Really enjoyed the FIRST one. This one was too Hollywood-ized.

Leatherface (2017)
B-
Proper horror flick but weak origin story.

Nightworld (2017)
F
Don't waste your time on this one.
Weak, typical movie about an old spooky building.

1922 (2017)
B-
Bit slow for my taste but decent movie with an excellent Thomas Jane.

Bunnyman Vengeance (2017)
E
Worst in the Bunnyman series. Mainly because of the crappy cgi gore.
Shame because the first two were kinda alright.

1922 (2017)

https://s26.postimg.org/wk0ntqrm1/1922.jpg

Based on Stephen King's novella of the same name, 1922 is like Stephen King's own version of Allen Poe's timeless THE TELL-TALE HEART story that set around here Wilfred James, a Nebraska farmer with a bitter wife named Arlette and a loyal son named Henry. This hardworking but not-too-successful farmer finds himself under increasing pressure from his wife when she clearly started to express her frustrations living in the country and wants to sell her all of the 100 acres of land that she got inheritably and move to the big city. Through their disagreements, when Arlette threatens to divorce him, taking the son with her, Wilfred plots to murder her and methodically persuades his son to become his partner in crime.
This is beautifully done, an effectively slow-burn horror-drama directed by Zak Hilditch and like the way Carla Gugino turned GERALD’S GAME into her own showcase of versatile acting talent, this time almost an unrecognizable Thomas Jane delivered one of his best performances in career, IMO. His deeply sincere & committed performance as an early 1920s manipulative, desperate farmer with a slowly rotten psyche...was not only an absolute treat but surely this year's one the best so far also.

Super Dark Times (2017)
A/B
Set in the 90's, in a Castle Rock-ish suburban town, 4 teens hang out and something happens that sets off other events.

That's all you need to know.

Creep 2 (2017)
7?
I find it hard to rate this one. It's great in ways but there's scene that imo ruins the whole movie.
Also, in a way this would've made a better part 1. But only without the ruining scene.

SPOILERS in white:

"In the beginning our main characters says "Ever since I turned 40..." When the real story starts, our main character says he's turning 40. This totally ruined the finale. I couldn't get it out of my mind. Without that scene I thought he might actually die."

Baskin (2015)

Had its moments, but not really my bag overall. Lots of filler - felt like you could easily skip the first 20min without missing much of anything - but once it got going there were some really horrific moments. Kind of devolves into "torture porn" by the end, which I typically find pretty dull.

Loved the atmosphere though. Nightmarish and surreal...real Lovecraft vibe going on. Great use of colour too. Aesthetically it felt like the middle ground between Fulci and Argento, which I was really into - I just wish there'd been a little more focus on plot.

When I read the storyline to this film I said WTF, I gotta see this! The writer/director is insane. ::love:: This isn't a fucked up sick gory film but it is uniquely strange. All the characters fit perfectly in the weirdness. Comedy is present, not my favorite genre but the fucking craziness helps with that.. No nudity, nor cursing but had some old school FX and some CGI. I really would like to know how the stomach cutting was done..the effect they used was odd but interesting...enough from me.. JUST check out the film. It's free on Amazon.

HOOK (1991). Really good sets, but horrendous script and acting quickly sink this - almost painful to watch. *
