Thanks for the info.
The version I watched had amateur subtitles. I was able to follow but I'm sure some details got lost in translation. |

This film is actually fast paced, with a modern Hollywood feel. It's just not monster fights but rather emergency response. I thought it was interesting and mildly exciting for swaths. But the last quarter and ending were really weird for me. I didn't see the point and purpose, and it became a bit tedious... ironically when the Godzilla thing starts up again, but for no meaningful effect except lighting effects. I'd give Shin more a 6/10. I enjoyed Godzilla (2014) more. |

My only complaint is that they really did again show too much (almost all the creatures) on those countless clips & trailers before the release that left little amount of surprise in terms of newly introduced M.U.T.Os for 'MonsterVerse'. Moreover, I think Peter Jackson's Skull Island was more diversifying & interesting in terms of wildlife creatures. KSI still falls bit short of exploring the mysteries & weirdness of the island, particularly they should have added a giant Insect Pit segment like PJ did in KING KONG (2005). Funny thing is at one point John C Reilly's character, Marlow was talking about a giant ant that sounds like a bird & lives in the tree(!!) but strangely they didn't show that thing! Hope they'll reveal it in the extended edition Blu-ray release. So, only if you're like to have some fun, monster-mayhem time then give it a watch but otherwise, for a serious or solid character driven great story, KSI may going to disappoint you little. I loved it may be because to some extent, I really did get more or less all what I was expecting from it or perhaps I was just excited to see our most beloved giant ape on screen after more than a decade. |

But I am looking forward to the Godzilla 2014 sequel. Too bad we'll have to wait until 2019. |
Raw -8/10
In the wake of a hazing ritual a vegetarian girl becomes attracted to first meat in general and later human meat. Without giving away any spoilers, it keeps you on the edge of your seat, hasd some pretty fucked up moments and a finale that delivers (although by that point it's not THAT surprising). Well recommended. |

I like both: in depth focus on creature and it's effects, and also character driven. I've seen films that do both. But of course most films are way to short on the former. |

The 9th Life of Louis Drax (2016)
https://s14.postimg.org/a42n0qmpd/9_TH.jpg The story begins on accident-prone Louis Drax's 9th birthday, when a lifetime of curious mishaps culminates in the boy's near-fatal fall from a cliff. Dr. Allan Pascal searches for the strange circumstances behind the young boy's accident and dark coincidences that have plagued his life. A beautifully moving & twisted fantasy-thriller made by Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills have Eys, Horns). Recommended. >>: A- A Patch Of Fog (2015) https://s2.postimg.org/4pq7gfuyx/FOG.jpg A Patch Of Fog refers to a book written by the main character, Sandy Duffy (Conleth Hill). The book has now reached its 25th anniversary, and Duffy has been riding the tails of its success ever since through television appearances, lecturing at the university and an upcoming interview with presenter Lucy, whom Sandy is currently sleeping with. He's also lost in himself; he's been unable to write a second book for the last 25 years and has grown bored with the constant praise of his work. In an effort to ease his boredom, Sandy has taken to minor cases of shoplifting, enjoying the thrill of being able to steal so easily, and as a result has turned into a mild kleptomaniac. His luck runs out when he's caught on camera by Robert (Stephen Graham), a security guard and lonely man. Robert lets Sandy off with the shoplifting in exchange for a drink at the pub. Sandy accepts, hoping to be done with Robert as soon as they're finished. Robert, though, has other plans, blackmails Sandy by holding onto the evidence of his shoplifting. And in exchange, all he wants...a friend. Pretty entertaining & a fun Irish thriller. >>: B+ |

For pure jump-scaring joys, Lights Out. It's one film I cannot stop recommending to one and all. Watch it after midnight, specially with all the lights out. (pun intended) |

Semi-decent Victorian gothic piece. Just don't expect great things from the names on the poster and you might actually end up enjoying it. * * ½ |
THE OTHERS (2001). Still holds up pretty well, although Nicole Kidman's character is here is SUCH a drag. ***1/2

The Devil's Candy (2015)
https://s3.postimg.org/emhb6cfoj/devils-candy-13.jpg To some extent, it was as satisfactory experience as IT FOLLOWS was! Both the film deals the unease or eerie scenarios of something bad or evil is coming your way or about to happen...in kinda similar fashion. The cast was perfect in their respective roles. Loved it. >>: A- Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016) https://s15.postimg.org/lpa6s7qy3/REFC.jpg Though it's slightly tolerable than earlier installment but glad it's over for a while till someone decides to reboot the series for the big screen or TV. >>: C Parasites (2016) https://s3.postimg.org/ohi9lh6qr/Parasites.jpg >>: C |

I thought the earliest sequels sucked, specially 2 & 3. Ever since Anderson returned for the final 3 sequels, the entertainment factor jumped up considerably. Although, I would have liked to have seen more of K-Mart & Jill Valentine. |
Phew, How do I start?
In the last 6 months I browsed all of the 872 pages here. First of all, let me give a big shout to Baron, DeadbeatAtDawn, hammerfan, Horcrux, roshiq, The Villain and others. With the help of you lot I found I big number of movies that I saw and liked, while a lot more are in pending, waiting for me to see. Also, with your help I managet to find the name of one movie I was searching for, The Hidden and managed to see it. Now, the reason I searched this forum, beside looking at the great movies you listed, it was that I was searching for a movie. I saw this movie almost 17 years ago on the german tv station PRO7. I have no idea if it was german, italian or from hollywood. I just remember fragments: It starts with a couple in train, they are alone in the compartiment, he pleasures her, then the train goes into a tunnel, all goes blank, when the light comes back in, he is dead on the front seat, while she is ~satisfied~ by someone with a dress with somekind of cleaver. The movie goes ahead and we see the same killer going into a familly house where he murderes a couple, while leaving their only daughter alive. Years pass, the girl is a woman now and the killings start again. The big twist is that the killer is actually the girl. This movie might be absolutly gash, horrible, you name it, but the question of how is called haunted me for the past many years. If you experts have no idea what the movie is called, I might really give up. ::danger:: All the best, Ringo PS: I almost had a hearattack when I saw the forum was down for weeks and I was just into 451 pages. ::big grin:: |
