MOTHER! (2018). POSSIBLE SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >

Darren Aronofsky has made another visually dazzling film, but there are SO MANY metaphors and SO MUCH symbolism along with a pretentious script that it starts to lose You after an hour and it's awfully loud towards the end.
Have read reviews from praising to scathing, so was curious. Well made, but not something You'd want to watch often. **1/2

Roger Moore was 46 for his first Bond film, and he did 7 films! Timothy Dalton was 40, Brosnan 42. Craig will play Bond in 2020 at age 52! In Connery's last film he was 53. So Idris at 46 is just one of the later starts, but it's what they've been doing.

I thought Sean Connery was in his thirties. That's probably another reason why he's the best and formed the character. And Connery's run really ended at You Only Live Twice. Diamonds Are Forever isn't really the same character and style as those first bunch of films. And Never Say Never Again is that unofficial remake of Thunderball.

It seems like after Connery, the people running the series kept looking for someone who played the spy type before. Or was popular enough. I didn't know Roger Moore was in his 40s. But I know he was in a few older spy type TV shows that I haven't seen. Yet he also mentioned being too old in one of his final Bond movies.

I think they wanted Pierce Brosnan before Timothy Dalton but there were conflicts with that detective TV show. There were a lot of timing things mentioned during that period that a friend of mine told me about.

I still think the best bet will be younger Bond in his 30s. And set the movies right so you can do a good number of them.

PYEWACKET 2017

Basically what happens after a teenage girl summons a demon to kill her mother. Maybe geared more to a teenage crowd but not horrible.

I agree, better to get a guy in his 30s who can do action scenes. Craig was impressive (physical motion) his first film at 38. Who do you think would be a good Bond?

Seoul Station Good stuff. Good introduction to Train To Busan, although I would recommend watching both on separate occasions.

Like it's sequel, it does a good job at making you care about the characters (though the overacting is a bit silly at times, the first victims in particular). I've rarely seen an animated film this dark and grim, but it worked well, just like the twist towards the end.

Happy Death Day - When you watch a bad horror-film, at least it's usually so bad that you can laugh at it. Meh-films are worse since they don't even offer that. And this one was a meh-film.

*edit* The one thing that could have redeemed it a bit was a Bill Murray-cameo. But nope.

It’s one and a half hour of actors yelling to make the movie funnier. It doesn’t.

It’s comedy trash.

■■■■■■SPOILER ALERT■■■■■■■

I wouldnt use a sixth sense scale because while it was quite the" didn't see that coming" moment, I found it very hard to believe that " Mr" would go to the great lengths he did, even assaulting a police officer, to get what he wanted.

No clue really. First they have to decide if they are going to continue with having Bond be whoever is popular or wins an audition. And modernize Bond as the years go. Or find a Bond actor who actually looks like the character as described in the books. And not just have fans debate who is closest to the books.

Personally, I think it might be too late to stick with the books. And they seem to want to get a director who they can control and still use some of their people on certain jobs. Which seems to be why the 28 Days Later director left.

I kind of agree with some people out there that make the argument that we might never see a good run of Bond movies anymore. I think Goldeneye was the start of the new production and the movies have been hit or miss since. Mostly miss. At least the long stretch of Roger Moore movies are consistent.

Beyond the Gates

I dig this movie.

I watched a bunch of movies the last 2 days. Beyond the Gates, Gator Green, Purgatory Road, the Barn and Theta Girl. All of them were good. I like Beyond the Gates and Gator Green best though. Gator Green is a short, it's only like 15 or 20 minutes long.

I tried to post pics but it came out way too big.

HOUSE OF THE GORGON (2019). Indie film we saw last Saturday at the MONSTER BASH convention that has Caroline Munro, Martine Beswicke, Veronica Carlson and Christopher Neame (DRACULA AD 1972). Sure it's meant to be an homage to Hammer Films and most of the time, it did well, although the villagers look more like a Sergio Leone western. Obviously, the budget and schedule were very low, but it's not bad overall. Lots of In-Jokes and nice to see the Veteran actresses going for it, especially Martine (who was an absolute delight when we met her) and Caroline. ***

Yeah "Beyond the Gates" definitely had an 80's-90's vibe.

I like the story too. The lady on the tape is creepy. The voodoo doll part was cool too.
I really miss VHS video rental places too. Looking around at all the box covers before deciding which one I want to rent. I wonder if there are any video rental stores left in the US even if its all dvds or bluray I don't live there anymore so I don't know. I heard everybody has netfllix now.

I remember the lady on the tape but not the voodoo doll. Have to do a rewatch. I miss the video store experience as well. Used to go every friday nite with my kids and pick out treats as well.

Apart from a few moments, The Perfection did not do all that much for me.

The romance was well built up, though that idea makes less sense in retrospect. Then again, more things in the story do.

On the other hand, Alison Williams does a good psycho. If Hollywood has a remake on the books for Fatal Attraction or Single White Female, it would be interesting to cast her.

I love how the whole time it makes you wonder if the man is the demiurge or is everyone just going crazy because of the situation. Even though they milked it the whole movie til the end, it works. I love movies where the characters snap one by one. That never gets old. I'd give it a 9 but that's just me.

I just saw Evil Ed.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116247/?ref_=tt_urv
It wasn't my thing at all. The main character annoyed me so much I couldn't finish it. I can't put my finger on it, if it was the bad plot, bad acting or the main character's voice which was so annoying that made me turn it off. If you like really cheesy movies, you could possibly like it but it just didn't do it for me. I'd say 2 out of 10 for me. I didn't give it a 1 or 0 because there surely exists worse.

THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD (2018)> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>POSSIBLE SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>

While I normally don't follow this path, highly recommend You watch the featurette BEFORE the film as it opens more avenues. Wondered why color was added and what sounded like actors voices (wife and I were sure we heard Alan Rickman and Sean Connery) along with reinactments. Then after the making of, it all made sense and plenty of kudos to Jackson and all of his crew for what must have been an incredible amount of work and for such fine results. You really grow to care for the young men in here (many no more than teenagers) and shudder at the awful things they had to endure. *****

Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019)
5/10

Visually stunning with some interesting concepts, but the story theme was not fleshed out, nor integrated into the lives of the characters, nor integrated into all the action. The motivations of the main character, Dr. Emma Russell, played by Vera Farmiga, were stated, but was still essentially baffling.
