The trailor looks good, keep your fingers crossed.

The only Shyamalan movie I like is Unbreakable, which is a great flick IMO. But I can't stand any of his other movies. When I think of poorly executed twist endings, I think of Shyamalan.

When I saw this trailer for Devil in the theater, everybody moaned when Shyamalan's name flashed on the screen, which I later learned is a phenomenon called the "Shyamalan Groan".

The Sixth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable are all acceptable in my book. M. Night CAN make a good movie; his latest offerings have all been junk though. And not just a little bad--REALLY bad. Maybe he can return to form, though.

Unbreakable was great. It copped way to much unwarranted shit it stands up to repeat viewings unlike The Sixth Sense.

cheebacheeba 09-01-2010 05:34 PM

Agreed on Unbreakable being his best, by far.
I think he does films with pretty damn good atmosphere, I'll give him that.
But yeah...I dunno, maybe I'll watch something more he did post "The village" one day.

Cold Fish...from the director of Suicide Club & Strange Circus

Shamoto runs a small tropical fish shop. His second wife, Taeko, does not get along with his daughter, Mitsuko, and this worries him. He also feels somehow unfulfilled and dissatisfied with what his life has become. One day Mitsuko is caught shoplifting at a grocery store. There they meet a friendly man named Murata, who helps to settle things between Mitsuko and the store manager. Since Murata also runs a tropical fish shop, Shamoto establishes a bond with him and they become friends; Mitsuko even begins working for Murata and living at this house, to avoid conflicts with her stepmother.
What Shamoto doesn't know, however, is that Murata hides many dark secrets behind his friendly face. He sells cheap fish to his customers for high prices with his artful lies. If anyone detects his fraud or refuses to go along with his money-making schemes, they're murdered and their bodies disposed of by Murata and his wife in grisly ways. Shamoto is suddenly taken in by Murata's tactics, and by the time he realizes that Murata is insane, and a serial killer who has made over fifty people disappear, he is powerless to do anything about it. But now Mitsuko is a hostage at Murata's home, and Shamoto himself has become the killer's unwilling accomplice.

Meanwhile, the murders, without any trace of the bodies, continue unabated. The police have long suspected Murata and try to get information about him from Shamoto; Murata quickly senses the danger and threatens Shamoto not to report anything to the police. Shamoto has no choice but to obey Murata's order. Cruel murders gradually cripple his mind and finally the ordinary man is driven to the edge of the abyss.

HOLY CRAP that is one splatterrific trailer! I'm honestly a little surprised to Rutger Hauer doing a movie this gory... or I have just not been paying close enough attention to him lately?

I am super excited for this one! You don't get to see very many giant monster movies these days. And the last ones I have seen were spectacular, namely Cloverfield and The Host. Can anyone tell me if I have missed any other good recent giant monster movies that I should check out to hold me over until Monsters comes out?

Black Swan ...first trailer for the new Darren Aronofsky film.

Quote:

A psychological thriller set in the world of New York City ballet, BLACK SWAN stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a featured dancer who finds herself locked in a web of competitive intrigue with a new rival at the company (Mila Kunis). A Fox Searchlight Pictures release by visionary director Darren Aronofsky (THE WRESTLER), BLACK SWAN takes a thrilling and at times terrifying journey through the psyche of a young ballerina whose starring role as the duplicitous swan queen turns out to be a part for which she becomes frighteningly perfect.

Elvis_Christ 09-07-2010 12:44 AM

Black Swan looks great and I'm amped on checking it out especially after how fucking good The Wrestler was.

The_Return 09-10-2010 05:05 PM

God bless Christopher Plummer. Who else can go from playing Shakespere's Prospero with one of the most prestigious theatre companies in North America, to a supporting role in a cheesy-ass, sci-fi vampire action flick - in the same year?

roshiq 09-15-2010 12:27 AM

Catfish

In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film the life of Ariel's brother, Nev. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.

"This is actually the sequel to cloverfield. The monsters now have a facebook account and are trying to date young impressionable bachelors FROM Manhattan. and as an added twist its was written and directed by m.night shyamalan."...a comment on youtube:D

I am a huge fan of Takashi Miike movies and this looks bad ass. I hope it's as good as the original. But I have faith in Miike.

DEATH RACE 2 ...by director Roel Reine (The Lost Tribe) and starring Danny Trejo (Machete), Sean Bean, Ving Rhames and Luke Goss.

Quote:

Death Race 2 takes place in the very near future, as the United States economy begins to decline and violent crime starts to spiral out of control. To contain the growing criminal population, a vast network of for-profit, private prisons springs up, creating a lawless subculture ruled by gangs, cold-blooded killers and sociopaths. The worst of these prisons is Terminal Island. Convicted cop-killer Carl Lucas arrives on the Island to serve his life sentence just as ruthlessly ambitious television personality September Jones launches the ultimate reality show, Death Race.

A brutal prison yard demolition derby that pits prisoners against each other in steel reinforced, heavily armed vehicles, Death Race offers the winner the ultimate prize: freedom — if he can survive to enjoy it. When Lucas signs up to be a driver, the stage is set for the birth of a legendary racer - Frankenstein.

THE TEMPEST ...arriving early next year.

Quote:

...with Helen Mirren as Prospera, the wronged woman who suffers when her brother Antonio (Chris Cooper) has her accused of witchcraft and exiled on a voyage with her young daughter. But after washing up on a remote island, Prospera gathers her powers and plots her revenge, while also dealing with the mysterious Caliban (Djimon Hounsou) and the ethereal Ariel (Ben Whishaw). But can she protect Miranda (Felicity Jones) from the outside world?

I like the look of 'The Tempest' ..looks a bit space out just like Russel brand.

I reckon Death Race 2 should be better than the 1st one.. bigger guns and ammo and more explosions :D

THE LAST CIRCUS ...

Quote:

I don’t want to spend too much time writing about the trailer for The Last Circus, because it’s images say more than words possibly could. That’s probably why there’s not a single line of dialogue in the two minute trailer. But I do want to convince you to watch it. It’s one of the most visually immersive, bizarre and oddly beautiful trailers I’ve ever seen. And it features a clown wielding a machete.

But, that’s just in the first 20 seconds. By the end of the trailer we’ve been taken through a myriad of dreams and nightmares, all filtered through the veil of a circus tent. Alex De La Iglesia’s film played to raves during the TIFF Midnight Madness program as well as Austin’s genre film orgy, Fantastic Fest.

Rare Exports

It’s the eve of Christmas in northern Finland and an “archeological” dig has just unearthed the real Santa Claus. But this particular Santa isn’t the one you want coming to town. When all the local children begin mysteriously disappearing, young Pietari and his father Rauno, a reindeer hunter by trade, capture the mythological being and attempt to sell Santa to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the dig.

Santa’s elves, however, will stop at nothing to free their fearless leader from captivity. What ensues is a wildly humorous nightmare – a fantastically bizarre polemic on modern day morality. RARE EXPORTS: A CHRISTMAS TALE is a re-imagining of the most classic of all childhood fantasies, and is a darkly comic gem soon to be required perennial holiday viewing.

The Ocean Black

It's been a week since Amber, Don and their young son Aaron barricaded themselves into their apartment. Seven days of family meals and board games while outside an epidemic has turned humanity against itself. Just the dead, roaming with their violent hunger, remain. Now, as the family's food goes scarce, they must venture outside to survive. The new dangers strike quick. A pack of undead nearly overwhelm them, killing Aaron in the attack. Destroyed without their son, and with no home to return to, the couple begins a journey towards a distant coastal town. It's while traveling through these graveyard cities that a new nightmare emerges. A perverse sense of survival turns Don into a monster, and Amber must find the strength to be truly alone.

Stake Land

With his feature follow up to "Mullberry Street" U.S director Jim Mickle brings a post apocalyptic view of a near future where mankind is beset by a virus which turns it's victims into Vampires, leaving the survivors to pick through the crumbled remains of humanity while keeping one eye over their shoulder.

Midnight Son

MIDNIGHT SON is the story of Jacob, a young man confined to a life of isolation, due to a rare skin disorder that prevents him from being exposed to sunlight. His world opens up when he meets Mary, a local bartender, and falls in love. Tragically, Jacob's actions become increasingly bizarre as he struggles to cope with the effects of his worsening condition. Forced by the disease to drink human blood for sustenance, he must control his increasingly violent tendencies as local law enforcement narrow their focus on him as a suspect in a series of grisly murders.

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

She’s in love – and lust – with the smouldery, romantic rebel Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents would much rather she marry the wealthy, privileged Henry (Max Irons).

And there are even bigger problems for her and the gothic village she calls home: a werewolf prowls the forest surrounding it, and the locals have maintained a truce with the beast for years by offering a monthly animal sacrifice. Yet with the arrival of a blood red moon, the creature has begun to prey on humans, killing Valerie’s older sister. Soon the villagers turn to legendary werewolf hunter Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), who warns that the enemy could be within…
