He's only charging $5 per disc so it doesn't work out to bad. I should be able to get a bunch couriered to me for not too much. I've stumbled onto a bargin if I can get enough cash together.
just make sure he guarentees working condition on arrival.

otherwise dont bother.
It either means it's already breaking - or about to -
or he doesnt know how to pack properly. These are very delicate units !

and if they break they could cost around $300 to fix.

get the model number for me - i'll talk to an expert friend of mine and tell you how good the deal really is ..

Elvis_Christ 06-14-2005 05:52 AM

He's just selling the discs not the player. I'd probably only by within my town for a laserdisc player so I can check it out properly. I've got my eyes on a couple of players so I'll let you know the numbers to check if there worth it.

"The Undefeated" - Fun Wayne flick with a great score.

DraculaInDallas 06-14-2005 07:15 PM

Took 42ndStreetFreaks and Austin316426808's input and picked up "Dead Birds". Also picked up Howard Hughes' WW1 aviation epic "Hell's Angels"

there's a 2 disc set with lots more extras.

I got the 1 disc version, as I've already got the R2 special edition without the dts track, plus this Aniversary edition appears to be 6 minutes longer than the R2 one I already have.

is DTS that much more noticable - that much better than ac3 ?

on my dts system it is, sounds much more crisp and you feel immersed in the film... if you've got dts, try out the dts version of saving private ryan, the beach invasion audio track is awesome.

ShankS 06-15-2005 02:27 AM

here's some info... it all depends on your equipment setup aswell:

Quote:

DTS seems to provide a deeper and tighter low frequency presence
DTS allows the sound to breath - transparency
AC-3 seems to leave the impression that something is missing from the mix.
At lower bit-rates AC-3 starts to sound like MP3's encoded at 96kbps (artifacts)
DTS is more three dimensional. The sound actually moved forward from the individual speakers to sound more full. This fullness was most apparent with the music. Instead of simply coming from the speakers, the DTS filled the front soundstage not only side to side, but with more depth as well. Bass reproduction was also more defined in the DTS version, leaving the DD edition sounding muddy.

uhhh .. probably not a good time to know this but there are 2 releases ...

1) the anchor Bay - Fulci Collection release

2) a cheap public domain release that is often bundled with those 20 - 50 packs..

if you ended up with the cheap one you may be unsatisfied.

Thanks for the info, I figured at that price it probably wouldnt be the best version possible...but I rarely watch special featues, and most of the time I dont mind sacrificing quality for price, usually it's not THAT bad. And if it is terrible...Ill just sell it to Blockbuster, save up some cash, and get the Anchor Bay version:)

thats the kicker though..

once you factor the shipping in - it's sometimes as expensive as finding the good one used.

i dont buy on ebay anymore (except cheap lasers from a personal friend)

but when i did i always did research first ...
you're best bet is scouring used DVD places near where you live ..

i might be at a bit of an advantage because Toronto - being a large city - gets stuff like this in the used places a fair bit.

I NEVER buy used off the internet. I make sure everything I buy is new and sealed, especially cause I only buy fairly cheap movies [The most expensive thing Ive ever bought off eBay was Ed Wood for like $15, shipping inc.]. In fact, I rarely buy used at all, and on the rare occaision that I do, I look at the disc before buying, I aint gonna get ripped off...

The_Return 06-15-2005 12:36 PM

Speaking of ordering off eBay...I just got Satanic Rites of Dracula, which I ordered like a month ago:rolleyes:
