There are very, very few music pieces in history which give me a serious case of goose-pimples and make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Motion picture background track of Platoon,
The booming, resonating voice of Vincent Price in MJ's Thriller,
The saxophone riffs at the beginning of Careless Whispers,

...to name a few.

And then, there's this one...

The entrance, the people chanting, this music piece in the background...ahh the memories of those days (and nights) when I absolutely adored this guy...

I still listen to this at least once a day. I know this might not mean much to you all, but its a part of my growing-up years which I remember back very fondly and emotionally...alongwith The Goonies, 80s horror, and a few other close-to-my-heart stuff.

Hit Play, then immediately hit Pause, let it load up completely (indicated by the red line) and then hear it till the end. If you are a fan too, tell me if you dont feel anything by the time the piece ends.

Ok, I like that piece of music, but I would like to hear it performed by an orchestra, instead of synths (don't get me wrong, I love synthisizers). That's just what I hear, imho.

Here's one I found recently:

It's Stravinsky conducting part of his Firebird suite at age 82 in 1965. If those chords at the end don't do something for ya - you're not alive!

Oh, BTW the piece in Platoon you're probably referring to is Adagio for Strings by Barber.

Holy smokes, very nice! Stravinsky is a musical hero of mine.
I was fortunate enough to catch The Rite of Spring when they performed it at the symphony here. They even started it off with a recreation of its premier, complete with excerpts of the Ballets Russes choreography, with patrons screaming and running and breaking things and lights were going on and off and chaos was everywhere. Then they played the piece. It was, more or less, the most enthralling 30 or so minutes of my life. (I don't know what that says about my life, though :D )

Anyway, nice to see a new member with some classical tastes.

Nice piece of Stravinsky.

Yeh that theme music isnt available as an orchestra score. It would ve blown some serious shit out of the water if it was.

And ditto about Adagio for Strings. I keep forgetting the name. Wonderful stuff...really touches me deeply.

And for all the lovers of vintage music and 80s cinema, I have a real surprise rock and roll treat for you :-

Tell me if this doesnt turn you into a sexual tyrannosaurus. :D

Enjoy. ;)

Yes...its weird how a few notes pulled out of a bunch of musical strings can wrench the heart...

Whichever country you live in, whatever nationality/race you belong to...I gurantee that you will be really, really affected by this. Think of 9/11 (the video has scenes of it), or the 'Nam war (Platoon), or any other event which has touched you really deeply...and imagine this playing in the background...

Tried my best to fight back the tears which welled up through my overwhelmed heart, but in the end two of them cheated on me and rolled down before I could catch them.

Think I need a few moments of silence now.
