Now i'm seeing spirals and vortexes everywhere! 7/10

I loved everything about it except for the rather instant ending. What the hell was that all about??? No explainations at all, just credits rolling. BASTARD!!!!

After Dark Horrorfest-Rinne(Reincarnation)
I really enjoyed this quite spooky movie. The storyline creeps into your mind quite nicely, keeping you interested while the plot unfolds without quite giving up all its secrets until the very end. While not truly scary, the movie does have some quite unnerving sequences as you would expect to see from this Director.Overall Rinne is a subtle, clever and well made Chiller.8/10

Smackytherabbit 05-11-2007 03:16 PM

Azumi - I am not a huge fan of action-samurai-ninja-all-fight-scene-movies. That being said this is also the same reason i passed this movie up for so long, something i regret. The visuals and audio were simply amazing, the story was very good but thats not what kept you saying "HOLY CRAP I WANT TO BE A NINJA ASSASSIN" that would have to be the nonstop beautifully violent action scenes. The movie just kept getting better and better as it went on and i found myself texting my girl friend constantly through out the movie telling her how good it was (last time i did that was with OldBoy). In fact it was so good that as soon as the movie was done with i hopped on HKFlix.com and ordered Azumi 2.
highly recomended 9/10.

Smackytherabbit 05-11-2007 03:26 PM

Ghost -
I really dont get into these Asian ghost stories anymore. They are too repetitive and too common. While they can manage to be good on occasion most are a dime a dozen. And while i wish i could stop buying them, my girlfriend absolutely adores them and insists we buy them when we find them. With this movie i was pleasantly surprised though. It had good acting, decent story (even though it resembles many others before it ), great visuals and a twist ending worth $14.95

Basically the story is about a college student who lost her memory and slowly but surely her friends are dying one by one all around her by this mysterious ghost and they blame her for the ghost killing them. Once she finally gets around to putting the last piece of the puzzle together BAM!!!! one hell of a twist ending that adds more pieces to the puzzle. Definitely a buy for those who love these type of movies but still i highly recommend it to even those like me who are tired of these movies.
7/10 (i would have gave it a 3/10 had it not had what could be considered a second ending)

So we are walking through walmart the other day and like always the electronic section magnetically drew me to it. I start looking at the crap dvds and all the sudden, what do i see? Tartan Asian Extreme ? at walmart? Now i could have sworn that i didnt smoke any crack before i went to the store and i havent tripped acid since high shcool so i must have been really seeing this. I picked up Azumi and ghost, Holy shit its real! But why? when? When in the holy hell did walmart start carrying asian movies? And why am i disturbed by this as much as surprised?
I guess i was hoping the only asian dvds my local walmart would carry would be the american remakes of Ring and Grudge staring Sarah michelle geller in japan.

Ahh well. Change.

Blind Beast,very good.

jenna26 05-13-2007 11:16 PM

Lady Vengeance ~ overall, I would say a very strong film, some excellent individual scenes; but I liked Oldboy quite a bit better. I felt like there was something missing. But so much of it was just excellent. Still have Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance to catch, should be getting it sometime this week. :)

yeah it was good but i'm just very stingey with the 8/10s. it usually has to be pretty special to get one. this movie is very worth watching. i'll probably watch spider forest in the next couple of days. i'd be interested in comparing notes. a quick question, grudge v's a tale of two sisters?

What about all of those recommendations I would be ignoring.....shame....;) I fully intend to get to everything eventually....well, as much as possible, I am only one woman you know....lol.... But I admit, I'm lazy, I let other people do the detective work for me.

I'm too busy looking for older movies. Last Asian movie I watched was what... one of the Art of the Devil's? Maybe Ebola Syndrome...

I'm just semi-boycotting Asian films until I can find Ren she da zhan (Calamity of Snakes).

A Tale of Two Sisters-
I finally got around to watching this and i'm glad I did because it was magnificent. The delicate and intricate plot really was beautifully constructed, gently sweeping you along with the weaving storyline without letting you get a firm grasp on where you are heading. The gloomy interior of the Family household makes for a deeply eerie setting, and the subtle camera work really adds a sense of presence to the house. The score is expertly handled and placed to maximum effect, making you jump in some scenes while gently tugging at your senses in others. The performance of the actors was first rate,Su-Jeong Lim as the elder Sister and Jung-ah Yum as the Stepmother were outstanding while Kap-su Kim as the Father is worthy of recognition for a finely understated turn.Stunning.9.5/10

swiss tony 05-17-2007 04:59 PM

spot on summary there DP. i just finished azumi (8/10). it's as far away from a tale... as you can get but still very good. its action packed and easy on the eye. there are a lot worse ways to spend 128 mins

A Tale of Two Sisters is now my #1 Asian Movie,I loved it.

A Tale of Two Sisters is an excellent film, one of my favorites as well. :)

Watched Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance last night; and much better than expected actually. Still prefer Oldboy.....;) But overall, a wonderfully dark film, really illustrates how futile and destructive revenge really is, and it is surprisingly easy to relate to these characters and their motivations, even while being dismayed, even completely disgusted, by their actions. What a depressing movie.

Hmmmmm......I have yet to see an Asian movie with a truly happy ending.....but I am kind of new to them.......;) I don't mind happy endings, I don't mind not so happy endings. As long as the movie achieves what I believe it is trying to achieve, which I think this one did, and it engages me, then I'm happy....:D
