roshiq 05-21-2014 07:48 AM

By convincingly beating genre's greatest Haunted House ever made...The Hill House from The Haunting (1963) with a pretty impressive 10-7 scoreline...Ladies and Gentlemen, Here I present...

the WINNER OF HDC'S TOURNAMENT OF HORROR MOVIE SETTINGS

Universal's Frankenstein's Castle always maintained a remarkable presence in this tournament from the very beginning and then in the later rounds it continued its amazing run by commandingly defeating most of the daring horror movie settings of all time like Texas Farmhouse, House of Usher, Bates Motel & Mansion & Spaceship Nostromo and made its very much worthy place in the Final and at the end, successfully win the tournament. This result also beautifully reflects our ever lasting love for the Classics, our honest gratitude towards originality & the very base & root of our genre's more than 100 years old legacy in world literature & cinema. THANKS to the each & every team members behind making of those awesome Frankenstein Films for UNIVERSAL Studio back in those days that the fans around the world will treasure in their heart forever.

.................................................. .........

Very...very thanks to all HDC members & my dear friends for the wonderful support & participation in this tournament that I've arranged for the very first time. Without you, it won't possible for me to run it consistently for near about last 5 months. I'd like to acknowledge my sincere gratitude to our one of the most distinguished HDCians & dear friend...neverending for his numerous inputs of valuable suggestions about the possible & deserving entries for this tourney which he provided at the very early stage of this tournament; without those recommendations I'm sure I'd definitely going to missed several very much deserving horror movie settings to add in the final mix of matches for the 1st round.
As I've said before, I only dared to organized this tourney as our master organizer & another dear friend _____V_____ was taking a break from this tournament thing back at then & was busy with site moderation stuffs. Otherwise, I'd definitely shared the idea with him & tried to give him any support if he needed...cause HE's the one who inspired me to run such massive thing carefully, I just tried to follow his footsteps from his long list of earlier works. But, still by any means, if I've done something wrong please try to point out & lastly forgive me; as it was my very first effort. But I must admid I've been enjoyed every bit of it...from gathering the possible candidates, arranging the fixtures, waiting for the votes to declaring the winners. It was a great fun & exciting experience for me....while my wife was wondering "What a crazy horror movie fan I've been married & living with...!?!" ::big grin::

Great tourney, roshiq! When's the next one?

Great tournament---full of many close and nerve-wracking match ups that kept me up many nights. In the end monsters beat ghosts. Thank you, roshiq, for one of the best experiences of my life!

Well done, Rosh. Excellent effort.

Though I am not convinced about the end result (larger-than-life vintage set pieces beating out a living, breathing character) & there was a glaring omission (the Georgetown steps from The Exorcist), overall it was a wonderful tourney, plus one of the rare ones I actually get to vote in.

Now go spend some quality time with your wonderful little daughter. You deserve the break, and a cartonload of beers!

*APPLAUSE*

Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to put that tourney together, roshiq! Made me think a lot more about the sets and it's interaction with the film.

Glad you guys enjoyed it so much!

Agree with you about the Hill House as you may know The Haunting always keeps fighting with PSYCHO (1960) in my mind for the Top spot in my all time favorite horror movie list. ::smile::

In most cases, I tried to select the setting based on its importance in the movie, like whether it was the central premise of a movie or not. Or whether it played a significant role or some significant time of events/iconic moments did occurred at that place in a movie. I think that's why I might have missed couple of notable places including The Exorcist Spider-walk stairway & Georgetown steps. But still if anyone thought something other than I mentioned should have added from a movie, he or she still could have voted that related place (which I mentioned) with a note for the missed ones for that particular movie. Anyway, the thing is it'd better if discussed about the chosen entries in the board before starting the tourney but I was too excited & skipped that cause it might raised some close debates & took several days to finalize the final selection & begin the competition.

Humbug- there's no use in second guessing your decisions. You did a great job. You don't like the end result? Now you know 1/10th of the frustration I feel during every one of these damn tournaments.

lolz! Yeah..I knew anything can happen in a HDC tournament! From the very early stage I thought Overlook & Bates Motel would make through to the final & intended to make fixtures so that they could only get to face off with each other not before the final.::big grin::
