i've also been thumbing through a book occasionally that's a lot of fun. it's called weird u.s. and it's just filled with all the weird tourist trap/haunted/unbelievable crap we have here in the states. it would be a blast to plan a trip around some of this stuff.

I just started reading Jaws. It's very different from the movie, in that it is more adult-oriented. I'm not saying the movie is geared toward children. But, the movie didn't have much swear words, sexual innuendo, or gore in it. The book has all of these. I still love the movie, but the book is catching my attention.

One of the very few cases that I thought the movie was far better than the book it was based on, the characters weren't nearly as sympathetic, and I think the writing is very weak. It was interesting to read and compare the two, for sure. But I never picked up another Benchley book.

completed all of the Laymon now reading Barkers Everville. Extensive imagination and plenty of twists - perhaps a little too much storytelling for my taste but inly 1/3 way thru - may get gorier?

still reading "the Spear of Destiny" by Trevor Ravenscroft. it's a supposedly true book about how Hitler got hold of the Spear of Longinus (the spear which, supposedly again, pierced the side of Christ) and attempted to use its power to conquer the world. apparently the spear has some sort of supernatural powers. it also delves into a bunch of "grail theory" type stuff and even some alchemy.

it's a very heady read, and one that I am taking slow so that I can really grasp all of the concepts that are discussed.

CRIMSON ORGY by Austin Williams. Great book about a low-budget horror flick back in the sixties that a lot of people think may have been the first real snuff film ever. Really entertaining story, very suspenseful and scary. I recommend it to just about anyone.

I'm trying to read Swan Song by Robert McCammon and I just cant seem to get into it.Can anyone tell me "Does it get any better"? It is awful boring to me,but I'm only in maybe the third chapter.

I've heard others criticize McCammon for his rather slow pace in setting the story, but I think this is a good technique to immerse the reader and provide tension. "Stinger" gave me similar trepidation, however, McCammon is quite good, so stick with it.

On a different note, I started Clive Barker's "The Great and Secret Show" last night. It's not all that scary, but Barker's writing is addicting.
