good start

TORSO starts off weak and slow, but the last fifteen minutes are stunningly directed... the ending saves the film for me.

Lately saw Laughing windows and it's a pretty good 70's creepy horror-thriller which I don't like to call a Giallo.

Some of my favorite non-Argento giallo films:

Spirits of Death (Un bianco vestito per Mariale) (1972) - one of the early films by Romano Scavolini, who later directed the famous slasher ''Nightmares in Damaged Brain''. ''Spirits of Death'' offers creepy atmosphere of the medieval castle, decadence and very surprising final scene, completely different from the standards of giallo thrillers.

The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh (Lo strano vizio della Signora Wardh) (1971) - definitly one of the best giallos by Sergio Martino, even better then later ''The Case of the Scorpions Tale''. Great role of beautiful Edwige Fenech, demonic Ivan Rassimov as her ex-lover, and - what's most important - very clever plot with many surprising twists which can leave you speechless even a giallo fan.

All the Colors of the Dark (Tutti i colori nel buio) (1972) - another great thriller by Sergio Martino, this time with lot of psychodelic scenes and pretty onyric atmosphere. We can see another great appearences of Edwige Fenech and Ivan Rassimov, as well as George Hilton. Finally, the fantastic music score of Bruno Nicolai needs to be mentioned.

Don't Torture a Duckling (Non si sevizia un paperino) (1972) - one of the early films of Lucio Fulci is one of his best at the same time. Beautiful locations, portraying the typical small village society and great gore scenes are it's strongest sides, together with music of Riz Ortolani.

Eyes of Crystal (Occhi di cristalo) (2004) - one of very few post-2000 attempts to reanimate giallo, and I have to say it's a good one. Great plot, good roles of Luigi Lo Cascio and Lucia Jimenez, and many references to the classic giallos, including ''Four Flies on Grey Velvet'', ''Torso'' and ''Don't Torture a Duckling''.

I find it so weird that J Lee Thompson who made Happy Birthday to Me also made the origina Cape Fear and Ice-Cold in Alex...

He seemed to end up doing a lot of but fun Chuck Bronson films..
