deal. Like, 3 older movies for a low price. They used to have that all the time.

Trying to grab some of these...

The Cell,
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original), Halloween,
Session 9,
Dawn of the Dead (original),
Demons,
House,
The Wicker Man,
Pet Semetary,
Night of the Demons (1988).

TCM, Halloween, House, DotD and NotD being the most wanted for an old school horror night.

We'll see how cost effective renting three is...

The Descent

I went in expecting nothing more than the usual horror fare.

This has to be the best horror flick I have seen in awhile.
It took the time to build an actual storyline and character development.
It was scary even before the first hint of a monster showed up.

5 stars with a cherry on top.

strong female characters in a film are a nice change...especially in a horror film ..

correction .. strong well written, well acted female characters.

Taxi Driver

Love this movie - second time I have watched it this week. Watched it at work on my notebook and then tonight on my TV. A defining moment in cinema.

I expect nothing less from Neil Marshall. He is the man that brought me Spoon from Dog Soldiers, one of my all time favorite horror characters.

that was one of the better scenes in a horror movie ever .. someone actually going apeshit on the monster, knowing they'd die but attempting to inflict as much damage as they could as they're going down ... and at the bitter end : one last insult :D
