And now -

I proudly bring to HDC the one review no one would ever have expected to see here :

Mama Mia

Let me first say - without shame - that i love musicals ... actually - i love OLD musicals. I haven't cared for anything in the last 30 years or so .. but that changed tonight.

I saw Mama Mia live on stage and loved it. It was one of my most entertaining evenings of all time where live entertainment is concerned.

I was pretty pumped to see the movie version (i saw The Dark Knight first - so dont worry - my priorities are in order) despite some reservations with the casting - specifically Meryl Streep.

She was actually the weakest link ... i think they should have found an unknown for the role ... but she didnt kill the film .. she did OK.

For obvious reasons the film didnt have the spark of the live performance - but it was almost balanced by the great locations and other freedoms that the medium could provide.

I know there wont be anyone else here that will see this film, or appreciate it if they did .. and thats kind of too bad - because this is the first musical in years to have the fun and atmoshere of the older musicals i enjoyed back in the day.

and yeah - i was one of the .. oh... about 5 or so guys in the entire audience ...

Well, I happen to be a fan of musicals as well. I'll catch it someday.

I love musicals, but I'm not particularly fond of ABBA...if I ever get the opportunity to see it on stage I'd check it out for sure, but I wont be rushing out to see the movie.

I've heard the Original Cast Album and the songs translate to theatre very well.

It was kinda weak.... Watching it again, compared to Dark Knight.

you shouldn't rate "weak' movies 9.5/10

highy, highly disagree.
fantastic acting, phenomonal script, but boring as fuck. The entire movie i was waiting for something to happen, something that would develope a plot of some sort. nothing. boring, boring, boring. I went into it expecting some sort of "blood fued" due to the misleading title and trailer. that was a mistake.

NCFOM had all of the above and it was thrilling as hell.

Batman Begins

Doesn't disappoint at all even after watching the Dark Knight. Made me wish DK had more sweeping shots of Gotham though. Anyway, I liked how Crane said, "You look like a man who takes himself too seriously.". Great lead up to Dark Knight and such a perfect origin story. My only complaint would be the methodical pace but that's to be expected in such an epic origin tale. Great movie with a fantastic sequel and I hope the Nolan brothers continue with their masterworks.
