Nothing quite like it right? That flick had a big impact on me.

Finally! One of the ten best, IMO.

sukiyaki western django (2008)

haha, goodness...where to begin?

i got to see this on the big screen as part of a weekend-long "b-movie celebration".
i figured i knew what i was getting myself into watching a spaghetti western by takashi miike (and featuring quentin tarantino), and in a way, it's precisely what you might think. however, there are a few points that took me by surprise.

it's quite easy to tell that miike and his bunch have a profound love for the genre, and made the film not only to pay homage, but to have a blast doing it. the result is a goofy, gory, WAY over-the-top film, packed with all of the essentials of the spaghetti western; savagely convoluted plot, brow-furrowing dialogue, lots of cool characters, leonesque close-ups, cinematographic grandeur, intermittent flashbacks, a soundtrack that morricone himself could have easily written, and so on. miike, on a technical level, does a great job of keeping the pacing right and balancing between comedy, drama, and action.

and the gore is most ample, and very much traditional miike.

all in all, it's definitely a lot of fun. i'd recommend it for sure, especially to lovers of the genre, because that's who they made it for.

---------------------------------------

also, a question for people who have seen death of a ghost hunter (2007):

is it any good? what'd you think?
thanks in advance!

Day of the Dead (remake/reworking)

ended up liking this one ... fast zombies again - (some doing weird shit like crawling across ceilings and jumping like spiders) - for the visual effect - nothing that could be explained as an effect of how they became zombies - but i didnt mind at all - i kind of liked the way it looked.

characters slightly elevated above the typical cliches ...

and i like how they rejigged 'Bud'

all in all - it could have been a lot worse - it kept me interested and i didnt roll my eyes once (which i do a lot with zombie films these days)

I've actually got the DOTD film you guys are referring to...is it independant of the last DAWN film, or a sequel?
I might check it out soon all the same, it's been sitting around for a while now.

If this one isn't a contunuation, IS there actually a planned sequel to the ?2004? dawn?

Last seen movie...I can't remember...
I watched HELLBOY 2 a little while back, which I thought was really good, an improvement on DT's first attempt. Great stunt coreography and an atmosphere all its own.

It wasn't a continuation...... There isn't one like that planned that I know of, but you should watch the remake... a hot zombie slaying chick and a bit of fun.

.

if anything it could be considered a possible prequel to the 2004 dawn of the dead ... same fast zombies ... but in this case it shows where/how the infection started... but in all probability - its an independant effort
