Yes, it's a shame that Christopher Lee isn't in the film more - but it still has interesting characters, and I appreciate the angle about the three characters who outwardly portray themselves as decent and moral religious gentlemen, but their self-righteousness hides their double lives, involving a secret interest in embracing cheap thrills and hedonism. |

Even though Christopher Lee isn't in it much, it's still my favorite Hammer film. Alice's father made me want to jump through the TV screen and bludgeon him. |
Seriously? Out of ALL Hammer films Dracula Has Risen From the Grave is your all-time FAVORITE?
I enjoy it too- any Hammer film is better than most other fare- but that film as all time fave is a bit surprising. |

"Dracula" (1931)
"Dracula's Daughter" (1936) "Son Of Dracula" (1943) Classic films from Universal Studios. Eerie, atmospheric and lots of fun to watch. These are great movies and a great triple feature on a dark and stormy night. |

"House Of Dracula" (1945)
-Lon Chaney jr, John Carradine The last of the "serious" Universal horror films. Good performances by the actors, but a standard story. Not a great movie but lots of fun. "Dracula" (1931-Spanish Edition) - Carlos Villarias, Lupita Tovar If your a Dracula fan this is a fascinating film to watch. Made at the same time as the Lugosi film (but at night) and on the same sets with a near identical script. But this film has a very different feel to it. Villarias has an almost madman look to him when he attacks as opposed to Lugosi's more seductive look and Lupita Tovar is much sexier then Helen Chandler. I won't say it's a better film then Lugosi's (which is one of my all time favorites) but I think it's just as good. |
I've always wanted to see the Spanish version!

The Haunting (original 1963 version).
Good, and I appreciate the 'less is more' thing (as opposed to the 90's remake, which was laden with special effects) - but it's certainly not the scariest film ever IMO, as some people claim. It was probably more effective at the time, and without knowing the hype about it beforehand. |
I'm watching The Ghost & Mr. Chicken right now. I haven't seen it in years. What a treat. Don Knotts was one of the funniest men ever. We lost a great talent when we lost him last year.
A few years ago I got to interview Vic Mizzy who composed the score. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. |
"i bid you welcome"
1931 version obvious enough which movie. |
classics meaning from before 1960. halloween II would be incorrect.
what about between 1960 and 1970? i'm not serious, but if classics are from 60 and before and moderns are from 70 to present then what is the decade in between? we have a glitch. |
That's why I think the section should be renamed Vintage.

"The Wolf Man" (1941)
One of the greatest horror films ever made. Terrific story, acting and FX, and one of the greatest transformation's ever put on screen and I don't mean the man to wolf scene, I'm talking about how Larry Talbot went from happy go lucky guy, chasing pretty girls and not having a care in the world and became such a tortured soul by the end of the film. Fine, fine acting from Lon Chaney Jr. The upcoming remake has a lot to live up too. This film does have one of the funniest goofs I've ever seen in a movie. (this might be considered a Spoiler so be warned) Theres a scene where Larry Talbot first transforms into the Wolf Man, he runs into his bedroom, he takes off his shirt and he stands there in a undershirt and light colored pants, he sits down takes off his shoes and socks and you watch how his feet change and then he gets up and walks out into the night. When you next see him he is now completely changed into The Wolf Man, but all of a sudden he his now wearing darker pants and a dark long sleeve shirt. I guess even the Wolf Man has a fashion sense. |
Don't forget the other greats in this film- Claude Rains, Bela Lugosi and Maria Ospenwhatever- all added great moments to the film!

The White Gorilla
(1945 B&W 94mins NR)
Just watched this movie starring Ray Corrigan. I wouldnt really classify it as horror so much as I might call it an adventure movie but it was included with the 100 Horror Classics DVD collection. It's a movie about a man who discovers the existence of a legendary white gorilla and a jungle boy while exploring Africa with his comrades. The White Gorilla is in conflict with a Black Gorilla as it is considered an outcast for its albino hair. The movie is actually quite entertaining despite its use and re-use of stock footage mostly consisting of what appears to be footage taken from old nature and wildlife documentaries. The footage was used advantageously and fit well with the film. I liked this film, it was fun for its strange zaniness, I felt the cast of characters and situations were rather unique compared to other ape/gorilla/king kong movies from this era. It was like a combination of King Kong and Tarzan and Rudyard Kiplings 'Jungle Book'. |
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man
