Or conversely, we should have a place specifically designated for abusive "discussions." Wouldn't that be fun? I would go in there every once in a while. Okay, every damn day.

I have a fairly thick skin. I work with a bunch of unruly leathernecks on the railroad, which is a notoriously rowdy bunch of folks; given to heavy drinking, violence, and thievery... and that's just while on the clock.

the same zeal they show in their on the clock drinking, they also show when verbally berating each other. it's not out of sheer maliciousness (most of the time). it's actually usually a sign of comradery and even, ahem, affection.

but, when I get off of work and go home and "affectionately" call my wife a low-down, taint-sniffing, motherfucker, it isn't taken that way. at all.

so basically, like lots of folks have already said, I'm saying it's all relative, but personally I lean way over to the "More Tolerant" side of things. the "if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen" line of thought.

so here's my prespective. I really only read the first page and I hope I'm not being redundant, its just that this is an internet forum designed for people to share their thoughts and ideas about horror. Granted its expanded a bit and the topics can be a bit more broad but you know, hey , I'm rambling
Its just that, people come here to express their opinions, and after someone says that the crow 6 or someother travisty of a movie is their favorite they are going to get flammed. Some people actually get worked up about this as we've seen in many noobs, and others, aka members. Then on top of it all there is the snob factor, which creates these weak factions of dorky minions. Its a playground, only words hurt. And also I would guess that a few regular members really look to their role here and value people opions, and when its negative then maybe it hurts? I'm stoned
I guess what I'm getting at is that, this sort of thing, this silly 'lets work every one up' game is going to be hard to moderate and the lines are going to be shady. maybe there should always be a vote, and to keep that thread from going beserk the only thing a member need to say is yay or nay?
am I being silly?

How quickly should the bans begin flying though? I should have the right to express my opinion and call you an asshole just like you should have the right to call me one. I'm sure most people around here have a fairly thick skin, maybe we just need a Happy Fun Place where people can go in and post and any insult is a bannable offense. Though I'm not sure how many people would post in there...
I would say there is a clear distinction between, for example, "people like you who think this blah blah blah..." and "you're a prick/cunt/faggot now fuck off before I kill you".

Also, as has I think been mentioned earlier there is a bit of a difference between labelling someone an "arse/asshole", "bastard", even "motherfucker" and a "paedophile", "nigger" or even "cocksucker". The difference could be libel, racism and, well, defamation (since while fucking mothers is cool, suggesting you suck cocks is wholly unnacceptable).

Mostly, I think to be safe people should count to ten before typing and instead of resorting to dubious and aggressively directed profanity instead try and craft their posts to get the message across in a more civilised manner.

Just to add, I wasn't being serious about implicating no-nonsense banning.

I'm all for diversity, and a few noobs/hot-heads/troublemakers around the place will keep the forum alive, quite frankly.

Wow...This thread actually got BACK on topic, after a serious derailment...

That's almost scary:eek:

:D

Thanks for everything you guys...I really needed your perspective

Cheeba's Original Comments

Did you post Cheeba's original remarks which triggered the response from Phalanx and Deposable ?

I can't find them.

I guess this can be a subjective issue other than someone suggested that certain dirty words are ok but others are a violation.

Cheeba IS Phalanx....Deposable wasn't really responding to anything specific that Cheeba said 'in general'...Just the incident that happened right before Cheeba got banned...And the way that Cheeba chose to express his anger with the forum...As Cheeba said HIMSELF, that wasn't the best way to express himself, but we don't often think rationally when we are angry...

In any case...Once a person is banned, they can come back (as Cheeba did...with 'Phalanx' ), and they have a 'fresh start' from that point...Cheeba obviously felt that his chance to 'start again' was hindered by Deposable's comments based on past actions

What it all really boils down to is...Some people get along here, some people don't...If someone doesn't like you, and you screw up, there's a good chance that the person who doesn't like you will taunt you about it...
