I saw child's play,and the original fog last night it was alot better than the remake.

I watched the first hour or so of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World last night, but I was WAY to tired for a 3 hour movie. To be honest, I didnt really like it much. Normally Id finish watching it anyway, but considering it's due back to the store today I dont think I'll bother.

As for the last movie I watched...Dark City. I always forget how good this movie is. I love Kiefer Sutherland in it. He's so slimy; you just want to slap him upside the head. And the noise the Strangers make with their teeth and that creepy little Stranger kid...priceless. |

pity you didnt finish it - the end is a hoot. |

Two For The Money
I thought it was pretty damn good considering I thought it was going to try and be some kinda overly cool sports movie. Solid acting from a star cast including Pacino, McConaughey, Russo and Jeremy Piven aka Ari Gold from Entourage.(I guess he's not that much of a star if I feel as though I have to not only give his show but also the name of his character, but hey, tv star..movie star, what's the fucking difference?) Pretty much everything's solid, acting, script, directing. Overall a good movie. |

I didnt hate it either bro. For the first 30 or so minutes into the movie, I would easily have given it a 9, because by then I had totally settled myself into my seat and immersed into the movie. But after then, it went sorta downhill. The pace got affected by a couple needless scenes, the cgi just wasnt to par, and the acting was awful. Gordon did his best with what he had, and because of the first half and the climax I give it 06/10. For me it should have had better acting, decent cgi and some good and sound editing, and it would have at least 08/10 from me. Its a good movie with a great premise though. Sorry. :( |
I just pulled Willow off the vhs shelf and watched it. I still love the whole concept. The brownies are funny to watch, and I think Bavmorda is one of the best wicked queens running.

Salvage;
I heard good things about this movie from... well, the cover. Hehe. official Selection always sounds good. So, when I got the DVD, I skimmed through it like I always do to make sure the disc worked. There's when I noticed it was very B-grade video and audio. Handheld camera, blurry video, shotty quality. I always get so made at independant film releasers when their DVDs look so bad, but the covers look so sweet. The video was very blurry, as if someone deinterlaced it bad or did heck knows what to it. Anyways, that was only in some scenes so the rest played fine. But as I was going to say - this fact made me not want to watch it. I felt "Oh great, another shit movie..." but the runtime is ultimately what convinced me to give it a chance. You see, I always give movies a full chance. I always watch them to the end no matter how bad or rotten they may be. For this reason, I won't just pop in any old movie. I want something that might seem even a little redeeming. The runtime on this wasless then 90 minutes, so I thought why not. Good choice, bad choice? I don't know which to choose. I'll lean more toward good, but not fully there, y'know? It was an alright movie, but nothing to write home about. Not "Official Selection" worthy. But not a bad watch for a 1h 20m movie. The acting wasn't entirely bad. The main lead was actually pretty decent. Not Hollywood material, but passable and definately way above-average in the B-Class world. Her "fear and tear" scenes - which are often done horribly in most cases, independant or otherwise - were actually pretty damn good. Some of the best. Her crying was very well done, and seem almost real. I'll say it was better then Natalie Portman's in V for Vandetta - I thought she sniffed and used her throat more then she need to, there was no real sobbing. But then again, Natalie's was probably more realistic to the majority of people - so maybe you should disregard that comment. Natalie deserves Best Actress, the girl in this film doesn't... hehe. The gore was done well. There's wasn't entirely a lot, but when it was shown it looked pretty good. A nice dark, nearly black blood ala High tension is my favourite. The watery classic-style red just seems fake whether it looks like the blood we bleed or not. There was a scene when this was used, but I'm going to ignore it and stick with the scene of the boyfriend in the back of the truck. Positive thoughts, now. Alongside gore, I 100% honestly thought this movie had some really creepy scenes. I don't know why, but it's sort of tapping into my own fears. Y'know... the fear that someone is there, looking at you, around you, you just can't see it. That alone feeling where you make sure to check around every corner, in the closet, make sure to peer behind the shower certain apon entering the bathroom? Ok, honestly I do all those things when I'm all alone. Hehe. Go me! The ending, well... it wasn't exactly bad. I was expecting a nice big twist, but it seemed to fall on it's face. I could have done better without the final scene of her in the convience store. That ruined my whole little psycho-analytical ending interpretation. /// SPOILED MILK Like, I thought the ending sort of meant... the killer was actually the girl all along. Like, the girl didn't exist sort of like in identity. She was sort of created by the killer's mind in order to feel more like a victim so he didn't have to feel bad about killing. The girl's various deaths could have all been the killer's actual kills. She acted as a witness to his events, even though she was him. Y'know? Ok, I'm being confusing but technically so was this interpretation of the ending. It would have been good if that's what was intended but I have a feeling I just bullshitted this answer out and it really wouldn't work because it's filled with plot holes. But what'ev. I don't feel like I wasted my time, so... win? I guess? --- Oldboy tonight, and Vertigo tomorrow day. X-Men 3 and SUPAHMHEN tomorrow night. |
You know what? Im done with writing full-on movie reviews for everything I watch. It takes some of the enjoyment out of watching movies, cause I always have that little voice in the back of my head saying "be sure to put that in the review!". Bah, Im done. I'll still post some comments and probably a rating, but no more reviews for awhile. Not like anyone probably cares.
Now, with that off my chest I just wacted the 2 newest Masters of Horror DVDs, back-to-back. Sick Girl was really odd, but I did enjoy it in a way. Angela Bettis was just wierd, but Erin Brown/"Misty Mundae" did a pretty good job. Probably the wekest MoH episode Ive seen thusfar, but still pretty good. 7/10 As for Deer Woman, I loved it. It still cant beat out Cigarette Burns for the top spot, but otherwise this is my favourite episode yet. Well acted and flat out hilarious, inculding one of the best/funniest dream sequences (well, sort of a dream) that Ive ever seen. Alot of fun. 8.5/10 |
Ichi 1
This was weird because I was expecting more gore and less of a story when really the opposite is true. I thought the story in this one was more coherent than the first and the gore was tuned way down (althought I don't think it could have compared to the Ichi the Killer with the budget it seemed to be constrained by). I thought it was pretty decent, although like the original I think it needed less semen. |

i certainly dont think about it while watching the movie .. best just to post the overall impression you were left with. |

My fav episode of the entire MoH series was Cigarette Burns. Havent seen the Miike one yet though. Hopefully they ll release the box set of the entire series here soon after the UK release. |

I dont get Showtime, so Im only watching them as the DVDs are released. The ones Im looking forward to the most are Jenifer, Fair Haired Child, and Dance of the Dead (even though Im not a big fan of Hooper) |
Nightwatch
This movie started off bad for me, when I found that the original Russian language track had been deleted. Instead, they chose to dub it into English, and just give all the characters stupid imitation Russian accents. Dubbing is one of my pet peeves, and I was really shocked that the original language track was nowhere to be found. Very, very disappointing. I thought we had moved past this nonsense. As for the film itself, I thought it was very flashy, style over substance type stuff. Some of the effects shots were really cool, but the story wasn't really enough to keep my interest. Overall: 5/10 (0/10 for dub track.) |
Caught Superman Returns yesterday.

OldBoy;
Another great installment in the Vengeance trilogy from Chan-wook Park. And similiar to his prior film, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, you really don't know who you want to sympathize with in the end. It was a confusing film, more-so then Sympathy, so below I have included my analysis on what happened. Don't read it if you don't want to, and if you think something else then please share. This is just what I got out of it. // ANALYTICAL SPOILED MILK Woo-Jin had sex with his sister, Oh-Daesu witnessed this and started to spread a rumour. Thwe rumour was similiar to something like Lee Soo-ah was now pregnant with both a son and a nephew. She wasn't really, but Lee Soo-ah herself began to believe this so her stomach began to swell and her period stopped occuring. She had a "phantom pregnancy" - not a real one. She didn't commit suicide because she wanted to rumour to end - but rather because she really did beleive she was pregnant and felt the worry of her brother. She did it for him, more then anyone. Oh-Daesu was captured on his daughter's third birthday and held for 15 years. Woo-Jin started secretly raising Oh-Daesu's daughter as we are told in the film. He was held for 15 years so the ages would be appropriate. Both of them were hypnotized so they would meet and react accordingly, and eventually fall in love. The girl's name was Mido, and she was Oh-Daesu's daughter. Neither of them knew this... at the time. They had sex. So while it was technically a crime that Woo-Jin and his sister had a relationship, both of them were fine with it until Oh-Daesu started the rumour. And now Oh-Daesu is not innocent either since he had slept with his daughter, equally upsetting. Neither can be "innocent", yet you can feel sympathy for both of them. I believe what was in the box where Mido was located - which was never opened - was another pho album similiar to what Oh-Daesu had saw and the photos that revealed that Mido was indeed his daughter. The ending I felt to be a very significant part of the movie. People say it should have ended with Woo-Jin shooting himself in the head, because the following scenes were too "Feel-good". I could not disagree more. In the end he asks a hypnotist to clear the "monster" inside of him. She warns him it could go wrong. He says he is aware of that fact, and she continues. She splits his self into two - Oh-Daesu who does not know the secret, and the Monster, who keeps the secret. The secret that Mido was his daughter. The Monster is told to walk away, and in 70 steps he will die. We are shown him walking away, but not taking the full 70 steps. Oh-Daesu wakes up later, a distance from the table he was once sitting at with the hypnostist. A young girl runs up to him, crying. He smiles bleakly as they embrace. Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone. The girl asks if he was with anyone, and the camera pans down a sequence of footsteps to the table in the distance. I believe the Oh-Daesu we see now is actually the Monster. Based on the footsteps, his attitude, and the smile. This isn't a happy ending. // EXPIRATION DATE Throughout the beginning and middle, I was thinking to myself "I enjoyed Mr. Sympathy a whole lot more." But once it came time for the ending, and the reveal with a sequence of twists, that prior thought was ripped in half. I'd say the two films now lay on the same level - in two different sections. They are both similiar films, but also very different. I can't say which I enjoyed more, so I'll just say... both were superb. Nothing else needs to be mentioned. ///////////////////////////////// Fair-Haired Child was my favourite Masters of Horror episode in the series. I haven't seen Imprint yet though, and I believe as well it could be the best of the series and most likely is. |
Scars of Dracula (1970)
Not the most revered of the Hammer Dracula series, but I do like this installment. It is fast paced, and shows a cruel side to Dracula to a greater extent than many of the earlier films in the series. However, it does miss out on Peter Cushing, and the frequent appearances of bats are not all that convincing. |
The Devil's Rejects
Second time I have watched this in the last few weeks. Watched it at work (where lately I tend to watch a lot of the horror DVDs I see). I prefer it to House of 1000 Corpses. Otis has some great one-liners especially in the first half of the movie. |
The Exorcist.
Im not sure if it's because I had lowed expectations this time, or if it's because this is the first time I watched "the version you've never seen", but for whatever reason I liked this alot more than I used to. I still dont think it deserves it's reputation, but it is a very good film. 8/10 |

Seriously, guys. If you haven't had the pleasure of watching this, do yourself a favor. Most likely the only expectations you'll have come from me. I can't recommend it enough, and you can almost always find it in the Wal-Mart bargain bin for $5. |
