Fringe

ive had all 5 seasons for years but the first time i watched it - i got turned off by the first episode.

i thought it was based on a weak gimmick and the characters weren't interesting ... but i've heard a lot of people say it gets pretty good so i'm having a second go at it.
made it 4 episodes in so far.

cheebacheeba 05-27-2020 09:35 PM

I think 4 episodes is enough to get a pretty good idea if the show is going to work for you or not...though these days where whole teams of writers get replaced and changed around you never really know if a show will "get better" by the standards that you personally judge something.

At least in the case of Fringe, I haven't heard many people say it "went to shit" towards the end or anything...so that's a plus...if of course, you can get through the show in the first place.
Been a lot of popular shows I've just not been able to get my head into.

Watched an episode of "The Goldbergs" last night, as I noticed it was on one of my streaming services. Meh. I've seen about 2 seasons prior and hold it in much regard to Raymond, The Middle, King of Queens, stuff like that.
Not a bad time killer.
I deliberately sought out the Freddy Krueger episode to see Robert Englund...wasn't bad..but I swear whoever did the makeup was at their first day on the job.

Wife's been watching some show about former high school friends who get work in the dominatrix scene. Netflix I think. Can't remember the name...but it was more entertaining and well made than I'd have expected.

I continued with "I am not Okay with this".

Wasn't actually aware it was based on a comic, but by episode 4 it's in full on comic plot mode. It's not quite "Unbreakable" but it is nice, and interesting to see a more grounded type story in the superpower world.

I mean it's not "quick, watch this now!" type stuff, but it's watchable.

Space Force (2020) (Netflix)

Watched the first ep. It was funnier than I was expecting. It's light subtle humor done well. Steve Carrell plays a general put in charge of the new Space Force branch of the US Military. Also includes John Malkovich and Lisa Kudrow, created by Steve Carrell and Greg Daniels.

It's in my top 5 of favorite TV shows

I continued my binge of The Up Series on BritBox

DeadbeatAtDawn 06-14-2020 10:00 AM

We have been binge watching an older show, Most Evil.

A forensic psychiatrist made a ranking list..1 thru 22, 22 being the worst human ever. He goes thru all the serial killers/murderers and ranks them and evaluates their lives from childhood and takes a look at their brain function. Interesting.

Watched 2 Seasons so far.

Dispatches from Elsewhere -

Well I made it to the third episode and gave up. It started to turn into more personal exploration of the characters more than the game. I just didn't feel like watching episode four. So I checked wiki and read the rest. I'm glad I stopped as I don't like the ending that much.

Been watching through Buffy again, first time since...the first time.

Season 2, about half way through now and this is around where they start dropping the smallvill-esque "freak of the week" format and getting into longer running arcs.
Bit of a mess this early in the series, but it's still enjoyable and Whedon does have a knack for writing entertaining dialogue.

Also rewatching Weeds.
Still in Agrestic at the moment so still "the part I like most"...I'll still see it through to the end though, because I remember sweet fuck all about it.

STILL don't know what became of the character "Alejandro"...just seems to have been written out without any information at all. Anyone remember enough to know what happened here?
Googled the fuck out of it...guy didn't get fired or anything...but zero info on what happened to him or the character.

Watching 24 again, now that it's on Netflix.

Fun to watch the scenes that Xander Berkeley and Sarah Clarke share. ::wink::

Vagrant Queen -

Cancelled Syfy TV show. Kind of a bad mix between Guardians of the Galaxy and Fifth Element. But there are some good creature designs in the show. I'll put up with the whole thing. It's only 10 episodes and unlike that other show that I stopped watching. This show at least attempts to be fun with the whole space thing.

Always wanted to watch that again...thoughts of the stupid ending in the sub series follow up just kill it for me...unless Jack returns, I'm out.

Vagrant Queen - Episode 8 - "No Clue"

I only have one episode left. But episode 8 is worth a watch by itself even if you don't watch the whole season. That's how good it is.

It was a surprise. The whole episode is a love of the movie Clue. Everything is in the episode. Lines, music, props, events, and more. It's crazy. Plus there is a horror movie reference for fans as well.

I liked it so much, I found an HD version online to keep.
