LaLa Land (2016)
10/10

"While navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future."

It's awesome.

It's a good mix of drama and musical (probably 70% not singing). Music style is mostly standard 1940's Musical with some modern jazz and contemporary... it's not rock or ultra-Broadway. Nice mix of some dancing as well; again standard 1940's Musical dancing, with some modern dashes, nothing extreme or excessive.

THE DEVIL COMPLEX 2016

Found footage of a crew going to a mysterious forest in Transylvania to investigate stories of missing people and ghost sightings. Not bad, slow moving though.

I've been wanting to see this film for a long time. I found it on Amazon Prime streaming.
I liked it alot. Tyler's crying and whining got a tad annoying but all in all a good movie.

BEYOND THE WOODS 2018

An Irish horror about friends who gather in a beautiful stone cottage for the weekend. They all notice a horrible stench which seems to be caused by a sudden sinkhole beyond the woods. It soon appears the sinkhole has released more then just a stench. I pretty much enjoyed this one.

French found footage but there is enough dialogue in English and subtitles. A research team hunt for the cause of animal mutilation occurring in the Swiss Alps. Some gruesome parts and stark bitter cold. Well done.

Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
7/10

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...ser_poster.jpg

Various folks are traveling on the Orient Express, traveling through Eastern Europe when there is a murder on the train! The train is delayed on the tracks by a snow slide, and a famous detective Hercule Poirot is tasked to solve the murder before the unpleasantness of foreign police arrive.

I was hoping the producers would twist, that is change, the final outcome of the story (as told in the Agatha Christie novel and the 1974 film), or simply write a new plot based on the book's setting and detective -- especially because the original film (and novel) were so widely seen and read -- because, if you already know the story, characters and who-done-it, it pretty much ruins the most alluring aspect of the film. But no, it's the same.

I don't read anywhere that the use of the title required the film producers render the story the same; so I don't why the story wasn't changed. I'm certain the setting (the Orient Express train) and the character of detective Poirot are the real pleasure and fascination.

As compared to the original film, the cinematography and visual effects are quite beautiful, and the shot movements (and editing) have a pleasant flow and pace. Although, I'm not sure the shots added much to character and plot exposition, casting innuendos, piquing suspicions, and building suspense. This film spends less time displaying detective Poirot interviewing the train riding suspects, but as the plot is unchanged, this is the best and most essential part of the story... and as a result, I thought the story, characters and the film overall were less engaging.

I Like ''The Strangers Prey at Night'' Horror Movie

Mike and his wife Cindy take their son and daughter on a road trip that becomes their worst nightmare. The family members soon find themselves in a desperate fight for survival when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park that's mysteriously deserted -- until three masked psychopaths show up to satisfy their thirst for blood.

Its a very interesting story to be sure. Im leaning towards an avalache set off mistakenly by military testing at the time. Some of the stranger findings on autopsy, i think were cause by scavenger animals.

Ya, thinking an avalanche was coming was the only thing that would get them to cut open the tent and get them all to run half-naked down to the trees. And the sound and shaking of military explosions (parachute mines) would trigger the panic. However I read there was no terrain evidence of an actual avalanche, which would have been fairly obvious, and rescuers got to the area pretty quick (according to Wiki). The most bizarre thing is the two crushed chests that somehow didn't display skin trauma. Nothing really explains that. It would take a long fall for that, but I don't read there was any area ridge they could fall off of. But with the skull fracture victim, it's still most likely these folks fell on hard on some rocks. And as you said the woman most likely got eaten by scavengers and the liquid stream took it's toll.

The crushed chests with no "soft tissue" trauma was stumping. They did find the tent crushed for the most part by snow, did that happen before or after they fled.

Yeah, that is bizarre (the chests), even a Yeti would cause soft tissue trauma. ::wink::

Oh, I see, if there was an avalanche that crushed them while they were in the tent, and then they cut it open and fled... maybe because they feared another avalanche was imminent. If that were the case the crushing of chests and skull fractures make sense. But then they would have had to drag the three or so peps, who were basically dead, down to the tree line. Would they drag them, but not even bother to put a coat and/or shoes on? Maybe.

On Wiki they have a pic of the tent exactly how they found it. It's collapsed, but it just looks like it had a little snow fall on it. I'm no avalanche expert, but depending on how big it was, it would likely have swept the tent down the hill, the way they rip trees out of the ground. Plus, one account reads the experts saw no terrain evidence of an avalanche, but who knows. ::confused::

Bloof 03-20-2018 02:51 AM

I havent totally ruled out a yeti. There was supposedly a clear picture of one on their roll of film. As for the tent..it was strange either way that they had to cut their way out. Was something on the other side or blocking the entrance? Was it aliens?

At first I thought you guys were talking about what happened to the group in the movie. And I swear I posted a review and in the movie they explained what happened to them. But reading more posts I see you are wondering what happened in real life.
