Atonement

This was nominated for best picture? Yes, the acting is solid, the costuming is great, the cinematography and camera are fantastic, the sets and art direction are epic and beautiful. but...

I don't buy it.
Not one beat.
NO ONE would behave as these characters do.
The devices that move the plot forward are ridiculous in the extreme.

Add to this the constant flashbacks that completely destroy all sense of flow and you get a poorly paced, poorly written adaptation of a novel about the misdeeds of a young girl written by an old man who clearly neither empathises with nor seems to even care for his characters. The story tries (and fails) to be clever.

Oh and the fucking title of the film is Atonement... which the young girl never once comes close to acheiving, but still proudly declares that she has.

4/10

i did like the obnoxious guy though.. (that got killed in the bathroom)

It would not have been hard at all to follow th eplot of doom 3 and would have been 5 times better. its not like the movie was riding on the stellar performances of its cast...

To (badly) quote Chronogirl:

I like this one.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull- 7.5/10

It was fun! It was very fun. I actually liked Shia Laboeuf's character in this one, which is a first. It had a bunch of throwbacks to the originals, and some of the scenes were laugh out loud funny. The action was very spectacular, in the style of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the goofy yet violent style. My only beef with this movie is the ending. It kinda kills it. Too sudden. There's a part near the end where things get a bit ridiculous, but it's still "ok." Definitely worth a trip to the theater. You won't be bored.

Cloverfield.
Much better than Blair Witch. This is what a reality horror film is about.
