This film was awful. But I love Larry Fessenden. ::love::

"A Quiet Place" 7/10

It was alright. It was different at least. Ending felt rushed tho.

Day of the Dead: Bloodline - All in all a good remake with great gore, though I call bullshit on stalker Bub.

That's funny... I just heard story on NPR about this film... mostly about just how much silence is in the movie -- as the hook in the news story said, 'so quiet you can hear each crunch of popcorn'.

Film is doing well, getting good reviews.

Seems to me I remember some film had the same theme of having to be silent to avoid monsters... but nothing specific comes to mind. ::confused::

It would be interesting to see a remake of Day of the Dead. I see the plot is the same... how much did they change in this?

Those two movies are very different in many ways.

There’s a lot of “why’s” in A Quiet Place. No traps. No fighting back. People has just adjusted to these very limited but deadly creatures. And where did they come from, I have no idea.

I need more people to watch this movie so we can discuss it.

They kept a few things here and there.

Remake Bub does bear a resemblance to original Bub and the top soldier does have a bit of Rhodes' tone in him.

The major difference would probably be that the general tone of the film is the tone of this generation, with for example a bit of metoo thrown in the mix as well.

Oh yeah, that's right, The Descent. I seem to remember a TwilightZone or OuterLimits where regular folk couldn't make any sounds, but not sure.

It's the type of film I'd see at the theater. Of course there's no movie I want to see now more than Ready Player One.

Zombie groped me. Sounds like it's worth a watch, I always liked the plot of Day of the Dead.

Most of the groping takes place just before the outbreak. Afterwards, there is more than a bit of "well, isn't that convenient".

SKINWALKER RANCH 2013

Found footage of an investigation into the disappearance of a ranch owner's eight year old son.

Nothing too crazy but passed the time alright.

The Friday remake by Platinum Dunes aka Jason and the frat boys. Especially that Trent. Good lord, what a douche. Seeing him get his (along with a few other kills) was pretty much the only enjoyable bit.

Very enjoyable found footage. A sister decides to make a documentary about her brother who went missing years earlier. He and two friends were making a documentary also about the "Phoenix Lights" and never returned from the desert.

The movie does suck. I watched the Killer Cut version for the first time a few weeks ago. I still don't like the movie. The best kill is the axe throw for me.

Ready Player One (2018)

The story, set in a dystopian 2040s, follows protagonist Wade Watts on his search for an Easter egg in a worldwide virtual reality game, the discovery of which will lead him to inherit the game creator's fortune.
Excellent film. Lots of fun. Has plenty of action, cool special effects, as well as tons of references to pop culture going way back, let's just say to the 1980's especially, including a very funny long sequence involving The Shinging (1980), but well grounded into the story and characters. Well directed by Steven Spielberg. Based on a 2011 novel by Ernest Cline.

The Collector (2009)
4/10

A victim who escaped the clutches of a serial killer agrees to help mercenaries recover a women who has been kidnapped by the same serial killer. The serial killer must be rich like Batman, because, his hideout is huge, and he has tons of expensive equipment, and about 50 live victims and hundreds of dead ones. I know, it sounds like a good premise, but it's totally hack.

I often like to say... if the viewer of the film "The Collector" has never seen a movie before, or hasn't seen a lot of horror films, they would probably appreciate it more than me. This film has a budget, but not the remotest hint of something new. It's totally hack. Hack can be done well, however, but I certainly wouldn't say this was done well, it's merely competent. It was hard to watch the entire film, but it did manage to keep me curious, but not in an enjoyable way.

Friday Night Lights (2004) (currently on netflix)
6/10

A smallish Texas town is extremely invested into the success of it's high school football team. We see the lives of the coach (Billy Bod Thornton) and players trying their best to succeed.

I'm a football fan, but I wasn't as impressed as I hoped. It was mildly entertaining, and competently created. I don't think we get know any of the characters in more than a superficial way. And the events are completely conventional. Put those two things together, and it's just another day.

BUCKS COUNTY MASSACRE 2010

Party goers are picked off one by one at a friend's 25th birthday party.

Give this one a swerve. I would have killed these characters myself what with all the lame partying scenes and screaming.

The Dark Tower - 5/10

I never read the books but this movie was just weird. I assume a lot was left out. It just felt like it was lacking soul and substance.

The Strangers; Prey At Night - 3/10

I liked the first one but this one just sucked!

SPOILERS AHEAD...

That guy who played the dad is the shittiest actor I have seen in awhile . When he was supposed to be crying out in pain in the car he was fucking laughing. I wanted to jump in the movie and finish his ass off myself. What a letdown !

I can't believe that it took me this long to see this. This movie is so awesome and the girl who played Lola played the part perfectly! Best psychopath movie I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend it!

Insidious: The Last Keys

cheebacheeba 04-28-2018 08:30 AM

Trolls.
Well, it was colourful enough to attract the attention of my kid who actually sat and watched an entire movie for the first time.
I dunno...wasn't horrible, though didn't really feel like it was covering any kind of new ground. Few funny lines. I liked the textures. The music choice was pleasingly eclectic.
It was "ok".

I started on the new GhostBusters.
Can't say I really like it.
It's not about chicks vs guys...though yeah, it might be a little bit about *those* chicks vs *those* guys?
It's a bit too "all comedy all the time", and every character just felt too overdone, like they were all completely cartoon characters.
The ghost effects are alright. The overall storyline is like...kinda mush...
We're about half way through right now and haven't turned it on again in three days, I guess that says a little bit about it.
I won't sit here drawing comparisons and insulting it too much, but I will say it kind of feels like a movie that if I see it through, I won't really bother with again.
