swiss tony 03-29-2007 03:20 PM

premonition. just finished it.

*********spoiler********

slightly unsettling in all. the end left me sad but happy. if you've seen it then you'll know what i mean. nice little supernatural tale 7/10

swiss tony 03-30-2007 05:01 PM

ichi the killer. holy shit thats a messed up movie, but brilliant. kakihara was one of the best bad guys for a long time. 9/10. watch it asap:) :) :)

slayer666 03-31-2007 06:01 AM

Shinobi.

Laughably bad Japanese rip off of X-Men that took itself too seriously. I can't recommend this one.

ong bak. good, cheesey martial arts movie with great stunts and a nice little comedy streak. reminded of that bruce lee movie that had a good sense of humour, the big boss i think.

swiss tony 04-04-2007 04:35 PM

ring 2. 7/10. one of the better sequals you'll find. i got the box set so i'm looking forward to completing viewing the set

swiss tony 04-06-2007 06:38 PM

imprint. 7/10. quirky short story with quality miikeian tortue scene

cactus 04-07-2007 08:00 PM

Infection - not the best I've seen, but I liked it ok. Nice amount of gore, quite a bit of tension.

The Scissor Man
....little bit slow but interesting. Previously the english title of this movie was The Man behind the Scissors.

"Dumplings" - was on E4 last night! Have been meaning to watch it for a while now and glad I have - found it a bit odd though  . Has anyone else seen the cut version on 3 Extremes? Not sure if it is worth getting that version - what are the other films like on the 3 Extremes?

Dumplings is the worst of the 3 extremes imho.

Audition-
I thought this was incredible,I found myself absorbed in this movie from the outset,i thought the pace of the movie was perfectly executed, the gently meloncholy meandering of the first third of the movie served to emphasise the truly disturbing finale to maximum effect.Takashi Miike skillfully infuses the entire movie with a forebodingley eerie atmosphere, understated in the early stages gradually becoming more tangible as the sense of sinister malevolence grows. The performances of Ryo Ishibashi and in particular Eihi Shiina were exceptional. 9/10.

Battle Royale

slayer666 04-11-2007 03:43 AM

Memento Mori.

I didn't really care for this one. It hardly seemed like a horror film until toward the very end. I also found several of the girls quite annoying, although the main characters did a decent job.

i agree, i thought that tale of two sisters was a brilliant movie, i know its not a horror but i bought a movie called cashern which was fantastic and i advise anyone to rent or buy it.i also like the ring and the grudge. has anyone seen the movie called curse of the cherry tree its made by asian tartan and i cant find it anywhere.in the stores where i live.

Dumplings

Thank goodness for + 1 on Sky! Was skimming the channels and came across a very atmospheric little gem of a film - Dumplings - but it was half way through so set the vid to go on the +1 - havent watched it yet but looking forward to settling in to absorb myself in it.

I find that most asian horror movies have an atmosphere, a clinging and uneasy *feel* about them - you just dont know how horrific it is going to get until it is in your face.

I'm certainly getting hooked :D

Let's see. The last one that I saw was A Tale of Two Sisters. Absolutely loved it. Very original.

swiss tony 04-23-2007 12:44 PM

ju on2. not great, 6/10. i pale shadow of the original.

heebiejeebies 04-23-2007 05:27 PM

Haven't posted in what seems like an eternity, so I've had time to watch several: Shutter, Pray, One Missed Call, One Missed Call 2, Bloody Reunion, Koma, and Ringu. I'm in the process of working my way through Rasen, Ringu 2, and Ringu 0. I also recently picked up Cinderella, Prayer Beads, The Sisters, and a movie I can neither spell nor pronounce. I can say that it starts with a B and seems to look like babushka or something like that. (I don't have the title right in front of me and am too lazy to look.:D)

swiss tony 04-27-2007 05:43 PM

Visitor Q ~ Wow man.....just wow....LOL...I have seen a bit of Miike's work and I find him a very intriguing director. But I knew next to nothing about this movie, and so I was taken by surprise. Definitely NOT for everybody, and I can't say that I find this movie very likeable. Its an interesting film to say the least, alternates between amusing and sickening (for me anyway). But I spent most of the movie just kind of confused as to what I was supposed to take from it.

DP McCoy 05-07-2007 09:26 AM

Uzumaki-
Umm yeah, this was strange,I think I liked it but i'm not quite sure.Bizarre story, quirky characters, odd scene transitions, subliminal suggestions(I think:confused: ) and some insane visuals create something quite unusual.
Now i'm seeing spirals and vortexes everywhere! 7/10

Probably nothing at all.

And yes, except for his yakuza flicks not 2 movies are the same from this directors hand. I guess that's both good and bad. :)
