Ichi Episode 0

A real let-down because I liked Ichi the Killer and Ichi 1. Animation left a lot to be desired as did the plot. Wouldn't really suggest anybody seek it out.

Exorcist: The Beginning

Meh, it wasnt terrible. Better than I was led to believe, but not great by any means. Worth watching I suppose, but dont expect alot.

The original King Kong:

Some pretty impressive effects for the time. Have to check out the remake at some point.... heard good and bad things about it but wanted to watch the original before I made any judgment.

Superman Returns

not bad at all .. i was expecting far worse but i enjoyed it.
It was very true to the 1st superman film which i think was a good choice.

The Adventures of Baron Munchousin (sp)

An incredible adventure film, if only Brothers Grimm could have been half this good.

cheebacheeba 07-04-2006 06:34 AM

I agree on the authentic feel, and the more or less direct "sequel" thing it had happening...but I didn't think it was all that...I didn't dislike it, I just don't think it's one I'll be adding to my collection.
Saw it this morning...it was ok, and I think Bryan Singer did a great job at replicating the "feel" and look of the older films, made it seem very much like another sequel, the musical scoring was updated but along the same lines and well done also...The action sequences looked great, but something left me overall not that impressed...I think the direction was fine, the storyline/script just wasn't all that...and the film was pretty drawm out over near 3 hours too.
Also, they completely murdered Lois Lane...her personality is totally different, not the funny, strong independant chick that the previous movies and comics have built her up into...the new one just seemed plastic.
The guy playing superman was "ok", but I think Spacey is the only one that did shit for this movie...played the part, as he does, without flaw. See it if you're a superman fan, if not, catch it on dvd.

Fucking great film...storyline, the cast, comedy, music, the sets...not much to complain about with a film like this...

I think they should've given him more to say.

Totally agree with the Lane comment, it's my opinion as well and that of pretty much everybody I've talked to or read a review of that Bosworth was bland, or as you put it, plastic.

As far as directing, digital work, action, music, story...I thought that was all good.

urgeok 07-04-2006 07:46 AM

i also was dissapointed with the Lois Lane character ... she just didnt have the right look ..

funny toes too.

Running Scared...... Saw this movie a couple days ago and I was shocked because I enjoyed it very much. I haven't heard much about this movie before it. If you like action/thriller movies mixed with gangs, check this movie out. Paul Walker did his best acting in this movie as well.

i never saw Paul Walker before this film ..

to be honest he didnt impress me as much as the overall film did ..
i think he's a bit bland but the film moved so well it didnt matter ...
there were a lot of strong characters in the film (the wife, the russian neighbour) the kids were excellent as well.

there was a lot going on in this film and it was all balanced brilliantly... i wa simpressed by how well it flowed.

economical use of film .. (great editing)
extremely entertaining and satisfying.

(and no .. it wasnt as good as kill bill)

AUSTIN316426808 07-04-2006 09:27 AM

People are probably impressed by his performance because everything leading up to it has been barely above mediocre at best.

I haven't seen it yet myself but I'm anxious to with all the good things I've heard.

Went with my cousin yesterday and saw The Lake House. It was actually pretty good. It's definitely a chick flick, but I like both Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. My only advice would be to not overthink things, just watch and enjoy. I say that because my cousin and I got into a 10-minute argument/discussion about the ending and how everything tied together. (We don't have lives.:p)

After that, I came home and watched Spider Forest. Guess my mind was still fried from The Lake House discussion because I had a hard time following this movie, so I can't say whether I liked it. I'll have to watch it again when my brain is firing on all cylinders. (I might be in for a really long wait.:D)

Im kind of ashamed to admit it, but I want to see that once it hits DVD. Sounds like a chick flick version of Frequency:p

TOO MUCH LANGUAGE.

267 swears is WAY too much and completely unneeded.

tarcher80 07-05-2006 07:04 AM

I watched Monster Dog and Good Night And Good Luck, over the long weekend. One was good and one was bad. Guess which one...

slasherman 07-05-2006 07:58 AM

...so I started watching Spiderman 2 (again) today...and guess what it was a German dubbed version....and guess what I deleted it....

Posher778 07-05-2006 08:04 AM

The Relic

The monster was ok, but i'm not a fan of waiting over an hour just to see the creature. The plot was your basic creature killing people in a museam, but it takes way too long to get into it. There are a few scares, and once it gets into it, it goes fairly all out. There's some great gore, and the acting isn't TOO bad. Basically, if you're bored, you may enjoy this, but it's nothing too special...

6/10

The Flayed One 07-05-2006 08:17 AM

I watched City of Lost Children for the first time in several years.

It's an incredible movie. Unfortunately for me, the people I was watching it with would only watch the dubbed track, so it kind of ruined it. I'll watch it properly with sub-titles in a few weeks.

Hidden Fortress

The_Return 07-05-2006 08:45 AM

Last night I watched the original King Kong and Se7en. First time Id ever seen King Kong, and I thought it was great. The effects really blew me away for a movie of that time period.

As for Se7en, Id seen most of it before, but this is the first time Id watched it beginning to end. I think it goes without saying that it's an incredible movie, and Wow! What an ending!

This morning I watched Wrong Turn for the first time as well. Pretty typical modern day slasher, but it wasnt too bad. I enjoyed most of it.

You got to be kidding right??? Monster dog is a trash classic!! Crap effects, crap acting, absolutely shite script and even worse songs, what more do you want from a film?

How bout extraordinary, cast wide acting, perfect script and directing.

All the ''so bad it's good''/trash classic films are good and fun but when matched up against near perfection, it's just trash. Just my opinion.

Miss Olivia 07-05-2006 12:10 PM

Of course, great movies are awesome....but near perfection gets awfully boring after a while:)

I just watched Mystery Men and it's still pretty damn entertaining. Geoffrey Rush is one of my favorite actors, and Casanova Frankenstein is one of my favorite villains. How can you not like a man who fights with his pinky nails?

You're a very wise person, because you have the same taste in films I do! (See how I sort of pat myself on the back there.)

I like a good movie, this is true. But I can enjoy a bad movie just as much...and sometimes more!

Like "Dracula vs. Frankenstein" (the Al Adamson film). It's great! It's not just bad. It's beyond bad. But it's so entertaining, so cringe-inducing.

Whatever, it's all opinion. I just can't understand how someone could watch 'Monster Dog' and 'Good Night, and Good Luck and regardless of the reason, think Monster Dog is better.

filmmaker2 07-05-2006 12:57 PM

I like to say that no one movie will satisfy everyone, but there is a movie out there for everyone. We all have different tastes, so we need lots of different movies.
